Twelfth Bhava of Two Krishnamurthys

The late Sri Jiddu Krishnamurthy (popularly known as JK) and the present Sri U.G.Krishnamurthy (popularly known as UG) are considered as enlightened thinkers, creative minds and world teachers of the present times in psychological, philosophical and spiritual fields.

The discussion is mainly restricted to ” Divine Knowledge and Moksha (final emancipation) ” represented by the twelfth bhava.

JK’s HOROSCOPE

Jupiter, the preceptor of Devas and Gnanakaraka, is the 12th bhava lord aspecting the 12th bhava. The 12th bhava is also aspected by the 10th lord Karmadhipathi Mars (10th cusp being in Scorpio) in association with Jupiter directing the necessary energy into his spiritual pursuits. The 12th bhava is beyond the purview of Moon, Venus and Saturn as per the Bhava allocation.

In Navamsa, Mars is in the sign of Gnanakaraka Jupiter, associated with intellectual Mercury and aspected by philosophical Saturn, Jupiter is in the sign of and association with philosophical Saturn.

The foundation of the horoscope is quite strong since lord of the ascendant Saturn is exalted (his exaltation only conflicting his personality) and in the 9th bhava Atmakaraka Sun is also exalted, Saturn and Sun are well placed in Navamsa also.
These combinations are very likely to be the same for others also born nearly at the same time and will not really give the clue about the acquisition of Divine Knowledge culminating in Moksha. Hence it is required to dwelve deep into the analysis of the 12th bhava for confirmation of these aspects.

The 12th cusp falls into the sign of Jupiter and star Poorvashada of Venus , another preceptor (though preceptor of Demons, what if , preceptor only) and Yogakaraka for this horoscope.

If the Poorvashada of Venus comprising of 13 degrees 20 minutes in the sign of Sagittarius is again subdivided as per the Vimsottari Dasa cycle starting from the sub of Venus, we get first sub lord of Venus in the star of Venus ruling for 2 deg 13 min 20 secs in Sagittarius from 253 deg 20 min to 255 deg 33 min 20 secs (sub in Venus star is 13 deg 20 min multiplied by 20 divided by 120). The second sub lord Sun in the star of Venus rules for 40 minutes (13 deg 20 min multiplied by 6 and divided by 120) from 255 deg 33 min 20 sec to 256 deg 13 min 20 sec and so on till the last sub lord Ketu in the Venus star rules for 46 min 40 sec (13 deg 20 min multiplied by 7 and divided by 120) from 265 deg 53 min 20 sec to 266 deg 40 min. Thus the 12th cusp being 266 deg 7 min falls under the sway of sub lord Ketu, the Mokshakaraka or Kaivalyakaraka, responsible for final emancipation.

This is reinforced by the placement of Ketu (146 deg 29 min) in the star of Venus and sub of Ketu similar to the situation of the 12th bhava in the star of Venus and sub of Ketu. In addition, Ketu is in the sign of Sun, Atmakaraka and responsible for psychic development. Mercury responsible for psychological development and Rahu responsible for psychology, metaphysical aspects are in the sub of Ketu. Moon responsible for mind and psycho-physiological consciousness is again in the star of Ketu. Also Mars, Saturn and Jupiter are in the star of Rahu, a complement of Ketu

Thus, the planet Ketu, the Mokshakaraka is not only the sub lord of the 12th bhava but also is in his own sub and also influencing all other planets. Again , both the preceptors, Jupiter and Venus, are in the sign and star of the 12th bhava.

Hence all the energies of the native will be directed towards attainment of Divine Knowledge and teaching his experience to others and finally culminating to Moksha (enlightenment) .It is likely that the native might have got his enlightenment in the Dasa of Sun being exalted.

UG’s HOROSCOPE

Venus, the preceptor of Demons is the 12th lord deposited in the 12th bhava itself along with the 10th bhava lord Jupiter (as per Bhava allocation), the preceptor Devas and Ketu the Mokshakaraka and ofcourse Rahu responsible for psychology, metaphysics aspecting the 12th bhava.

In Navamsa, Venus is in the sign of intellectual Mercury, Jupiter is in the sign of Mars and Sun and Ketu is again in the sign of and association with lord of the ascendant Mercury.

The foundation of this horoscope is also very strong since the ascendant is Vargottama (same ascendant in Rashi and Navamsa charts), lord of ascendant Mercury, Atmakaraka Sun and Manahkaraka Moon are in lagna bhava (1st bhava), in Navamsa also Mercury, Sun and Moon are well placed.

This situation, even through the normal standard has got strong potentialities to give success in acquiring Divine Knowledge and Moksha.

But again it is required to be confirmed by further studying the 12th bhava with respect to its sub allocation.

The 12th bhava is situated in the sign of Venus, in the star of Mars and sub of philosophical Saturn. The Mokshakaraka Ketu is again strongly situated I the combination of sign of Venus, star of Mars and sub of Saturn. The Atmakaraka Sun, the metaphysical Rahu are also in the sub of Saturn. The lord of ascendant, intellectual Mercury is in the star of Saturn and Moon, the Manahkaraka is in the sub of Rahu, the complement of Ketu.

Thus the sub lord of the 12th bhava Saturn being himself a philosophical planet is directly connected to Ketu, the Kaivalyakaraka, being in the sub of Saturn and the other planets are also involve d with the 12th bhava, including the two main preceptors Jupiter and Venus.

It is likely that the native might have got his enlightenment in the Dasa of Venus being in his own sign and 12th bhava.

Nadi Astrology for Marriage

The following article was published in The Times of Astrology magazine New Delhi Jan 2002.

INTRODUCTION

I would like to present a case study of the results of the Nadi Astrology taken from different Nadi Astrologers in connection with the marriage of my son, comparing them with actual happened in accordance with the natal chart The Nadi Astrologers will read the results from the old palm leaves mostly Tamil and Sanskrit, after checking and matching several aspects of the individuals such as name, name of parents, brothers and sisters, others salient important events etc.

NATAL CHART

The details of the natal chart with Lahiris Ayanamsa and Ramans 110-year ephemeris is as follows;

NADI ASTROLOGY RESULTS

The following are the Nadi astrology results taken regarding the marriage aspect;

Shuka Nadi ; Taken on 11 Oct 1987

22 years 10 months 1`6th day destined to get the Rishi Vaya on this particular day on this aspect of Vivahakanda, Aslesha Star, Guru after entering Meena rasi, vivaha yoga starts, Mesha Lagna, 7th lord Venus indicate beautiful wife, Guru in Navamsa Rasi as per gochara between 25 Oct 87 to 30 Mar 88 marriage proposal will take place. Between 23rd birth day before 24th birth day marriage Lakshmi Sambhandhanama patni, she will be from a far away place but at the time of marriage the family will have moved into the same city. She will be from a good family, educated. For both of them the age difference will be a little more than two years. In the 5th house because of Mars, destined to have 2 sons and a daughter and all the children will come in the Venus dasa period.

Sjuka Nadi ; Taken on 20 mar 1988

In continuation of earlier reading taken on 11 Oct 1987, for Aslesha Nakshatra for Jataka, the coming 12 days is an opportune time for the right proposal to come and for marriage fixation. Before 120 days the marriage will take place. Thefname of the girl will be related to Lakshmi. She will have one brother and sister, The marriage fixation will come easily by pooja to remove doshas associated with Vivahakaraka and Vivhasthana and also the kendradhipatya dosha. The following mantara can be done for thought process correction or Sathbuddi Prabhadoana and the obstacles in the Adhi Daivike realm.

Sukra Nadi : Taken on 31 Dec 1989

Kamesh will marry a girl whose name is related to that Lakshmi such as Rama, Padma etc. Her father will be a high official in central Government name relating to Vishnu and mother Parvathi-Brides mother will have two pregnancies out of which bride will be the only daughter. She will be beautiful, white in complexion, having considerable height. He will marry in August 1990. One match will fail and the second one will succeed. The match will be from Hyderabad itself, perhaps from relatives.

Kowmara Nadi : Taken on 24 Jan 1990

Agastya is narrating Pratyek-Kanda, Sani Kumba; Buddha in Dhanus; Ravi in Vrischika, Rahu in Gemini; Chandra in Kataka; Kuja in Simha; Sukra in Thula ; Mesha lagna; Guru in lagna. Name Kanchi Eswara (Kameswar). Fathers name is after Lord of Seven Hills, mothers name is connected with Saraswathi. His marriage will take place around 27th year. The bride will have ancestral property. This will be a new alliance. The parents of the bride will live long. She will be educated. She will come from a town area. The match will come from South -Eastern direction. The girls co-borns will have independent living. She will be of fair complexion and named after a flower of Lakshmi.

Vasista Nadi: Taken on 1st Dec 1990

Till now the marriage has not taken place. Because of Poorvajanma papa and Navagraha dosha, marriage is getting delayed and some circumstances are going against him. To avoid the doshas some shanti is to be done. Now he is running 27th year. 27th year marriage on 28th February. Bride side people will come on their own seeking alliance for his marriage. Bride will have good status, good family background, bride is not her mothers first child, brides parents had left their previous place and settled in a second place, Bride is a graduate, good face, likes discipline and manners she is clever also. He will get a girl who will have similar graha doshas as he has got. The girl will have a mark or mole on the neck, name of the girl similar to Tirumala range the match will come from north or north- eastern direction. There will be open land next the brides house. The brides house may face north with street in front in the east -west. In his 29th year birth of a son, by 35thyear one son and one daughter will be born. His children will have good education. At 54th year his wife will be come sick. By 60th year his children will get settled. In his previous birth he misbehaved with the chastity of his sister-in-law and usurped all the properties of his brother, No belief in God, so in this janma he will have no brothers and sisters. He will be alone. So Parihara and Shanti is to be done. On Monday, pooja for Devas Amba, Muruga, Vinayaka, Siva, Silk clothes will have to be given to a couple, Seven types of fruits, milk, honey etc. to be given to the Nadi astrologer 21 Sumangalis are to be honoured, 21 times Pooja on Sunday to Ammavaru .No rebirth for this native.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Many marriage proposals had been coming from his 23rd year from 1987 but in his 25th year on girl named Vimala was almost fixed for marriage in April 1989, for marriage to be celebrated in Feb, 1990. But after lot of discussion and misunderstandings the match was dropped in September 1989 from the girls side. This girl is only 17 years old. Her fathers name is Srinivasa Rao and mothers name is Anasuya. Her father has retired from a private bank service. Even after that, lot of proposals have been coming but nothing was materializing. In December 1990 two more suitable matches have come one from Madras with only one and half years age difference and only 5ft 3in tall, fair, named Vasundhara, post – graduate with one younger sister and brother. The second match was from Visakhapatnam with four and half years age difference 5ft 6in tall, fair, named Venkata Sailaja graduate doing diploma in computers with knowledge of music, having one younger brother. Though the Madras people have brought the girl to Hyderabad , it is dropped due to the 6ft height of the boy. After lot of correspondence and due to curfew in Hyderabad, the girl from Visakhapatnm could be seen on 14 Jan 1991 only. After lot of discussions the match was settled and the marriage was celebrated in Visakhapatnam on 28 Feb 1991 at 0300 hrs.

COMPARISON WITH NADI RESULTS

Now comparing this girl with the Nadi results, the girls name was originaly given as Venkata Saila connected with Tirupati Shrine their family being devotees of Tirupat-Tirumala God and Goddess and subsequently the letter ja being added as per the advice of their priest to complete some syallable formulation. Thus we can take the name of the girl is almost coincided with what the Nadi results predicted. The girl is tall, fair, graduate, from good family, disciplined. Before her birth, her mother had two abortions and so in that sense she is not the eldest and she had three coborns. She has got a mole on the neck. The girls house in Visakhapatnam has an open land beside. Her father is a retired Superintending engineer from State Government. His name is VasantaRao the brides mothers name is Saraswati. The marriage did take place on 28th Feb 1991 in the 27 year of the boy. So, in general when all the Nadi results are studied though there are some contradictions and confusions, most of the important events of the Nadi predictions have come true such as the age of the marriage, date of marriage, name and features of the girl, coborns of the girl (that is the girl will not be the only daughter), father of the girl senior officer in government, dropping of the first match which was almost settled, the girls father originally belonged to Hyderabad but subsequently settled in Vishakapatnam etc.

NATAL CHART READING

From the normal Natal chart it would not be possible to predict such details about the marriage. May be from the natal chart, since Venus is in 7th aspected by Jupiter, we can say he can get a good looking wife with good wisdom and since Kalatrakara in 7th house we can expect some delay and obstacles in setting the marriage. Of-course we can definitely expect that the marriage will take place in main period before 3rd Dec.1993. We may expect that the period may be in Venus; Mercury-Venus from 27th June 1990 to 17th Dec.1990 though Mercury is not directly connected with the marriage aspect but because of strong Venus. With due consideration for the time is fairly correct expect for about 2 months difference in actual marriage timing. The acceptance of the match has taken place in 14 Jan 1991when Venus was transiting in 7th house in Capricorn from the Moon in his natal chart. The actual marriage has taken place when Venus has come to exaltation in Pisces after 18 Feb. 1991 as per Gochara.

CONCLUSION

Therefore it is concluded that though the natal chart is studied it is better to get the Nadi results also and then judiciously merge the predictions to get some valuable indications and to arrive at suitable decisions regarding settling marriages, if astrology is to be followed for the purpose of guidance. Otherwise of-course, it can be left with the saying Marriages are made in Heaven or Runanubhandha Rupena Pasu Patni Sutalay.

Tatwa/Antar Tatwa Siddhanta

 The following article is a free English translation from the book “Jyotisha Siddhantammu” published in 1970 written by my Guru DaivagnaRatna and Vidya Visarada Late Shri Divakaruni Venkata Subbarao in the South Indian ‘Telugu’ language. This article soon to appear in Sapta Rishi magazine.

 

Introduction 

The main difference in this article is the Savya/ Aroha (direct) and Apasavya/ Avaroha (reverse) rotation of the five tatwas and the consideration of the antartatwas in the tatwas to arrive at the birth time rectification up to 12 seconds, as against the previously published literature on this subject.

From a long time, it has been a big problem for the Jyotish Pundits (astrologers). It is known to almost everybody that without properly fixing up the birth time it is a futile exercise to go ahead to give future predictions as per the horoscope. As far as know, many crores of people were born and are being born in this world in every lagna (ascendant). The whole populations of the world are in the twelve lagnas only! In a particular day, in a particular lagna, in a particular city many people are born. For all of them there would not be any difference in the lagna and the planetary positions. There would not be any difference in the latitude; the longitude and the Sun rise in those cities. If there is no difference in the birth time, for those born in the same city and in the same lagna, their progress, longevity, luck, children and other different aspects should be the same. But as per the experience this order does not hold good. In this creation no two individuals would undergo the good and bad effects in the same fashion. The direct evidence of this fact can be visualized from studying their thumbprints. Is it not from this reason the thumb prints have attained the importance? Therefore it is known that it is not possible for any two individuals, male or female humans or of any other species, to be born at the same muhurtha (time ). It is understood that no two individuals can be born at the same time in one hospital or in different maternity homes in a city. In their birth times there should at least some difference of time of ‘liptas’. Presently the minimum time duration used is ‘seconds’. In the ancient times, as per the Indian system of time the least time count is called ‘viliptas’. The difference in this time frame may not be visible in the gross level but it is accountable in the mathematical calculations. Practically the fixation of the Sun rise is very important for the fixation of the birth time. The great Parasara sage told about the sixteen Vargas (divisional charts). In that, up to the Shashtyamsa the order of predictions are narrated. Therefore, is it not the duty to at least rectify the birth time up to the Shashtyamsa level? As against this, it is not acceptable as per Shastra to give predictions based on the Rasi and Navamsha charts only. One Navamsha means 3 degrees 20 minutes in arc, which amounts to 13 minutes 20 seconds in time. In spite of knowing that many people will be born in this time frame, to give predictions based on the Navamansha chart, the readers can understand that it amounts to ridiculing and misusing of the Shastra. The predictions given as per this order would not be experienced. In the sixteen Vargas, every Varga has got a particular Karakatwa (signification). For those Karakatwas, those Varga charts are to be examined, but all the twelve bhavas Karakatwas should not be interpreted on the basis of the Navamsha chart. In understanding the above views, it is important in the Jyotish Shastra to fix the birth time correctly. To fix the correct birth time, the ancient authors had shown different methods. In these generally followed principles of methods, it is experienced that they are not satisfactory. In these methods it is generally seen that at least 25 minutes difference is required between two births on one particular weekday and in a particular birth (Moon) star, which it is against the experience and therefore it is to be understood that these methods can be applied to some horoscopes only and not to all horoscopes. In the villages it may be natural to have birth time of 25 minutes for each birth, but in cities where lakhs of people live, the difference from birth to birth cannot 25 minutes. Therefore it is to be considered that these methods or rules are of gross level only.

Therefore it is imperative to delve deep into this rectification of birth time to the utmost possible interval of time for a particular birth with respect to the place of birth, sun rise, day of birth, birth (Moon) star and the lagna as per the male and female births. The tatwa Siddhantha would give the method of birth time rectification up to a time difference of 3 minutes and the antar tatwa Siddhantha would still go further up to a time difference of 12 seconds.

 

Tatwa Siddhantha

 In this creation, everything follows an order. At certain times human births take place. At some other times the animals, the birds, the trees etc. are created. In human births, the male and female births follow a certain order. Time is under the control of the five bhutas. As per the order of the bhutas, the names of the weeks are formed. Sun (Ravi) and Mars (Mangal) are Tejo tatwa planets. On Sunday and Tuesday (Mangal), certain period of time after Sunrise is under the control of Sun and Mars. Knowing this ancient Rishis named these weeks after Sun and Mars. Monday (Soma) follows the Jala tatwa planet of Soma (Moon). Wednesday (Budhavara) follows Prithvi tatwa planet Mercury (Buddha), Thursday (Guruvara) follows Akasha tatwa planet Jupiter (Guru), Friday (Sukravara) follows Jala tatwa planet Venus (Sukra), Saturday (Sanivara) follows Vayu tatwa planet Saturn (Sani). In the weeks, certain period of time from the Sunrise is under the control of the lords of these weekdays. The rest of the time is under the control of the lords of the prithvi, jala, agni, vayu and akash tatwas. The planets would not go in any other different order other than this order. As per the lords of the tatwas, the male and female births take place in the human births. Under the control of time of Moon, Venus, Saturn the female births take place and male births take place from the time control of Sun, Mars, Mercury and Jupiter. That means under the time of jala and vayu tatwas the female births and under the time of bhu, tejo and akash tatwas male births take place. There is a connection amongst the tatwa times, the star in which the Moon is posited, the characteristics of the birth sign, the lord of the birth week and the male and female divisions. Since these five divisions are connected to the five bhutas, Lord Brahma has created these births consisting of these five bhutas. The species cannot live without connection with five bhutas. As per this order in this vast time frame, human births take place at certain times only. This is as per the Sastra and accepted by those who have read the Sastras. Moon receives the life energy from Sun. Due to the effect of the Moon, this energy is converted into the birth of the species. For the time of the birth depending on the tatwa the male female order of the birth, the mental and physical characteristics are formed. In the five bhutas the first bhuta of Akash is the centre of electricity. In the human body the important part of the brain, which is the seat of nervous system, belongs to akhash tatwa. The second one the vayu (air) is important for the survival of the species. The third one of agni (fire) is required to improve the human cells meaning oxygen without which the agni or fire cannot be generated and the birth cells are important for life. The fourth one of jala is 80% of the human body. The jala is equivalent to the blood of the body and if this blood is solidified it is difficult to live. The fifth one of prithvi represents the body. However much the body is cleaned but still the earthy smell of the prithvi comes out.

 

Tatwas

The connection between the human body and the five tatwas has been shown. These tatwas follow their time division regularly in their lordship weekdays. The tatwas follow their time one after the other as Prithvi: 6minutes; jala: 12 minutes; Tejo: 18 minutes; vayu: 24 minutes; Akash: 30 minutes. That means, for every 90 minutes the first rotation of the tatwas in the above order of Prithvi, jala, Tejo, vayu and Akash would be completed and the second rotation would be started in reverse order. In this order there would be 16 rotations of the tatwas in 24 hours. In these rotations, the odd rotations would be in direct (savya) order and the even rotations would be in reverse (apasavya) order. That means, the first rotation of the tatwas would be in the direct order of Prithvi, jala, Tejo, vayu and Akash, the second rotation would be in the reverse order of Akash, Vayu,Tejo, jala and Prithvi, the third rotation would be in direct order, the fourth rotation would be in reverse order and so on till the 16 rotations are completed. These direct and reverse rotations of the tatwas is referred in the book  “Jataka Phala Chintamani” as follows:

The tatwas, their lords, weekdays and sex are as: Prithvi- Mercury-Wednesday-Male; Jala-Moon, Venus-Monday, Friday- Female; Tejo- Sun, Mars- Sunday, Tuesday- Male; Vayu- Saturn- Saturday- Female; Akash- Jupiter- Thursday- Male

The Prithvi tatwa would remain for 6 minutes after the Sunrise on Wednesday, the jala tatwa would remain for 12 minutes after sun rise on Monday and Friday, the Tejo tatwa would remain for 18 minutes on Sunday and Tuesday after Sun rise, the vayu tatwa would remain for 24 seconds minutes on Saturday after the Sun rise and the Akash tatwa would remain for 30 seconds minutes on Thursday after the Sun rise.

 

Nadi Grandhas

In the Nadi grandhas, each sign (rashi) is divided into 150 divisions giving a particular name for each Nadi amshas and each Nadi amsha is further divided into two parts as first and second part amounting a total of 300 divisions. If the lagna is taken as 2 hours duration, this amounts to 24 seconds in time frame. In some other Nadi literature, 600 divisions are made which equals to 12 seconds in times frame. The Nadi amshas are given starting from the beginning in the movable signs in direct order, from the end in the fixed signs in reverse order and from the centre of the dual signs in the direct order. Many details of life pattern of the persons born in each Nadi amsha are given. Even though presently the secrets of these Nadi grandhas are not known, since these grandhas are considered as authoritative it is almost certain that there is a human birth for every 12 seconds. This duration of minimum 12 seconds can be seen in the antartatwa of Prithvi in the main tatwa of Prithvi as given below.

 

Antar Tatwas

The complete rotation time frame for all the five tatwas for one cycle of direct and reverse order is 180 minutes (90 + 90). The duration of the Prithvi tatwa is 6 minutes. The duration of the Prithvi antartatwa in the Prithvi tatwa is calculated as 6 minutes multiplied by 6 minutes divided by 180 minutes, which amounts to 12 seconds. The duration of the jala antartatwa in the Prithvi tatwa would be 6 minutes multiplied by 12 minutes divided by 180 minutes, which amounts to 24 seconds. Similarly the other antartatwas of Tejo, vayu and Akash in the Prithvi tatwa can be found out. The antartatwas would also rotate direct and reverse in each tatwa.

Therefore from the above it can be seen that for every 12 seconds there is a possibility of male birth in the Prithvi antartatwa of the main Prithvi tatwa. Of course, the division of time may not be applicable to the modern times when there is birth rate is fast nowadays. However in the Shashtra there no other information better than this division of 12 seconds difference in the birth time. There are some rules to fix up the birth time from the conception time, but even in these rules there is no way to rectify the birth time better than 12 seconds difference.

 

Birth Time Rectification Table

 In the Birth time Rectification enclosed at the end of this article, the Sunrise is given as 0600 hrs (6 AM). The table starts from 0603 hrs to 0430 hrs. The time given as 0003 means it is after the midnight 3 minutes. The time given as 1203 means it is after the noon 3 minutes. The time given as 1303 means it is after the noon 1 hour 3 minutes. 2400 hrs means it is midnight. 0603 means it is in the morning 6 hours 3 minutes and 2145 means it is the night 9 hours 45 minutes.

The lagna signs are given as Movable signs, Fixed signs and Dual signs. They are as follows:

Movable signs- Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn; Fixed signs- Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius;
Dual signs- Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces

The Moon star (Birth star) lord, that is the lord of the star in which Moon is deposited, is given as Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Ketu and Venus.

Time In Rectification Table

Since the birth times are given in the Rectification table for Sunrise of 0600 hours, the birth time in the table is to be obtained for the actual given birth time as per the following rules:

1) If the Sunrise is before 0600 hours, the difference between the local Sunrise and 0600 hours is to be added to the actual given local birth time.

Example: Local Sun Rise: 0542hrs, Local birth time given: 1026hrs. Then the time which is to be seen in the Rectification table is 1026 + (0600 – 0542) = 1044 hrs.

2) If the Sunrise is before after 0600 hrs, the difference between the local Sunrise and 0600 hrs is to be deducted from the given local birth time.

Example: Sunrise 0618 hrs, Birth time 1356 hrs. Then the time which is to be seen in the Rectification table is 1356 – (0618 – 0600) = 1338 hrs.

3) If the birth is before the Sunrise, the Sunrise of the previous day is to be taken.

4) If the birth is in the early morning between 0432 hrs and 0603 hrs, 0900 hrs is to be deducted from the birth time. The birth obtained as such is to be considered as in the evening of the previous day.

Example: Birth time: 0504 hrs, Sunrise 0512 hrs. Then the calculation is as follows:
0504 +1200 = 1704; 1704-0900= 0804; 0804 + (0600 – 0512) = 0852 hrs in the evening of the previous day, that is, 2052 hrs.

Example: Birth time: 0454 hrs, Birth date: 12 /13 December 1926, Sunrise: 0614 hrs.
Then 0454 +1200= 1654; 1654 – 0900= 0754. Since the Sunrise on 12 December 1926 is 14 minutes after 0600 hrs, 0754-0014=0740 hrs in the evening of 12 December 1926.

5) The weekday is always to be considered from Sunrise of the given date to the Sunrise of the next date.

 

Rectification of Birth Time from the Rectification Table

Once the time to be seen in the Rectification table is obtained as stated above for the given local birth time, this time in the table is to be adjusted to match the birthday, lagna sign, Moon star lord for the given sex of the individual as male or female. From this adjusted time in the table, the birth time is to be recalculated backwards and this time would be the rectified birth time.

Example 1: Birth date 5 April 1932, Birth time in the early morning 2 hrs 7 minutes, that is, 0207 hrs on 6 April 1932, Female birth, Tuesday, Moon star Revati (Mercury), Capricorn lagna
(moveable sign), Sunrise 0556. Then the time to be seen in the Rectification table is 0207+ (0600- -0556) = 0211 hrs. In the S.No.43 of the Rectification table, for 0209 for Mercury star, moveable sign, for Tuesday, it is given as male birth in Akash tatwa. But the given birth is female. In the table, female birth is given for Mercury star and moveable lagna in S.No.34 at 0142 and again in S.No.52 at 0236. These two times differ from the given birth time by 29 minutes and 25 minutes. Therefore, it should not be so far away. Since the birth time is given as born in hospital, there can be only a small difference in time. When it is visualized that there cannot be much difference, then in such doubtful cases Antar tatwas are to be considered to rectify the given time. In this horoscope, as per the Rectification table, Akash tatwa is from 0151 to 0220.That means30 minutes. Since the tatwas are rotating in reverse (avaroha) fashion for every 90 minutes, after the direct(aroha) 90 + reverse(avaroha) 90= 180 minutes , the tatwas would again rotate in the direct fashion. Akash tatwa would measure 30 minutes. If the Antartatwas are considered in this, there will be 15 minutes of direct (aroha) motion. That means the aroha will be up to 0150+ 15= 0205. In the aroha there will be antar tatwas of Akash, Prithvi, Jala, Tejo and Vayu. Since the last tatwa is Vayu, in the avaroha starting with Vayu it will end with Tejo, Jala, Prithvi and Akash. It is given as 24 minutes for Vayu tatwa duration. For 180 minutes, the Akash tatwa is 30 minutes and 24 minutes of vayu tatwa, the Antar tatwa of Vayu in Akash would be 30 divided by 180 and multiplied by 24 which amounts to 4 minutes. That means in the avaroha there will be vayu tatwa from 0206 to 0209. This is Female birth. In the Rectification table, the time seen is 0211 hrs. The limit of female birth as seen above is up to 0209 hrs. That means there is a difference of 2 minutes. Birth time is given as 0207 hrs. Then 0207 minus 2 minutes would be 0205, which is to be considered as the rectified birth time. This is the local birth time. In this horoscope, the difference between the local time and the standard time is 7 minutes 12 seconds. This difference is to be added to the local rectified birth time to get the rectified standard time. Then the rectified standard time would be 02hrs 05 minutes + 07 minutes 12 seconds= 02 hrs 12 minutes 12 seconds.

Example 2: Birth time 1246, Sunrise 0551, Punarvasu star (Jupiter), Leo lagna (Fixed), Thursday, Male birth. The table time is 1246+ (0600-0551) = 1255. As per S.No.48 in the table, on Thursday in fixed lagna on Jupiter star in jala tatwa there is female birth. But the male birth is given. Now the antar tatwas are to be examined. Jala tatwa is for 12 minutes. In this aroha is 6 minutes and avaroha is 6 minutes. As per table, jala tatwa starts from 1245, the aroha ends at 125012:51. From there the avaroha starts. While the aroha ends with Prithvi tatwa, the avaroha starts with Prithvi tatwa. That means, starting from 1250 with Prithvi tatwa for 4 minutes there will be Prithvi, jala, Akash and vayu tatwas accordingly. There will Tejo tatwa from 1254 to 1255 for 2 minutes time. Since the table time is 1255, male birth takes place in Tejo tatwa. Since there is no correction for this table time, the given local birth time of 1246 can be taken as correct.

Example 3: Birth time Indian standard time (IST) 04:38:12 hrs in the morning on 10 Oct 1926, Moon star Anuradha, Virgo lagna, Sunday, Male birth. Sunrise 05:54.The difference between IST and local time is 7 minutes 12 seconds. So local time is 04:38:12 – 00:07:12= 04:31:00. Dual lagna, Moon star lord is Saturn. The time to be seen in the Rectification table is 04:31 + (06:00-05:54) = 04:37. This should be seen as 0437+1200=1637, 1637-0900=0737 in the evening of Sunday. As seen in S.No.2 in the table, for the stars of Saturn of Pushyami, Anuradha and Uttarabhadra, for the dual lagna, for Sunday, for Tejo tatwa and for male birth, the timings given are 0736, 0737, and 0738, out which the timing of 0737 corresponds to Anuradha star. Since there is no difference in the time there is no necessity of time correction and the birth time given as 04:38 can be fixed.

Example 4: Birth date 4 April 1957, Thursday, Krittika star (Sun), Gemini lagna (dual sign), IST 11:46:16, Female birth. Sunrise 0556.The difference between IST and local time is 8min 16secs. Therefore the local time is 11:46:16- 00:08:16= 11:38. The time in the table is 1138 + (0600-0556) = 1142. In the S.No.24 in the table, in the Sun stars of Krittika, Uttara and Uttarashiada, in vayu tatwa, female birth is given at 1142, 1143 and 1144 in which 1142 corresponds to Krittika star. So there is no rectification of the given birth time.

Example 5: Birth 1 March 1956, Thursday, Swati star,( Rahu), Virgo lagna (Dual sign) , IST 7:57:16 PM. Sunrise 06:19:46. The difference between the IST and local time is 8 min 16 secs. So the local time is 7:57:16- 0:8:16= 7:49 PM, that is 19:49 hrs. The table time is 1949-(06:19:46- 06:00:00) = 19:29:14 hrs which can be taken as 1930 in the table. In the S.No.90 of the table, on Thursday, in dual lagna, for Rahu stars of Arudra, Swati and Satabhisha, for vayu tatwa, for female birth, the timings given are 1930, 1931 and 1932 in order. So the time is taken as 1931 for Swati star, which is 1 minute more. Therefore the local time is 1949 + I minute= 1950 and the IST would be 1950+8 min 16 secs = 19:58:16 hrs i.e. 7:58:16 PM.

 

Characteristics of Tatwas

The general characteristics of the people born in various tatwas are as follows:

Prithvi Tatwa: The lord of this tatwa, Mercury (Buddha) is intellectual. Science, philosophy, mathematics, business, saved amounts are represented. The characteristics of this tatwa has got very good connection with Saturn characteristics. Those born in this tatwa would have self- confidence, patience, imagination, future planning and interest in material prospects. They will have practical tendencies such as giving loans, accumulate money and gain from mines etc

Jala Tatwa: The lords of this tatwa are Moon and Venus. Imagination, good thinking power, enjoying life, expertise in fine arts, research in scientific fields particularly connected with research in medical fields are represented. Those born in this tatwa, though having the above quoted qualities, would get tired sometimes and want to take rest and idleness is one quality. Generally active, experts in different fields, can adapt to any situation and behave, will have self-respect and compassion, will have low profile, will build castles in air being lazy, can become very active when doing practical things, will perform the jobs with determination, though not having natural strength will see that jobs are done. When Moon is strong they become political experts.

Tejo Tatwa: Sun and Mars are the lords. The general characteristics are enthusiasm, good physique, force, oratory powers and passion. Those born in this tatwa will courageous and adventurous. Can occupy high positions with self-effort. Very ambitious, wise, believable, can perform duties with determination and with self-mind, advocates, politicians, experts in mathematics, engineers, adepts in surgery, military employees, best sportsmen, sometimes behaves cruel.

Vayu Tatwa: Lord Saturn. The characteristics are best thinking, meditation, self-enquiry, solitary residence, steadiness, patience and hard work. Those born in this tatwa are practical, experts in philosophical studies, panderers on God, enthusiastic, cunning and imaginative. Though they speak harshly, they are not cruel. They will not tolerate untruth and ingratitude. They can grasp anything very quickly. Unsteady persons, political leaders, philosophers, researchers, geologists, ascetics etc are born in this tatwa.

Akash Tatwa: Jupiter is the lord. For those born in Akasha tatwa, the natural characteristics are joy, delight, happiness, pleasure, satisfaction, gratification, faith in good periods, liberality, generosity, augmentation, growth, addition, improvement, progress, success, prosperity, fullness, consciousness of possession of means or strength, absence of anxiety, fear or apprehension, power of attracting, drawing towards one’s self, drawing away from attraction and fascination, they will have changes in their mental and physical temperaments. In favorable circumstances, they will be torchbearers for high ideals with great qualities, enthusiasm, energy, generosity and independence. In unfavorable circumstances, they can have depressions, dissipating energy. They will have natural confidence, reliance, and mental and physical strength. They will be interested in education in philosophy, finance, law and writings. They will have fame and name. Poets, lawyers, yogis, persons with divine strength, persons who talk decisively, generous persons, persons who do not know secret dealings, friendly persons are getting born in this tatwa.

 

Conclusion

I have been using this method of rectification of birth time. I cannot clarify any doubts in this context, since my Guru is no more available. Of course, in my opinion, the past events of the individual should also be checked with respect to the horoscope along with this method and the birth time is to be rectified judiciously. It is up to the readers to use this method intelligently and satisfy themselves. I have further researched in the matter and revised the Birth Time Rectification Table. 5. The original name of Swami Jnanananda is Lakshmi Narasimha Raju. Father is Bhupatiraju Rama Raju, Mother is Seethayamma. Sri Swamiji is the first born with one own sister and step-2 brothers and sisters.

Since in the 2nd bhava is Rahu,2nd lord Saturn is in 11th with aspect of retrograde Mars,9th lord Sun,8th lord Moon.7th 10 lord Mercury and 2nd bhava karaka Jupiter is in 9th,though there will not be big aspirations for wealth, there will always be help for getting money through some source when needed.

3rd Bhava

12.Since the 3rd bhava has got Jupiter aspect, the 3rd lord Saturn is in 11th with aspect of brothers and sisters karaka Mars, there will be brothers and sisters.

4th Bhava

13. Since 4th lord Jupiter is in the star of 6t lord, he will born to the first wife of his father. 14.Since the mother’s significator Moon in debilitated and aspected by retrograde Mars,the mother’s health will not be satisfactory. There can be severe illness. Since Jupiter is in 9th with Mars aspect,9th lord sun is in 12th with 8th lord Moon with Saturn and with 10th lord Mercury, though there may not be natural prosperity, there will be progress with self-effort. 21.Since there is retrograde Mars is in 7th to Sun, significator of father, and from Sun the 7th lord is Venus also being 12th lord in 2nd house in Dual sign, the father will have more than one marriage. Since next to Sun due to Mercury, the father will be knowledgeable, due Venus wealthy, due to Moon travelling, due to Rahu difficulties, due to aspect of mars energetic, and due to Jupiter in 9th from Sun educated and wise.

10th Bhava

A School of Nadi Jyotish

25. As per one school of nadi jyotish , Jupiter is Jeeva Karaka,Saturn is Karma karaka. Due to these planets position ,association with other planets and transits, the subject matter of events are to looked into. The difficulties, troubles and hardships are to be seen from the transits of Rahu and Ketu. By taking the order of position of planets in northren direction and the order of the planetary aspects on southern direction, it would come as Saturn +Sun + Mercury + Ketu + Moon + Mars. That means, Karma karaka Saturn would move over these planets. So the effect of those planets as per their karakatwas (signfications) will be there on karma. The effect of Venus and Rahu in the neighbourhood rashis will also be there in karma. 26. Let us see the planets dasas (periods as per Vimsottari dasa system.At birth, the balance of Mercury dasa is 4 years 5 months 18 days. Since Mercury is the 7th lord from 4th bhava with Neecha 9debilitated) Moon and 8th and11th lord from Moon and since Ketu mahadasa(main period) almost started, the native’s mother expired in his 4th year.

Ketu and Venus Dasas

Venus main period prevailed from 24 May 1908 to 24 May 1928.In this period, marriage in 1915/16,leaving home on 14 December 1917 for almost 10 years from 1917 to 1927,asceticism,Sanyasa sadhana, satwik food, serious inclination over Brahmam, mental agitations, Tapas(deep and absorbing religious meditations attended with austerity, penance and self mortification)nakedness, poorna samadhi (collecting andcomposing of mind, fixing the thoughts, intentness, attentiveness, intent contemplation, profound andabstract meditation, pefect absorption of thought into the one object of meditation) in Himalayas had occurred. Since Venus is in lagna with aspects of Jupiter and Mars and due to the planets position in the 12th bhava and Ketu in northern direction, though all necessary material arrangements were being done, the research in the spiritual fields happened.

Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu Dasas

28. The Sun main period was upto 24 May 1934,Moon upto 24 May 1944 and mars upto 24 May 1951.In these periods, due to the 12th bhava effect, there were foreign travels and residence abroad for nearly 20 years. Since 9th lord is in 12th,higher education and writings happened and the Doctorate degrees were achieved in foreign countries. Rahu main period occurred from 24 May 1951 to 24 May 1969.Since Rahu is 10th lord (Virgo lord),mainly acquisition of a job in India happened and Since Rahu is in Jupiter house,the job was in a research department. On 5 Dec 1947,he came back to India, and worked as Assistant director in national Physical laboratory, New Delhi in 1948 and as Professor in the Nuclear Physics Department of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam in 1965.He published many writings on Purna yogas, nuclear physics ,poetry etc.

Jupiter Dasa

29. At last on 21 September 1969 in the beginning of Jupiter Maha dasa in 73 years age, he united with Brahmam Though Jupiter is lagna lord because of Ubhaya Kendradhipathi Dosha ( evil due to two dual houses lordship) and connection with 6th and 11th lord Venus and 5th and12 the lord Mars and due to transit of Ketu over Jupiter, Swamiji’s life ended.

Conclusion

30. Many other aspects of the horoscope can be detailed in Sukshma paddathi (subtler way) by going through Dasa , Bhuktis and Antardasas, Shodasa Vargas, Ashtakavarga, Shadbalas, Bhava Balas etc. Under the present discussion, even in Sthula (gross) analysis itself, most details of the life events of Sri Swamiji are confirmed. Due to the problem of space, more details could not be discussed and interested readers can do further analysis from their own experience.

No planet is basically benefic or malefic. It all depends on the situation in which a planet is placed in a horoscope in different rasis (signs) and bhavas (houses) with respect to a particular ascendant ( lagna) at a particular time of birth. subjected to various cross influences with respect to the placement of other planets. For example, the benefic or malefic tendency of a planet may differ as per its placement in exaltation/ debilitation rasi , own rasi/ star, friendly/enemy rasi/star, different bhavas as per its own lordship and as per its associations and aspects by other friendly/enemy planets etc. Each of these placements, aspects, associations are not of equal importance and they are to be considered giving different weightages for each type of influence. The following are some of the various types of benefic situations and influences that the planets are subjected to in a horoscope:

Navamsapada Lords and Predictions

The following article was published in the Annual Issue January 2001 of the magazine “The Times of Astrology”, New Delhi, India.

 

Introduction

At the outset I would like to confess that this is neither my original work not I have done any further research on this topic. But my quest to find who will be the lords of each pada (quarter) of the 27 Nakshtras and what will be the results thereof stumbled into reading books titled “Navamsa Phalams’ and ” Graha Balam” by Shri Late B.N.Krishnamurthy of Guntur city of Andhra Pradesh , published in South Indian language of Telugu in 1978 and 1980, are out of print now. Shri Krishnamurthy did lot of research after reading Varahamihira’s Surya Hora and Chandra Hora in ” Brihat Jataka” and formulated a system for this understanding. From this system many details can be predicted not only for the horoscope of the native but also about all his /her relatives. I propose to give a crux of this research in this paper so that the esteemed readers of the well-known magazine can ponder further on this matter.

Cosmic Hierarchy

Generally it is understood that the is concerned with the nine planets. But the root for this creation are the main nine deities who are the Trimurthis (three trinities),their three wives and their three sons. The other levels in the hierarchy would execute their orders. They are the rulers called Ashta Dikpalakas (eight rulers of the eight directions), the subrulers called nava grahas (nine planets) and the leader of these rulers is Maha Ganapati (the elephant god).The total of these is 27 which is formulated as Nakshatras (constellations) and these 27 nakshatras are divided amongst the twelve rasis (signs). The benefic or malefic results for the mankind would be to full extent by the main nine deities, to half e tgent by the rulers and to one-fourth extent by the subrulers. These rulers and subrulers are divided into two groups belonging to the Vishnu varga family and Siva varga family of the Trimurthis. The planet Buddha (mercury) is related to the Brahma family . their roles regarding the directions, duties and castes are classified.

First Nakshtramala and Rasis

Eash planet id allotted three nakshtras. The first nine nakshatras from Ashwini to Ashlesha belong to the first mala (set) and they belong to the root deities and Devaloka containing full strength to give benefic and malefic results or longevity in the Dasa of the planets. Each nakshatra has been divided into four padas (quarters). These are called Paramocha nakshatras. The dasa years of Ravi is 6 and with the 12 padas of the 3 nakshatras allotted to it would give 6 multiplied by 12 = 72 years of longevity in this first mala. Similarly Kuja or Ketu and Chandra would give 84 and 120 years of longevity. But for the planets Guru, Buddha, Rahu, Sani and Sukra , the 4 padas of the one naskatra only is taken. The dasa yeas of Guru is 16 aad with 4 padas, the longevity would be 16 multiplied by 4= 64 years. Similarly the Budha, Rahu, Sani and Sukra would give 68,72,76 and 80 years respectively in this first mala.

These first nine nakshatras of this Paramocha nakshatra mala are allotted to the first four rasis of Mesha (Aries), Vrishabha(Taurus), Midhuna(Gemini), and Kartaka(Cancer. These four rasis are called Paramocha rasis and they are Devaloka rasis.

Second Nakshtramala And Rasis

The second nakshatramala from Makha to Jyeshta belong to the rulers Ashta Dikpalakas and Pitruloka or Swargaloka. This nakshatra mala is called Ucha nakshatra mala. The benefic or malefic results and the longevity during the dasa of theplanets would be 75% in this mala. The rasis allotted to this mala are Simha (Leo), Kanya(Virgo), Tula(Libra) and Vrichika(Scorpio). These rasis are called Ucha rasis and Swargaloka rasis.

Third Nakshatramala And Rasis

The third nakshatra mala is from Mula to Revati belong to subrulers of grahas (planets) and Graha mandalas. The benefic and malefic results aznd the longevity for the dasas of the planets to these nakshatra mala would be 25% in this mala. This mala is called Neecha Nakshatramala. The rasis allotted arte Dhanus (Sagittarius), Makara(Capricorn), Kunbha(Aquarius) and Meena (Pisces). These rasis are called Neecha rasis and Graha mandala rasis.

Nakshatra Padas

Eash nakshatra has got 4 padas and each of these padas are again termed as Paramocha pada, Ucha pada, Neecha pada and Paramanecha pada.

The nakshatramalas and grahas are divided as follows:

Nakshatra Padadhipatis (Lords Of Nakshatra Padas)

Each nakshatra has got 4 padas and eash rasi has got 9 padas. Each pada has got a planet as lord. For example, the Mesha rasi hads got 4 padas of Aswini nakshatra, 4 padas of Bharani and 1 pada of Krittika. The lord of the first pada of Aswini is Ketu, of the second pada is Ravi, of the third pada is Kuja nad of the fourth pada is Guru. These planets belong to the Vishnu varga family. The lord of the 1st pada of Bharani is Sukra, of 2nd pada is Chandra, of 3rd pada is rahu and of 4th pada is Sani and these planets belong to the Siva varga family. Brahma Varga Family, Budha Graha, Budha Nakshatras

Earlier the Vishnu varga and Siva varga families are mentioned. For Brahma varga family Budha graha is allotted. The nakshatras Ashlesha, Jyeshta and Revati are allotted to Budha. For these three nakshatras, there are 12 padas. The first 6 padas relate to Vishnu varga family and the next 6 padas to Siva varga family. The first pada of Ashlesh is in Guard amsa Paramaneecha, 2nd pada is Rajamsa of Brahma Paramocha, 3rd pada is Commander amsa Neechams of Narada (son of Brahma), 4th pada is Minister amsa Neechamsa of Sarada (Goddess Saraswati wife of Brahma). The first pada of Jyeshta is Paramocha Brahmamsa, 2nd pada is neechamsa Narada amsa, 3rd pada is in Siva varga family uchamsa of Sarada amsa, 4th pada is in Paramocha Brahmamsa. The 1st pada of the third nakshatra Revati of Budha is in Siva varga family Paramaneecha Guard amsa, 2nd pada is in neechamsa of Narada amsa, 3rd pada is Uchamsa of Sarada, 4th pada is Paramaochamsa of Brahma.

Navamsa Graph Preperation

After getting the birth charts and Dasa of planets as per the birth details, the navamsa pada lord of the lagna (ascendant) is found out from the table earlier given., From this it is ascertained in which varga or vamsa ( Surya or Chandra) the birth has taken place. Here afterwards this planet is considered as the lagnadhipati (lord of lagna). Similarly the other nakshatrapada lords of all other planets of the charet are found out. The navamsa graph is prepared as follows. The lagna varga Kendra to which the lagna navamsapada lord belongs is prepared on the left side with the concerned planets and the other varga kendras are prepared on the Paroksha (opposite) kendras on the right side.

For example, if the lagana nakshatra pada is Aswini 1st pada, the native falls under Surya vamsa graph. So the lagna starts from Ketu (Aswini lord) and ends at Ketu and the lagna is marked over the Ketu box. If it is aswini 2nd pada, the lagna starts from Ketu and ends at Ravi and the lagna is mrked over the Ravi box. Similarly for Aswini 3rd pada and 4th pada, the lagna is marked over the Kuja nad Guru boxes. If the lagna nakshatra pada is in Bharani 1st pada , the native falls under the Chandra vamsa graph. So the lagna starts from Sukra (Bharani lord) and ends at Sukra and the lagna is marked over the Sukra box. Similarly the other lagnas of the padas of 2,3,4 of Bharani are marked over Chandra,Rahu and Sani.

For example, if Ravi is in the nakshatra pada of Pubba 3rd pada, Ravi moves in the Chandra vamsa graph over Sukra (Pubba lord) and ends up at Sani and Ravi is marked over Sani box. If Chandra is in Rohini 1st pada, Chandra starts from Chandra ,moves over, ends at Chandra and Chandra is marked over the Chandra box. If Sani is in Punarvasu 3rd pada, it starts from Sani box,moves over the Guru box in the Paroksha Kendra of Surya vamsa and ends up at Kuja and Sani is marked over Kuja box. Similarly all the other planets are marked over the concerned boxes either in Surya vamsa or Chandra vamsa graphs.

The number 1 is marked over the lagna box and the other numbers 2,3,4 are marked over the other boxes in the same vamsa in clockwise direction. The numbers 5,6,7,8 are marked in the Paroksha varga over the corresponding boxes of similar strengh. For example, for Sukr lagna 1 is marked over Sukra,2 is marked over Chandra, 3 over Rahu, 4 over Sani, 5 over Guru, 6 over Ravi, 7 over Ketu and 8 over Kuja.

 

Graha Balas (Planets Strengths)

The strength of a planet is found depending on its original strength and depending on the original strength of the planet over which it finally ends in its movement as nakshatrapada lord. If the planet’s nakshatrapada lord falls in the same varga, then the planet gets additional strength of the nakshatrapada lord also. If the planet’s nakshatrapada lord falls in the paroksha varga, then the planet gets the the strength as the difference between its original strength and the strength of its nashatrapada lord. For example, Ravi’s nakshatrapada lord if Kuja in the same varga, then to the original strength of 100 of Ravi is added the original strength of 50 of Kuja. On the other hand, if the nakshatrapada lord falls in the Paroksha varga of Chandra vamsa over Sani, then the net strength of Ravi would be the difference between its original strength of 100 and the original strength 50 of Sani ,which means Ravi would be of strength of 50 only.

Relatives

The lord of lagna, that is the nakshatrapada lord of the lagna would represent the native. The 2nd planet from there in clockwise direction would represent the father of the native; the 3rd represents father’s father, elder brother, elder sister and the 4th represents the mother. The 5tht in the Paroksha varga of equivalent strength represents father’s mother, mother’s father; the 6th represents the maternal uncle, the 7th the mother’s mother and the 8th the father’s elder brother or sister. For example in the Surya varga, if Ketu is the lagnadhipati, the 2nd Ravi represents father, the 3rd represents the father’s father, elder brother and sister and the 4th represents the mother. Similarly if the lagnadhipati is Sukra in Chadra vamsa, it represents the native and the 2nd Chandra,the 3rd Rahu and the 4th Sani represent the above relaives respectively. If the Ravi is the lagnadhipati, the of 2nd,3rd,4th planets would be Kuja, Guru, Ketu. If Moon is the lagnadhipati, the order of the 2nd,3rd,4th planets would be Rahu, Sani, Sukra. Similarly the order is to be taken in the clockwise rotation of the other lagnadhipatis.

The same lords would represent all other relatives in the other phases of life. For example, in youth age, the 4th lord represents the wife, the children, the boss. Since the list is big, it is not given here.

The list of the relatives can be extended to represent the relatives of the relatives of the native also. For example, since 2nd lord represents the father , taking this as the lagnadhipati for the father ,all other relative’s of the father can be represented ,such as the 4th of the native which is 3rd from 2nd would represent the father’s elder brother or sister etc.

Native’s Resemblances

From the nakshatra padas of the lagna in the different nakshatra malas, the resemblances of the native can be ascertained. For example, if the native’s lagna nakshatra is Ketu, having the 3 nakshatras of Aswini, Makha , Moola in the 3 nakshatra malas the resemblances would as follows for the different padas. The same would apply for other nakshatras also. This would give some idea to correct the pada if necessary.

Aswini-if lagna is in 1st pada- the native would be born with the resemblances of father’ mother/grand father’s elder brother/ mother’s father; if in 2nd pada resembling mother/father’s elder brother or sister/mother’s younger brother; if in 3rd pada similar to 1st pada; if in 4th pada resembling father, father’s father’s younger sister, father’s younger sister/mother’s elder brother

Makha- if lagna is in 1st pada- resembling mother’s father’s elder brother, mother’s younger brother/grand father/father’s mother; in 2nd pada resembling mother/mother’s elder brother/ father’s elder brother/sister; in 3rd pada resembling father’s father or mother; in 4th pada resembling father

Moola- if lagna is in 1st pada-resembling grand father; in 2nd pada resembling mother/mother’s brother/ father’s elder brother or sister; in 3rd pada resembling father/father’s younger brother or sister/ mother’s elder sister/brother.

Fourth Kendra Graha

The 4th Kendra graha from the lagnadhipati is n clockwise direction would play a major role representing mother, teacher, wife, children , prosperity, health, education, houses, profession boss etc.

If the lagnadhipati is not in its own lagna kendra, but placed over the other kendras in the same varga or in the paroksha varga, then the 4th Kendra for the graha would be considered from that lagnadhipati kendra to give results. For example, if the lagnadhipati Ravi is placed over Ravi that is if he is in Krittika 1st pada, then the 4th kendradhipati would be Ketu. But if Ravi is placed over the 2nd Kendra of Kuja in the same kendrea, that is if Ravi is in Krittika 2nd pada, the 4th kendradhipati would be 4th lord from Kuja,that is Ravi itself. If the same Ravi placed over Rahu, that is in Hasta 1st pada, then the 4th kendradhipati would be Chandra. It may be noted that the 4th lord for the native’s relative, say father, the lagnadhipati of the native would be the 4th lord since father is represented by the 2nd lord of the lord and the 4th from the 2nd would be the 1st lord.

Education, Profession, Houses

The eight yogakartas (lagnadhipatis) with their chaturdha kendradhipatis (4th Kendra lords) would give different education, profession, houses (residence) and their directions as per their effects as follows. If laganadhipati and the chatudhadhipati (4th lord) are in their own kshetras (houses) , the following results would apply. It is to be noted that if the lagnadhipati is located in the same varga or paroksha varga and if it associated with that kendradhipati, then depending on the 4th lord of that kendradhipati the native would get education. Also the native would construct house or live in such houses as per the direction and in the dasa of that lord.

Parama neecha yoga kartas- Ketu and Rahu- would give roughly education from 1 to 6 classes. They would give mostly technical and hand operated (vocational) education Due to their effect, the native would live in thatched or timed houses, in muddy areas, in forests, at the end of the villages, near rivers, tanks, ponds, mountains, under trees. For Ravi lagna natives since Ketu would be the 4th lord and this native would live in such houses in the Southern direction in villages or near villages. For Sani lagna natives, Rahu would be the 4th lord and would give poor education to the native and the native lives in such poor houses in north- west direction.

Paramocha kartas- Ravi and Moon- would give excellent education, languages, scholarly degrees, . With their effect the native would live in big cities, in distant foreign countries, in very big beautiful house with more than 2 stories. If it is the same country, the native lives in the important cities of the countries, if in state in the state’s main cities, if in a district in the main towns of the district , in rajbhavan (government bungalows) or multi-story buildings. For Kuja lagna natives, Ravi would be the 4th lord and Ravi is the lord of east, hence these natives would live in rajbhavans in eastern direction., It is to be noted that if it is Vishnu, the native would live in distant countries, if Devendra ruler in the same country or state, if Ravi in state or district main town in rajbhavan (government bungalows) or in other’s multistoried bungalows. That means, if Krittika 1st pada it is Vishnu, if Uttara 4th pada Devendra, and if Uttashada 3rd pada Ravi. Likewise the Kuja lagna natives, over Ravi as per nakshatra padamsa, from there as per the birth time associated with Vishnu , Devendra on those padas, would give the above results. For Rahu lagna ntives, Chandra would take the 4th lordship. Since this Chandra is the lord for north- east direction, for Rahu lagna natives the north -east direction is important. Such natives would possess big bungalows in north- east or live in them in distant countries in main cities or in same country or state or districts. They would be will educated only.

It is to be noted for Kuja and Rahu lagna natives, if the 4th lord Ravi and Chandra are in their own kendras and in addition 4 grahas are deposited over these kendras, for those natives, beginning from the lagna maha dasa approximately an year ahead, paramaocha yoga starts and remains for 6 or 12 or 18 or 24 years. This applies for only Ravi . So the Kuja lagna natives would get very high postion in political and government related occupations. Similarly for Rahu lagna natives, the native would get extremely high position and results in business or private organizations for 10 or 20 or 30 or 40 years. For this Rahu maha dasa would be his beginning. Such natives only would live in big bungalows or construct and live in them. In addition if on these Ravi and Chandra 2 or 3 grahas are posited, they will be very prosperous with excellent yoga.

Ucha yoga kartas-Guru and Sukra- would give logic, law, dharma, finance, politics related education. Guru would give jyotish, arms, literature, mathematics, business, agriculture and social studies education and would make him as expert and great poet. Sukra as per present education systems would give below degree level. Guru would give single storied building in main cities in western direction and Sukra in south- east direction. For Ketu lagna native, Guru would operate as 4th lord. So the native would be a minister/deputy ruler/ head of law or education department/ director/secretary/confidential adviser or work in such related organizations and live in single storied building in west direction. For Chandra lagna natives, Sukra would be the 4th lord and they will be connected with business or private organizations as partner/ lawer /director/or in education department s vice principal/assistant headmaster/lecturer/teacher or otherwise in agriculture, architecture, jyotish departments as expert living in single storied buildings in south -east direction.

Neecha yoga kartas- Kuja and Sani- would give about 10th class education. The native would work in defence/ police/finance/ banks/treasuries/accounts as inspectors/ managers/ supervisors/clerks. They can be contractors or money- lenders also and for this Kuja is concerned. They will be district heads living in cities in tiles houses in north direction. For Guru lagna natives, Kuja being the 4th lord would give above results. For Sukra lagna natives, Sani being the 4th lord would give about 10th class education and village/town people leadership or representative. They would be connected with grains/animals/agriculture/temples or in business organizations as manager/inspector/supplier/contractor in export/import organization/in small shops in towns/districts in south- west direction.

Parama Neecha kartas- Ketu and Rahu- Ketu gives in government related low class jobs in defence/forest/mines/surgery/roads/canals/airways/news/publishing/chemical departments as drivers/ fitters /cleaners/ draughtsmen /compositors/welders etc with low education. Rahu gives in business related jobs in low class in agricultural fields/pottery/cookery/medical/smithy areas.

Budha Lagna Natives

The ninth graha Budha has not got own house. So his three nakshatras and their 12 padas get the following eight lagna positions. If the lagna nakshatra is Ashlesha or Jyeshta or Revati, then they are called Budha lagna natives.

Aslesha: 1st pada Ketu, 2nd pada Ravi, 3rd pada Kuja, 4th pada Guru
Jyeshta: 1st pada Ravi, 2nd pada Kuja, 3rd pada Sukra, 4th pada Chandra
Revati : 1st pada Rau,2nd pada Sani,3rd pada Sukra,4th pada Chandra.

Like this , the Budha lagna native would be born in Surya and Chandra vamsas.

The Budha graha movement would correspond to Brahma (one of the trinities) 100%, Sarada (wife of Brahma) 75%, Narada (son of Brahma) 50% and Vahanamsa (vehicles of Brahma ) 25%. If it is lagna the native will have such mental qualities of the lagna and if it is in the 4th from lagna the native will do such activities of the 4th Kendra.

If the Budha graha is deposited on the lagna or 4th Kendra, then such natives are likely be adopted. The same adoption or bringing up by others can also take place if the lagna lord or 4th lord is on Budha star in the same or paroksha varga or in its 4th kendra and the natives may also take actions unexpectedly. If this Budha graha is in the 4th pf the kendradhipati, then one of hose kendradhipatis may be adopted or they may inherit properties. If they are of Sarada amsa they will be great scholars, minister, legal/ educational heads. If in Brahma amsa they will be strange creators and constitutional writers. If in Narada amsa, they will be great concialatory experts If in parama neechamsa. They can be great sculptures, researchers, medical experts, meditators, devotees, teachers/priests, sanyasis.

Dasa Results

In Kuja maha dasa, the 4th lord from Kuja , that is Ravi, would gjve the results. If this Ravi is in good condition with good strength, it would give good results and in if in bad condition with bad strength would give bad results. If this Ravi (100%) is in Pubba 3rd pada, then the nakshatrapada lord would Sani (50%) and the net benefic of Ravi would give only upto 50% results. If the same Ravi (100%) is in Pubba 1st pada then the nakshatrapada lord would be Moon (100%) and the net result of Ravi would zero (100%-100%) since it has gone to the paroksha or opposite varga from Vishnu to Siva varga. If any other planet is also deposited on the 4th Kendra of Ravi, then the significations of that planet also comes into play.

If any maha dasa lord in own kshetra operating the same 4th lord, then that 4th lord results would come as it is. In case the maha dasa lord is over some other planet in the same varga or paroksha varga , then the results would as per that some other planet.

Sapta Graha Kendrakarana Phalas (Results of association of planets on a Kendra)

38.if the planets are deposited over lagna Kendra or chaturdha Kendra (4th) , the following would the results depending on their association over the particular amsa. For example, if one planet is over Ravi or Chandra Kendra, the native will be an important person in his family and if 7 planets are over Ravi or Chandra Kendra, he will be a king or president or a crorepati since Ravi and Chandra are of 100% strength in Paramocha. If one planet is over Guru Kendra, then he will depend on others’ money.

Body Parts

The body parts arte divided as right side for Surya varga and the left side for Chandra varga. For different nakshatrapadas, the different parts are allotted. For example, right side parts as per Chandra nadi and their left side parts as per Surya nadi are allotted. In rhese parts which part is critical for longevity (Ayuh Sthana) for which lagna wise are also given. The Kuja -Rahu lagna natives may die due to problems of eyes, heart and thighs, the Ketu-Chandra lagna natives may die due to problems of brian, shoulder, lower back and these two lagan natives are likely to get mental problems also. Ravi-Sani lagna natives may die due to long drawn didease in ears, hand palms, feet and also due to breathing problems
and due to accidents during rtravels. Guru-Sukra lagna natives may die due to defects in teeth, stomach, legs knees, hand joints. For any native if Budha is placed in the 4th Kendra, the Prana may go out through Brahma Kendra (top center of head), mouth, navel , genitals or lower excretory portions. The details are not given due to space problems.

A model horoscope of a person born on 8 December 1944 at 1 Am (after correction for war time) at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh is considered for analysis on this basis. The lagna and the planets nakshatrapadas are worked out as follows:

Here are some interpretations of this graph. Lagandhipati Ravi in the same varga is deposited over the 2nd Kendra of Kuja. Lagna in in Vishnu family varga in Surya vamsa, in Ravi nakshatra of Paramocha, in second nakshatra mala of Devendra ruler, in Kshatriya varga. There are two grahas Budha nad Rahu over lagna. Since lagna is in Uttara 4th pada in 2nd nakshatramala, the native would resemble the father in looks. Lagna is in paramocha, that rajamsa 100%, and so the native will have king-like dignified nature, would like to cominate over the family members of the same varga to achieve the words and deeds, will have dharma, charity, expansion etc. Since the lagnadhipati is in 2nd Kendra over Kuja, the native will have commander amsa of 50% having qualities of a commander, that means, will do duties having control and inspection authority over some people, will do harmful deeds, will have leadership qualities. Since two grahas Budha nad Rahu are deposited over the lagna Kendra the native would be of equal status amongst the persons of the same group. The aim of the life, since lagna is in uttara 4th pada , would be commercial including businesses and other jobs, and fixed assets. Since lagnadhipati Ravi in in 2nd nakshatra mala,Uttara, with Ucha 75% strength, the body part of chest and heart will have this strength. Since the 4th kendra lord is Ketu and lagna is in 2nd nakshtramala,the Ayuh sthana body part would be left hand palm and nerves, which would be the critical parts for death.

If Budha is over lagna Kendra and over the 4th from Kendra and lagnadhipati Ravi is deposited, the native may be adopted or will be brought up by others or will be under the control of others or will not be brought up by the parents.

If the lagnadhipati Ravi is deposited in 2nd Kendra, the concerned relatives in childhood are father, mother’s elder brother/sister, father’s younger brother/sister; in teen age elder brother’s wife, elder sister’s husband,; in youth elder brother’s /sister’s children, younger maternal uncle’s children; in old age mother of daughter-in-law or mother-in-law of daughter etc. The 2nd lord Kuja 50% is not in own kshetra, but deposited in the paroksha Kendra of Sani 50%. That means Kuja lost his strength completely (50-50=0%). So the native will not be fully concerned with the above relatives or their jobs/ business, will have apprehensions about them and will behave with them so without much attachment .

At the time of birth, the native will be concerned with the Shastras, tastes, metal, and body parts of the graha of the Budha nakshatra padamsa lord. Here Budha is over Ravi and so the native will be concerned with jyotish, shastra, pungent taste, copper metal and will have strength in bones.

Since Sukra in over the 4th Kendra from lagna, lagnadhipati is deposited over 2nd Kendra and from 2nd over the 4th Kendra (lagna Kendra) Budha is deposited, the native will have own house. Since 4th Kendra lord Ketu (25%) is over Guru (75%),Sukra(75%) is over 4th Kendra, lagnadhipati Ravi deposited over 2nd and from there 4th lord (that is lagna Kendra lord Ravi 100%) and on that lagnadhipati Rahu (25%) is deposited (net strength 100-25=75%), the overall strength is 75% Ucha yoga, Guru and Sukra (75% Ucha) are connected, the native would construct a house of 75% strength or would live in such houses. That means, the native would construct or live in the main cities of the state in the Guru’s western direction or Sukra’s south east direction in single storied buildings and in the same directions in the cities.

Similarly the education concerned with Guru and Sukra with Ucha 75% will be obtained in the fields of logic, law, dharma, finance, jyotish, practical, arms, music, literature, mathematics, business, agriculture, social studies, poetry with below a formal Degree level.

Similarly in profession, Guru would give minister, director, legal educator, secretary, confidential adviser, and Sukra would give partner in business / private organizations, vice principal/assistant head master/lecturer/teacher in education department.

IN general, for any lagna native, if Sukra is over 4th Kendra, the native will eat and give food to others also spending money. Here since Sukra is the graha in the paroksha varga, the native will have some mental apprehensions and likely to behave in the opposite direction sometimes.

Since 4th lord Ketu is Sevakamsa yoga katrta, the native will have respect for elders, obedience, prayers ot gods, execution of actions as told and planned, timidity, liking for travels and loneliness, ability to do jobs with own effort, simple dresses even in good status, miserliness, negative deceitful attitudes over own or other people trying to move with them closely and to attack them when opportunity comes, the tendency to decipher the attitudes of others. Such natives mostly will be alert to sounds, touches, hand shakes and foot steps. Ketu represents as Mokshakaraka to Vaikunta and Vishnu Bhakta principles and hence would encourage for tapasyas (penances), rishis, yogis and sanyasis and the native would like to be like that. The native is likely to have chronic diseases, defects in body, bad effects from bad spirits, accidents due to fire etc. Since this Ketu is over Guru in the same varga, the native will be of helpful and cooperative nature with good intentions.

The horoscope belongs to my wife and most of the above results apply to her. In her childhood and teens, she was not looked after by her parents and she lived with her maternal uncles and aunts. She resembles her father very much. She would like to dominate over the family members. She is dharmic and charitable. She had commanding qualities with control and inspections over the maid- servants and others doing the jobs concerned with her. She has status equal to other family members . She would like to meet people and talk to them. She would not have much real attachment with relatives and will mental apprehensions about them, though she outwardly moves with them alright. She knows jyotish shastra, music and reads all philosophical literature. She does prayers to Gods. She lives in a beautiful single storied own building. She had not got a degree level education. She takes lot of interest in agricultural activities of plants and garden in the house. She worked as a teacher in a school. She cooks very well and loves to feed to the visitors. She has respect for elders and obedient. She likes travels. She is miserly. She is a devotee of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji) of Tirupati, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. In spite of having the facilities, she would not like to be well dressed and would love to look like a sanyasin and yogi. She has helpful and cooperative tendencies. I have not discussed the dasa results here for this horoscope as system due to paucity of space.

Conclusion

The research done by Shri Late B.N.Krishna Murthy seems to be having some meaning in understanding the levels of values and strengths of each set of nine nakshatras in the three sectors of 120 degrees each and the cosmic heirachy pattern in disseminating the predictions as the Paramocha, Ucha , Neecha and Parama Neecha level. It seems that the alternate planets of the 9 nakshatras are allotted to Vishnu and Siva and the last planet Budha is allotted to Brahma varga as per the Vimsottari dasa system and it is not known in detail how this system of allotment is arrived .The system of finding the nakshatrapada lords is also unique, which would give different lords in the three sectors of 120 degrees apart, other than in the usual navamsa chart. Unfortunately, the system is not easy, the research is not carried forward with much vigor, the books are not available now and not translated into English. Most of the astrologers do not know about this system at all and those who know this system also are no more practicing it. There are lot of gaps in understanding this system to apply it effectively. I have not given many other aspects discussed in the book on theis system such as the details of parts of the body for the nakshatrapadas relating to the critical part for longevity, parivartanas, extension of nakshatrapada lords to Trimsamsa lords (up to 1 degree level), drekkana lords and effects, dwadasama results, janma nakshatra results, planets results, dasa results, professions with two planets associations, the actual complete navamsa graph system, the model horoscope of India given in the book etc due to the restriction of space.

It would be worthwhile that the readers of this esteemed magazine would give some thought over this system and pursue useful research, which may lead to some new revelations in predictive astrology. I am also trying my best in understanding this system .I am hopeful that the present day youngsters intellectual and highly qualified astrologers will do more research in this topic. A Life Pattern In The Light Of Major Planets Transits

The following article was published in The Times of Astrology magazine May 2000 of New Delhi, India.

(The author had tried to evolve a method of taking transits by further simplifying the generalization of Transits of Major planets by rounding off the actual years of transits. Your editor reserves her opinion about such methods. However, looking to the labor put in by one of the brilliant scholars of Astrology in this exercise, the articulations of the author are published just to give an extra input to the thought provoking process of our esteemed readers.)

I propose to discuss the life pattern events of my horoscope purely from the angle of the transits of the major planets- Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu (Dragon Head) and Ketu (Dragon Tail).

The birth data is : Date of birth 7 September 1938, Time of birth 08:56:16 AM IST, Place of birth Vizianagram, Andhra Pradesh, India Longitude 82:30 East, Latitude18:07 North.

Ascendant Libra 5.59.39;Venus 7.10.14,Rahu 27.19.13 in Libra; Moon 20.15.13 in Capricorn; Jupiter retro 2.13.04 in Aquarius; Saturn retro 23.57.23 in Pisces; Ketu 27.19.13 in Aries; Mercury 6.04.34,Mars 6.38.49,Sun20.56.52 in Leo. Ayanamsa 22.54.15


The natal chart and the other tables for the transits of Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu/Ketu mentioning the ages are given as a ready reckoner to visualize the events. The principle to be studied is that Saturn as karma karaka would just decide the events to happen and the natural benefic and Jeeva planet Jupiter and the natural malefics Rahu and Ketu would conduct the good and bad events age-wise depending on the connection of their transits over the concerned Bhavas, Bhava Lords, Bhava Karakas (significators).The recorded time at birth is 7 ghatis 55 vighatis after Sun rise. This is checked as per the Tatwa/Antartatwa Siddhantha (as given in Sri Divakaruni Venkata Subbarao’s book Jyotish Siddhantamu in Telugu language) for male birth on Wednesday, moveable Libra Lagna (Ascendant), Sravana (Moon Star) and found correct.
It is the prime responsibility of an astrologer to rectify the birth time and to consider the native’s background, before proceeding further by whatever method he is satisfied with and whatever Ayanamsha he is used to.
For the sake of ease, instead of checking the actual transits from ephemeris, I propose to take the transit duration in each rasi of Saturn as 2 ½ years,1 year and Rahu/Ketu as 1 ½ years. While doing so the planet longitudes in the natal chart may be kept in view to start the cycles of transits of the major planets. In this analysis, since the Saturn s almost at the end of Pisces (23.57) the cycle of Saturn is taken to start from Aries neglecting a duration of about 6 months for Saturn start. Since Jupiter is at the beginning of Aquarius (2.13) and Rahu is at the end of Libra (27.19) ,the cycles are taken to start from the same rasi with Rahu going anto-clockwise ,neglecting the minor durations of the start.
It is necessary to mention the longitudes of the planets in the natal chart sequentially to see which planet is crossed first by the transit planets to finalize the events and timings. For simplicity sake, the bhava chart and dasa periods are not taken, since different astrologers use different systems only. The Niryana position of planets and Hindu astrology principles are followed.
The idea is not to lessen the importance of the various traditional systems to get the life pattern, but just to check how far the major planets transit themselves may give some clues broadly. The events are evaluated age-wise and this very fact shows a span of about a year for an event to happen.
The so-called Nadi Astrologers also read from their palm leaves for events to happen in a span of 1 to 2 ½ years, from which it is inferred that they may be following the cycles of the transits of major planets with the help of the natal chart.

Let us now see Major Events in the Chart

Education (4th for normal and 9th for higher education):

The degree in Mechanical engineering was in Sep 1959,failing first in March under unusual circumstances (are 21/22) . Around this age, in transit Saturn was in Sagittarius , Jupiter in Scorpio, Rahu in Leo and Ketu in Aquarius. Since Saturn and Jupiter are in Parivartana ( one in other’s sign) ,they can be considered to be in their own signs also. In the transit, Saturn in Sagittarius ( in Jupiter sign) aspects the 4th bhava lord natal Saturn by 3rd aspect being considered to be in Aquarius due to Parivartana,vebrates 4th bhava being just behind ( by Achadana), aspects natal Jupiter education Karaka (significator) in Aquarius by 3rd aspect without considering Parivartana and also gets connected with another education Karaka natal Mercury in Leo by both being in East directions (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius represent east) or being in trine. Jupiter in transit was in Scorpio ( Mars sign 2nd house if also considered for education) aspects 4th lord natal Saturn by 5th aspect. Transit Rahu in Leo over natal Mercury aspects natal Jupiter both Karakas and natalSaturn 4th lord being in Parivrartana. Transit Ketu in Aquarius was over natal karaka Jupiter and natal Saturn 4thlord due to Parivartana aspecting natal karaka Mercury. The other proposition that the retrograde planets can be considered to be in their previous signs, can also be applied for analysis for the natal retrograde Saturn and Jupiter, if necessary. In this chart since Saturn as karmakaraka connected to the 4th bhava decided the event of education around that age. The natural benefic Jupiter conducted the education of mechanical engineering being transiting in Scorpio in the sign of Mars representing machinery and technical side. The natural malefics Rahu and Ketu being connected to 4th bhava in ther transits played their mschievous role of giving a failure and break in education, though the native was a brilliant student.
The other higher educations are diploma in French March 1969/70 (age 31/32), Master degree in mechanical engineering march 1986/87 (age 47/48) and diploma in management Nov 1987/88 (age 50/51). In Nov 1987 /88 in transits Saturn in Sagittarius aspects 9th house, Jupiter in Aries aspects natal 9th lord Mercury in Leo by 5th aspect, Rahu and Ketu in Capricorn and Cancer are not connected to 9thbhava. In 1986 transit Saturn in Scorpio aspects 9th lord natal Mercury by 10th aspect, transit Jupiter in Aquarius aspecting 9th bhava and 9th lord natal Mercudry, Rahi and Ketu in transits in Pisces and Virgo are not connected to 9th bhava. Thus during transits in those ages , Saturn as karmakaraka decided the events of higher education /knowledge and the natural benefic Jupiter conducted the events without much obstructions from the natural malefics Rahu and Ketu.

Profession/Service (10th and 6th bhavas):

The first appointment in paper mills was in Jan 1960 (age 21/22) , resigned and joined in Dec 1960 in Defense Research and Development Organization of Government of India. As earlier analyzed transit Saturn in Sagittarius is connected to 10th lord Natal Moon by being behind aspecting 6th lord natal Jupiter. Transit Jupiter in Scorpio is also connected to 6th and 10th bhavas by aspecting 6th bhava and 6th lord natal Jupiter in Pisces due to Parivartana by 5th aspect and 10th bhava by 9th aspect and profession karaka Saturn in Pisces by 5th aspect. Transit Rahu is just behind 10th bhava aspecting 6th lord natal Jupiter. Transit Ketu is over 6th lord natal Jupiter. Thus transit Saturn as karmakaraka conncted to 67th and 10thbhavas decided the event of service/profession, the natural benefic Jupiter conducted the event of connecting to mechanical engineering/defence (natal marts aspect) and research and the natural malefics Rahu and Ketu gave problems and changes in the job.

Promotions (6th, 10th and 11th):

The first promotionto gazetted post was in June 1962 (age 23 v/24). The transit Saturn was over 10th natal Moon aspecting 10th bhava by 7th aspect and 6th bhava by 3rd aspect. The Jupiter was over 6th lord natal Jupiter aspecting 11th bhava of gains. The transit Rahu was in 10th bhava aspecting 10th lord natal Moon.. The transit Ketu was over 10th lord natal Moon aspecting 10th bhava. Thus Saturn decided the promotion event, Jupiter conducted the event and Rahu/Ketu gave some tensions and delays. Similarly the promotions on 23 Nov 1965 (age 27/28) ,on 16 June 1972 (age 33/34) and July 1981/82 (age 43/44) can be judged.

Voluntary Retirement ( 1st, 9th, 5th bhavas being 12th to 10th and 6th ):

The voluntary retirement was on 1st Sep 1990 (age 51/52). The transit Saturn was in Sagittarius aspecting 9th bhava (12th to profession 10th bhava), 5th bhava (12th to service 6th bhava) and 6th bhava lord natal Jupiter. The transit Jupiter in Taurus aspectiing natal 10th lord Moon by 9th aspect almost touching 9thbhava (12th to 10th ). The transit Rahu in Sagittarius aspects 9th bhava and the transit Ketu was over 9thbhava. Thus the transit Saturn as karma karaka wanted to decide to continue the service and also termination of profession/service. The transit Jupiter also wanted to conduct profession with a slight connection to negation. But the transit Rahu and Ketu strongly interfered for ending of profession /service. ( In fact Saturn and Jupiter continued the activities of Astrology/Philosophy subsequently after they entered Capricorn and Cancer). It may also be noted that the almost connection of transit Saturn to Capricorn and transit Jupiter connection to Gemini would be aspecting the Lagna lord natal Venus in Libra by their 10th and 5th aspects thus bringing out the self (voluntary) into the decision of retirement.

Marriage ( 7th bhava):              

The marriage was on 22 Feb 1964 ( age 25/26). The transit Saturn in Aquarius aspects 7th bhava by 3rdaspect and 7th lord Mars by 7th aspect. The transit Jupiter almost in end of Pisces entering into Aries 7thbhava almost aspecting 7th bhava lord Mars by 5th aspect and marital relation karaka natal Venus in Libra (Mars is also taken as karaka for actual marital knot). The transit Ketu in Sagittarius aspects 7th bhava by 5th aspect and 7th lord natal mars by 9th aspect. Thus Saturnkarmakaraka decided this karma event of marriage. Jupiter helped to conduct the event though Rahu and Ketu created some tensions and delays.

Birth of Son (5th bhava ):

The son was born on 25 Nov 1964 (age 26/27). The transit Saturn is in Aquarius In 5th bhava over Jupiter karaka for children and over 5th lord natal Saturn considered to be in Aquarius being in Parivartana with natal Jupiter. The natal Jupiter is in Aries, but being retrograde aspects the behind 5th lord natal Saturn in Pisces.. the transit Rahu inTaurus is not connected to 5th bhava. The natal Ketu being in Scorpio aspects the 5th natal Saturn by 5th aspect. Thus the transit Saturn decided the event of birth of a child and Jupiter conducted the event. Rahu did not interfere though Ketu gave some minor tensions.

Mother’s death (11th bhava being 8th to 4th ):

Mother died in Oct 1987 (age 49/50). The transit Saturn in Scorpio aspects the 11th bhava (8th to 4th bhava representing mother) and 11th lord natal Sun in Leo. The transit Jupioter in Pisces is not connected to 11thbhava . the transit Rahgu in Aquarius spects 11th bhava and 11th lord natal Sun. The taransit Ketu in Leo is in 11th bhava and over 11th bhava lord. Thus Saturn as karama karaka decided the event of mother’s death. Jupiter being not directly connected to 11th bhava ,the malefic Rahu and Ketu conducted the bad event.

Father’s death (4th bhava being 8th to 9th ):

Father died on Oct 1988 (age 50/51). The transit Saturn in Sagittarius aspected 4th lord natal Saturn considered to be in Aquarius due to Parivartana andalmost touched 4th bhava being behind by Achadana. The transit Jupiter in Aries was connected with 4th bhava. The transit Rahu in Capricorn was over 4th bhava and mother karaka natal Moon. The transit Ketu in Cancer aspected 4th bhava and 4th lord natal Saturnby 9th aspect. Thus Saturn karmakaraka decided the event of father’s death. The natural benefic Jupiter being not connected to 4th bhava directly could not save the situation and the natural maleficsRrahu and Ketu being connected more directly with 4th bhava conducted the bad event.

Subsequently, the native is continuing his hobby activities of research in astrology and philosophy, traveling abroad (9th and 12th bhavas) giving lectures /consultations, publishing books and articles on astrology(3rd bhava ) and counseling those who come for his advice. These events and subsequent future indications of life pattern can be similarly linked up with the transits of major planets over the concerned bhavas,lords and bhava karakas (significators).

I may mention here that I do notclaim to be introducing anything new here and this is only a sthula (broad) analysis to get some idea about the events. The retrograde motions of major transit planets in signs ,transits over Navamsha and other Varga chrts (divisional charts) and transits of other minor planets for monthly and daily level events, may give a better shookshma (subtle) life pattern events, particularly in the case of twins or those having similar charts. The Nadi astrology pattern of division upto 150 parts may give the subtlest life pattern story, if any astrologer really can do concerned research by maintaining and critically studying the life data of many charts in this field. Unfortunately most of the astrologers do not collect, maintain and follow the events critically with a research angle and discuss amongst themselves to formulate some important clues to hit the bull’s eye to evolve the subtlest life pattern of a chart to suit this modern circumstances. Of course, I do agree that it may be mostly possible to check the past events by whatever may be the method adopted and it is rather difficult to arrive at the correct future events by so many elimination processes without considering the background of the individual and checking the past events including the parentage (if not grand parentage also), co-borns, uncles, birth country, environmental circumstances etc to understand the pattern of the seed ,soil and season. I also agree that if this horoscope is given for analysis without giving any background, it may be difficult to predict these 4 past events in those ages definitely and then how one can hit future events accurately.

The readers of this esteemed “The Times of Astrology” may use this scheme at the outset intelligently to predict the events broadly before going into the detailed regular traditional methods of their choice.. I request the readers to inform about their findings of this method to me or write in this esteemed magazine for the benefit of all.

Nadi Astrology

The following article was published in “The Times of Astrology”magazine, New Delhi, India Jan 2000.

 

Introduction

Most of the readers may be knowing by now about Nadi astrology, since many articles have been published in magazines and newspapers. Some books were also published and much exchange of information has been taking place through internet and e-mail. For the benefit of those who are not familiar with this branch of astrology I give a brief background of the same from the reliable literature. Nadi astrology was written on palm leaves in ancient India. It is mostly prevalent in South India particularly in the Tamilnadu State. Its main center is a place called ‘Vaitheerswarankoil’ near ‘Chidambaram’in Tamilnadu State. It is also available in some other places of Chennai, Kanchipuram, Salem, Hyderabad/Secunderabad, Tirupati etc. There are many Nadi Grandhas and they are named after Hindu Gods, Sages and Planets such as Mahasiva Nadi, Brugu Nadi, Kowmara Nadi , Koushika Nadi, Vashishta Nadi Agastya Nadi, Sapta Rishi Nadi, SatyaNadi Chandra Kala Nadi etc. They are available in the languages of Tamil, Sanskrit mainly. The palm leaves are held by certain families who read the results from the palm leaves mostly by taking the thumb impression and some from palm and birth data.

I also propose to discuss brief examples of actual readings from thumb prints or otherwise from some nadi astrologers, their veracity with respect to past and future, correlation with traditional astrological principles, my experiences, opinion of others, doubts and questions, further research required on the same. This is based on my collection of data and research for the last three decades

History

The origin of these leaves can be traced back to approximately 2000 years ago. It is presumed that the Sapta Rishis (Seven Sages) had written the life patterns of each person on palm leaves along with their types of names by their Yogic Powers. These unique leaves were kept in the Saraswati Mahal’ library of Tanjore city of Tamilnadu State in India. Later during the British Rule the British were very keen to acquire these types of ancient leaves dealing with herbal cure, alchemy, fortune-telling etc; but left some of the astrological leaves to their loyalists. Some were put to auction also. People belonging to a particular sect called Valluvar community who specialized in astrology bought these leaves. Some of these were acquired by the astrology families in Vaitheeswarankoil about 60 years ago from Thanjavur Saraswati Mahal Library . The leaves were found lying idle in Vaitheeswarankoil by about 13th century the forefathers found them realized their values and copied the contents on palm leaves and made exact replica These leaves have been handed down over generations to make predictions. They earned their livelihood through Nadi Astrology. It is a hereditary profession for them. They got trained from their elders to do Nadi reading. What is written on the leaves is read and explained by them. The language is poetic and the script is also different. It is the same as in the ancient temples. Some of the Nadis are available in the Oriental Manuscripts Library at Chennai, India though in mutilated condition and the SaptaRishiNadi was published in Tamil in six volumes lagna wise . The Sanskrit texts were translated and written on palmyra or palm leaves in old archaic tamil language. There were some nadigranthas translated into another South Indian Telugu language. Marata King Sarabhoji and Chola Kings patronized this form of astrology and translations. It is stated that Sage Agasthya has written in Tamil. They have a certain amount of collection leaves. For each thumb print there will be 6 granthas. In each granthas there will be 108 sizes and 12 parts according to Siva Nadi and 50 sizes in Agastyanadi that means for one thumb print many stories of person can be read. In Siva Nadi more details are given as discussion between Lord Siva and Parvati than in Agastya Nadi . It seems that these Nadis were originally written on animal skins and some leaves and later they were copied on palm leaves. They re preserved by applying oil extracted from peacock’s blood.

The Nadi readers say that natives whose leaves are there will somehow or other comes to them at the appropriate age specified on the leaves from any corner of the world. Leaves are there not only for Indian but for foreigners also belonging to other religions. Who ever are desired to look into the leaves will go to them on his own accord. They very word Nadi in Tamil mean (destined) to come own accord. Those who are not destined may not even know such a type of astrology exists. Even the very age when the native is destined to go to them is marked on the leaves. So they say they do not adventure for their profession. Whoever is destined to come will come faith is the root of their system. It is also stated that about 40% of the people in the world only are likely to get these results as available.

Procedure

The Nadi Astrologer is generally busy and one has to take an appointment with him a month before approximately When you go there on the appointed day he checks his dairy and take the three impressions of the right thumb for males and the left thumb for females on a paper giving serial order number and ask you to wait till he calls you. Then he goes inside his library room where the palm leaves are kept which is not accessible to others. After an hour or so, sometimes quicker, he comes back with an old palm leaf bundle called index leaves. After making himself comfortable he carefully unwinds the long string which keeps the bundle in tact. He tells you to answer yes or no to his questions. With great devotion he takes the first palm leaf and starts reading on one side. The reading style is of funny accent in a poetic way, not understandable to even Tamilians. After reading one or two lines or even less sometimes he asks you some questions and you have to answer yes or no only. If you say ‘No’ he proceeds to the other side of leaf or next leaf and continues his questions. The questions are generally one or two at a time , such as whether y our name is after some God /Goddess contains 3 or 4 or so letters or so, starts ends with a particular letter in a Varga (series) of the Hindu alphabets, Similarly about the names of parents and wife/husband whether anyone of them or both are alive or dead, number of elder and younger brothers and sisters, number of children number of uncles, type of profession, whether you are born in rainy season /summer etc. whether you are born in moveable /fixed/dual Moon and lagna rasis, whether you are born in a particular Moon Birth star whether you are born in a particular day in a particular year whether your age is so and so etc. He says that h e does not know what questions to ask unless he scans the leaves and that is why they generally insist the concerned person or a person who knows every detail about the persons consulted, should be present to answer the questions correctly, otherwise they say the readings won’t go wrong. They do no bother much of you cannot answer questions about birth date month age, Moon rasi and star, lagna and they seem to bother more about matching of your name names of parents and wife/husband. If he gets ‘No’ answers to all the leaves of the first bundle which he goes back into his library and brings another bundle. This process continues for an hour or so generally covering generally up to bundles each consisting about 50 leaves or sometimes quickly even in the first bundle till he and your are satisfied and the answers to all the questions in a particular leaf are ‘yes’ only Concerning names, parents, wife /husband, co-borns profession etc.

Then he goes inside and bring another particular bundle and reads in poetic style your actual birth date month land year the astrological birth chart with position of planets sometimes with lagna also exact names of yourself, parents, wife/ husband, co-born, education, profession and gist of future predictions in a broad way and this is called General Kandam (chapter) of first bhava. You can verify the chart given if you know your birth chart he writes the concerned verses from the leaf in a note book . Then he records the same in an audio tape with translation into common understandable Tamil or some other languages with the help of a translator if necessary . He generally charges a minimum of 300 rupees upto this General Kandam Then he asks you whether you want to more details about any particular aspect of your life such as marriage, profession, etc and if so he picks up corresponding bundle and charges a similar amount extra for each aspect which he calls it a separate kandam or chapter. Some chapters give details about previous birth, remedial measures etc. At the end he hands over the note book and audio tape to you with devotion and takes money generally at the place where the photos of Gods /Goddess are there.

Details Of Kandams (Chapters)

The details covered in each Kandam generally are as follows:-

Kandam 1 – To be found through thumb impression (gents right, ladies left or sometimes by horoscope of the concerned person or palm, will contain name parents and wife/husband’s names brothers, sisters, maternal uncles, children, profession and general list of future predictions for all the 12 houses.
Kandam 2 – Money family speech, eyes, education.

Kandam 3 – Brothers and Sisters

Kandam 4 – Mother ,House, Lands, Vehicles, Pleasures

Kandam 5 – Children Birth of children, reasons for not having children.

Kandam 6 – Enemies, Diseases, Debts, cases in court.

Kandam 7 – Marriage., Married life

Kandam 8 – Danger to life, longevity, period of death.

Kandam 9 – Father, Wealth, luck, Temple devotion to God ,Preaching from Holyman

Kandam 10 – Business, Job, Profession

Kandam 11 – Gain , Second Marriage.

Kandam 12 – Expenditure , Foreign visit, salvation,next birth.

Kandam 13 – Shanthi Kandam – Last Birth, Sins committed, remedial measures

Kandam 14 – Deekshakandam- Mantra Japam and wearing of talisman (Raksha)

Kandam 15 – Avushathakandam Medicines for long standing diseases.

Kandam 16 – Dasa Bhuktikandam prediction for the present major and subperiod of the planet.

In addition to these, there is also a special chapter for ‘Prasna’ where any
query is answered.

Generally Remedial measures are like visiting particular temple, feeding the
poor etc, corresponding to sins the remedial measures re suggested. Suggestion of giving alms to the Nadi reader.

Identification Process From Thumb Print Impression

Lines on the thumb are classified in 1008 types, some say 108 types. Palm leaves are arranged according to these types. The Nadi readers identify the particular types of lines on the thumb and the corresponding set of palm leaves is taken. For example, a particular type is called Conch Shell with a circle. Among these there are many sub-divisions based on the number of dots on the thumb. Impressions with 5 or more dots are very rare. The time duration to pick up your leaf depends upon the identification of the thumb impression. Some impressions are identified easily and the corresponding leaves are found soon, for legal purposes, the whole thumb is studied minutely. But they concentrate only on the centre part of the thumb and the sub-divisions therein.

Claims Of Nadi Readers

According to the claim of Nadi astrologers the contents of the leaf are 99% accurate. And it is the accuracy that has made people from diverse walks of life throng his residence. Generally he insists on seeing only about 5 people a day on appointment, which is usually fixed a month in advance. Without the truth and integrity, they cannot survive for so many years and generations. Of course, there are places where there are fake leaves. They will not be able to show the leaf with your name and other details they have clients from USA, Canada , Japan, Hongkong, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and other places. Some even faxes their thumb impressions and gets the predictions. They have translators with them to serve them their children are also inherent in this profession and they are learning the old script and other languages. With the blessings of their ancestors, they will continue for generations. They have so many people benefited by the remedial measures and they get feed back from the clients. Pleased with their service, they bring their friends and other relatives for Nadi reading. They would like to tell the people that they are only ‘Nadi readers’. What is written on the leaves is read and explained by them. They themselves do not add anything. Some clients get irritated when some of the facts are unpleasant. They cannot help it. With utmost patience they clear their doubts. Common people and VIPs (very important persons) from all walks of life have consulted them. They show them the particulars of where the predictions for the native are given. Some of their customers are able to read the leaves on their own. Some even buys their leaves for preservation. They can even take photographs of the names in the leaf. It is possible to train those who are interested in learning nadi Jyotish in terms of Guru-Shishya parampapra (teacher-Discipline system)and Sanskrit languages, and this knowledge of Nadi Jyotish could be acquired by those who are totally dedicated lifelong to this Shastra (science).

However, the future of the leaves themselves seems to be uncertain. Though the leaves are smeared with Ayurvedic act, the leaves would turn black after 100 years or so. While they plan to save the contents of the leaf on the computer, they have their own doubts about doing that. They will not feel the same reverence reading the computer prints out as they do when they read the leaf.

Some Examples Of Actual Nadi Readings

I prefer to give below three Nadi Readings taken from me from different Nadis and Readers, so that their veracity can be discussed authentically, since I cannot give here all t e readings from various Nadis consulted at different places at different times which also gave some correct future results.

Kowmara Nadi Reading In Chennai

My first encounter with a Nadi Grantha was on 22nd February 1968 (in my 29th year) when my father -in-law Shri U.G.Krishna Murthy (Philosopher and World traveler , popularly known as U.G.) having known my interest in the study and research of astrology, took me personally to Kowmara Nadi astrologer (Shri T.Chandrasekhar) in Madras (now Chennai) India, since h e knew Tamil also. I happened to see the correct Kowmara Nadi Readings of my father-in-law much earlier , which was given by the father of the present nadi reader.

The Nadi Reader asked whether I knew my date and birth chart and he said it would be faster to pick up the concerned leaf. I gave him the same./ Then the procedure was the same , he brought back some index cards and asked me questions to answer yes or no leaf after leaf. Some of the questions whether my name and my father’s name were given after the name of Lord Venkateswara, whether I have one sister and one son, whether my wife’s name was after one of the names of wives of Trimurthy’s (Bhrahma ,Vishnu,Maheshwara) etc. I asked for my profession (10th Kanda) and he wrote the readings in Tamil verses in a notebook and translated in English as follows.

“After praying to Goddess Parvati , Vasista and Viswamitra are narrating the tenth part of a person having following horoscope”- Ravi Buddha and Kuja in Simha, Guru in Khumba, Ketu in Mesha , Chandra in Makara , Sani in Meena, Tula Linga, Sucker and Rahu in Lagna. Name Venkata Ramana , Mother Annapurna, Father Venkat Rao. The Lord of the 10th house being Chandra is deposited in kendra. Sukra is in his own house and is expected by ketu. Guru and Sani are in parivartana. Kuja and Buddha in the 11th house. For these reasons he will have average ancestral property. He will have a very good start in his career and makes a great deal of progress in all his enterprises. The details are as follows.

“He completes his education in 21st year and proficiency will be shown in vocational education . He will be employed in the following year. He will be skillful in making the necessary parts of machines and service will be rendered to a private commercial firm. He will be paid adequately. Government will be helpful to him in the part of his work from 23rd year . He will be engaged in the manufacture of defense articles He will show his efficiency in planning and designing various equipments. He will have a great name in 27th year. He will be occupied in the making of high explosives which is planned by tube-like things and also things, which are useful shooting with the intention damaging lives and properties. The practical work will be intensified in the 28th year. The scientific knowledge in the matter will be made full. His power will raise. He will see whether the work is carried out properly . His skill will be encouraged in the 30th year and he enriches his knowledge by scrutinizing and analyzing the operation of various missiles. He will be engaged in miscellaneous kind of activities his capacities for organization will be developed in the following three years. His income will be satisfactory. He makes out various plans and executes . He earned a good name in 35th year. Takes charge of various sub divisions The number of tools and machines to be operated by him will be increased various departments will come under his control . Good results will be achieved in 38th year. Work relating to planning sketches will be on the increase. He will be well- known in distant places or countries. He will be able to conduct and control all the affairs of the department. New schemes will be prepared in the 40th year and the scale of pay will be better than before. He is capable of giving training to others and will have great name in the industrial circles. He offers advice in all matters of manufacture in the following two years. He will show his strength in the technical side and he will hold an extraordinary power. He will be honored by Central Government. He wins the confidence of the administrators and works for them with greater enthusiasm. Administrative responsibilities will be taken over by him in 48th year. His attention will be concentrated on raw materials. He will be held in high esteem by an association where scientific and technical people join together for promoting their studies. His strength and efficiency will go in 50th year and makes necessary arrangements for the development of the work he undertakes. He will be able to manage the establishment more efficiently than ever and maintains his position through out . When Maharishis said so Parvati remarked that those who are closely associated with him in the work would hinder him . She said that he will get away from the these evils by performing Karma Kanda.”

Comments on this Reading

I should comment that all the past and future details are correct, covering the birth chart, exact names, engineering degree, first job in private paper mills, and latter in central government in defense research and development laboratories in guns and rockets., promotions, hidden enemies etc except the” maintaining this position throughout” since I took voluntary retirement at my 52nd age and not work any where subsequently having specific profession except pursuing my astrology and philosophy hobbies. But strangely it may be noticed that no detailed profession was given after 50th year. Some astrological discussions are made. I took karma kanda also and the reading prescribed prayers to certain gods/goddesses each day in a week along with certain diet for certain number of weeks etc, the details of which h I do not give here due to problem of space. I did the prescribed remedial measures and I cannot vouchsafe that they really helped me, but generally the profession was all right with some usual disappointments. Subsequently I went to him after my retirement but he said that my leaf of profession was not available which almost confirmed that I will not have any job later.. The readings seem to be based on Saturn transit of 2 ½ year in each rasi. The readings are crisp and straightforward.

Vasishta Nadi In Vaitheeswarankoil

The following are the readings given by Sri I T.Ravi nadi reader in Vasistha nadi in Vaitheeswarankoil on 27 June 1991(age 52) after the thumb impression and initial usual questions for general kanda ,profession kanda and shanti kanda.

General Kanda

I should comment again almost all the past and future events till now are correct covering birth date 7th Sept,1938, Shravana star, Thula Lagna) birth chart names retirement, new research computer astrology, first foreign trip to USA in June 1992 with wife as astrology to give lecture in the conventions of American Federation of Astrologers , Publishing of book “How to read a Horoscope A scientific model of predictions based on benefic and malefic analysis of planets and bhavas “by M/s.Motilal Banarsidass Publisher of Delhi, India, assistants helping in computer astrology print outs, people coming in search of me, extension of present house, more research in astrology, meditations, nervous trouble wife’s ill health etc, except for some funny astrological statement of “Kalatra Karaka in 7th and Jeevanakaraka Moon in Kendrasthana Makara Government job and engineering job “you will gain lot of income through y our new astrology” Since I get only very limited amount only. Here also the stress of the reading s seems to be more from transits of Saturn and Jupiter though touching the main dasa periods. Comments on This Reading

I should comment here again that almost all past and future all past and future events tell now correct except for some small mistakes here and there, and they are not more specific as in the earlier quoted Vasistha Nadi and here also Saturn transit only is mentioned. There is a difference in the life span and parihara mentioned, though it is also Vasistha Nadi but the reader is different. Here the ages of past events are given in more detail. I did not do the prescribed remedies as Durga temple also.

It would not be very easy to correlate and predict the events specifically traditional astrological principles, as given by the Nadi reader. Since 10th lord Moon is in Mars Exaltation house and Mars is with Sun, we can say that the profession may be connected to technical and government. Since 5th and 6th lord parivarthana (exchange of houses) and 5th lord aspect by 12th lord Mercury there can less be children. Since 3rd lord is Retrograde and parivarthana with Saturn and Mars and 11th lord Sun in 11th house with 12th lord Mercury, there can be less number of coborns. Since Saturn in 6th in Meena Rasi aspecting 12th house, and one to being retrograde considered to be in Kumbha aspected by 9th and 12th lord Mercury, and Sun is with 9th and 12th lord foreign travels can be expected in Saturn Dasa-Sun bhukti. The voluntary retirement can be expected in Saturn-Venus period due to shashtashtaka (6thand 8th positions to each other), Saturn in 6th house of service and Venus is lagna lord in lagna giving self involvement and this combination is not considered good as per ‘Uttarakalamrutha’ grantha when they are both benefit planets. The publication of book can be expected in Saturn -Rahu period Since Saturn aspects 3rd house relating to writings and Rahu is in Jupiter Star connected to astrology. The study of transits of Saturn, Jupiter , Rahu and Ketu may reveal these events . Anyway this would be only a postmortem analysis unless one is very thorough with his astrological principles and highly experienced to progress the chart very professionally to prefix that exact future events before the events occur. However, it would be highly impossible to tell the exact names.

My Experiences

I consulted Kowmara Nadi, Vasistha Nadi, Maha siva vakya tulya Nadi, Kaushika Nadi, Kashyapa Nadi, Suka Nadi, Viswamitra Nadi, Vyasa Nadi, Agastya Nadi, Skanda Nadi in Chennai, Salem, Kanchipuram, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Tirupati from 1968 onwards till now for myself, wife, son and other friends. Only at places recently at Hyderabad I was told that my leaf was not available and it should be got from Vaitheeswarankoil.

Here are some of my brief reactions about the same;- After taking the thumb print, nobody asked me my date and time of birth no different appointments, nobody monitored behind the screen in other room, being an astrologer myself I was very careful not to give any clues. In the index scanning, leaf after leaf they asked whether moon star or lagna in chara or sthira or dwiswabhava rasi whether my name and names of wife and parents certain names after some God or Goddess or contained certain number of letter, sounds of letters whether present age is so and so whether coborns are so many numbers whether parents alive or dead, whether born certain seasons year month and dates etc Moon star etc etc They never asked the exact ones and I never told the exact ones till end.

Now the real trick to tell exactly about your date of birth, names co-borns etc comes into play. Even if an exact chart with degrees of planets given can an astrologer tell these purely from astrological principles may be if he is thorough with his subject highly experiences but definitely no as far as telling the exact names probably in names likely may sound unless h e has got some extraordinary psychic powers . Then how do they tell with a broad chart. The exact past events and names when the detailed charts of twins also differ. I did not check the twins’ charts with them and it would be worthwhile to do that for this research. So at this stage there must be having some method to correct the available nearest chart to give your readings. I heard that they rewrite the leaves at certain intervals of time as per the coding and system mentioned in some introductory to such to the cycles of time I am not sure. Or their recitation of some mantra would be enabling them to tell the events through some spirit.

How did Sage Satyacharya write in Dhruvanadi a life pattern for each nadi amsha and, without fixing the nadi amsha one should not proceed further and he did not tell how to tell exact names. Are these so-called nadi readers are conversant with intricacies of astrology at all. I interviewed with some of them with some astrological talk, while reading they said they did not know much of astrology and said they were trained for 10 to 12 years how to pick up and read the leaves. Even if you cannot answer some of his questions pertaining to astrological debut such as moon position, moon star, lagna position etc, and some times even your birth date and month year since you do not know your birth data and chart, the nadi fellow tells your date of birth, chart, exact names etc. So it seems to me that the linking the exact names play a vital role and you can easily see the veracity of this since another person with some chart cannot have the same names of theirs and parents. Even in twins with 3 minutes birth difference the names of twins differ but sound similar but with different charts, but same names of parents.

Being an astrologer I can easily see this whole process is to know the position of planets Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu, Sun, Moon, Lagna for example if he asks whether I am 60 years old and I agree by working backwards from now the position of Saturn 2 ½ years Jupiter (1 year) Rahu and Ketu (1 ½ yrs) one approximately can know my birth year and their position at my birth year, If he asks whether I was born in rain season and I agree, sun position can be known approximately, similarly Moon position generally do not bother about the lagna that means birth time. They get satisfied with the approximate names also after some scanning. But still the whole chart is not known at this stage, these index leaves have got some linking charts to be picked up .Then they bring the leaf if available and give the whole chart exact date of birth, names, past events, future etc as a general Kandam and you will be impressed. This is their training process and they generally do not agree for reading without thumbprint even if you want to give chart. They never give the degree portion of planets and lagna in the chart. So obviously other Vargas charts the nearest one which matches your past events since it is not possible to have records of all charts.

On 31st May 1993 (age 55) in Salem I tried to jot down points as the Nadi reader was reading leaf after leaf from the index bundles and he noticed and objected to the same. In 5th bundle of index leaves in about 15th leaf all the details about names, profession, lagna, rasi matched, the nadi reader told me when the thumb impressed would be connected to 5 to 12 bundles of General Kandam each bundle roughly containing about 50 leaves, any one of bundle and any one of leaf would be connected to you. In fact the nadi reader got fed up reading so many leaves and after 3 bundles he refused to continue even, but upon my request he finally got it in 5th bundle ie. After reading about 200 leaves (an enormous strenuous job for both of us!) can we get any clues from these types of series of questions to arrive at the correct leaf matching your data?

Recently I had a funny experience while reading the index cards for my friend the nadi astrologer asked whether moon is in cancer in Aslesha and also asked about the approximate names of parents. We said the parents’ names are correct, but the star is wrong. Then after some leaves, he again said the same parents names but with Pushyami star, which we again denied. After some more leaves, he again said same names but with Punarvasu star and we agreed since we knew the star and the chart. If we do not know the exact moon star what leaf the nadi astrologer decides and he may choose the wrong leaf. If he is not patient to scan thoroughly to verify other past events and the readings can be wrong. So it is possible, that somebody might have been born with similar parents named but with different moon stars, such as in twins or otherwise also elsewhere in different places.

In olden days, the names were given as per the letters sounds mentioned for moon stars, though nowadays nobody follows those rules to give names., Even then the nadi astrologers tell the exact names not only of Hindus but some extent of foreigners also so what is that astrological principle from which one can tell exact names ? As far as I know there is none. Therefore, it is possible that the nadi astrologers propitiate some spirit to tell these exact names including exact past events, since they are not conversant with astrology thoroughly., The future events would come correct or not depends on theexperience and attention of the nadi astrologers. Also I found that all the nadi astrologers would not tell exactly the same future and events remedial measures defending upon the nadi grantha they follow, through they tell the past correctly I presume that the same is time when they tell about the past life. Invariably the remedial measures, they ask for some money to be given to nadi reader and the prescribed pujas to Gods/Goddess would be related to places the Tamilnadu. So these cannot be relied upon.

You go to the same nadi reader after one year and take the readings again from the same nadi grantha, will he give the same readings as he had given one year back. I have yet to check this, without telling him that I consulted him a year back. I presume that it would be different readings of the nadi reader changer even if the same nadi grantha were consulted because I feel the person who reads is also involved in the process defending upon his experience.

Just as an off-track, I gave on prediction to some client with probable turning, he came back later to me andtold me that it happened, and wanted to ask some other thing. I again looked at his chart at his second visit and could not find the astrological reason how I told that fury prediction, so is it some other extra sense working at the time of prediction along with astrological reasons to decide the event depending on your meditations andexperience. Yes, I feel it would be so, when there is doubt about the decision for giving prediction, purely from astrology angle. That is why, it is said in sastras that the astrologers should follow the ethics and Dharamas to couple real excellent reasons along with the analysis following the astrological principles, so that the correct predictions would come out.

So what is difference between these Nadi Astrologers and the other real good astrologers. I feel the former would purely use his training with Mantra or spirit without any astrological background. Another safe escape a for the nadi astrologers is that he would say that he read whatever was there and you have no means of meeting anddiscussing with him again. Where as the other astrologer is answerable subsequent for his predictions, of course he can also escape saying that the birth time may be wrong, but it would be his moral duty andcertify the birth time depending on the events and the birth date. The nadi astrologers sued the Vakya Siddhanta for casting the horoscopes and some times the position of planets differ from what we get usually. One Tamil language expert told me that it is not possible to read the scripts understand.

Some say that astrology is not a pure service. I feel that other sources i.e. medicine, space travel etc. Are also not exact andthere are failures in spite of lot of literature and research is available in these areas. Unfortunately the total literature, research andexperience in the field of astrology is not available. It is true that no exact future can be told in astrology or even in other sciences when the space rockets burst in spite of lot of computer calculations, experiments.

Opinions of Others

It would be highly impossible to give here the opinion of others on Nadi astrology as innumerable in many articles in ‘The Astrological Magazine’ since 1956 and books. However I would like to state the crux from some articles, books my discussions with others personally and via e-mail.

During my discussions with my Guru Late B.V.Raman in January 1998, he told “Nadi Granthas can be broadly divided into Mantras and Tantric, the former mainly based on the power and control of Kshudra Mantras but under astrological cover and the latter mostly mathematical and partly basis on Mahamantras. In 1953 Shri Narayana Sastry handed over me the Nadi literature with a Mahamanta which I was cautioned should never be revealed to any on until and unless the instruction by way of a code word is revealed in nadi itself. The late Justice Ramesam Pantulu had such a work in his possession In my meeting with him he gave some details about Nadi Amshas but the secret of interpretation was not revealed just because the code word was never appeared in the grantha. Before his death, however, he came across the code word according to which the nadi should be thrown into the sea which he did. The rational continues to be a mystery. Perhaps the original authors did not want the secrets fall into unscrupulous hands. Moneymaking was never their object. Upon the division of Nadi Amsha and its being tagged on to the positions of Jupiter, Saturn, Sun, and Moon it is mathematics. But when the amsha in a particular lagna is to be interpreted, something other than mere astrological precept becomes involved. It is only after the recitation of the clue mantra at this stage, for the prescribed number of times that the results come more or less as a flash. Of course each nadi has certain definite results, as earlier serialized in ‘The Astrological Magazine’, but in applying these results to an undivided horoscope the Sun, the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter and other planets enter the picture. The Amsha is tagged on to the amsas of the other planets also and automatically the astrologer gets an image of the horoscope. I use the Nadi techniques only for purpose of rectifying the time of birth on the basis of the amsha and some identifying facts. The dasha system followed and of course Vimshothari though sometimes vague references are made to Jaimini and Kalachakra. To me Markandeya Nadi, Madras gave 60% correct results, in 1935. Shri Gupta in Madras got many Nadis – Sukra Nadi etc. Total number of Nadi are 72, out of which 36 are mantra Nadis such as Sukra Nadi, Nandi Nadi etc. which are only 25% correct. Mantra Nadi are written then and there. There are 36 Tantra Nadis such as Rudra, Sapta rishi, Brughu, Satya etc. Busantari Nadi gives about earthquakes, political set-up, available with Shri Nadis in Tamil. There are 36 Prasna Nadis and by using beetle nuts, beetle leaves Dakshina, answers are given. They conceal some mystery to astrologer, Shri Nagaraja Sharma Astrologer tried to find out the source of tantra nadi and found nadi contains 150 parts. Egoistic nature will not give results. One Nadi astrologer by Kshudra Ganapati Mantra died of cancer. By nadi astrologer reading, past will be correct and future wrong. From Oriental Library and Shri Nagaraja Sarma, each degree is divided into 150 nadi amsas and the position of lagna, nadi amsha, Moon Saturn, Jupiter will give clues. Integrate Parasara+Jamini+Nadi Varahamihira says that astrologer should have no hatred , should have contentment, ever joyful and satisfied well-versed in calculations (computers are there now ) gift of having predictions, imagination, morality, ethics, principled. Don’t predict death know Satyacharya’s (Dhruva Nadi author) Pancha Siddhantha. Practice Mahamantras not Kshudra mantras to get mind clarity. Taking Shantis (remedial measures) is wrong to get money. Script in Kannada language on palm leaves immediately within seconds and then disappeared actually there was Ramayana, Bharatam on palm leaves earlier. I contested many scientists and told them Astrology is not superstition”

My Guru, Late Shri Divakaruni Venkata Subba Rao, write his book “Jyotish Siddhantam” in Telugu language (out of print) about Tatwa/Antartatwa iddhantam to rectify the birth time to match the lagna, moon rasi day of birth for male/female birth amounting to a minimum level of 12 seconds duration of birth time difference which is equipment to Nadi Amsha. Then only the detailed life pattern can be predicted with the actual planetary configuration and with the other Vargas (divisional) charts.

Late Shri R.Gopalakrishna Rao (nick name Meena) suggested starlords (jeeva planets) of the planets, gunas of planets (Satwik, Rajasik and Tamasik), Sareera of Planets (Star lord of Jeeva Planets), Lordships, relationships in his book Nadi Astrology (Stellar Astrology) 3 volumes (out of print). He stated that “in South India, great men with deep insight into the knowledge of planets and Heaven, were able to cast various astrological charts which form the essence of the Nadi Granthas. Some may say that even the Nadis fail to give correct predictions. But I can boldly say that the Nadis need fail. The person, using the Nadis fails, because correct prediction depends on the accuracy of the questioner’s birth chart in the Granthas. If a clever astrologer who is in possession of the nadi could get at the proper chart he can read accurate predictions. The method that I have pursued and which I have presented in the pages of the book, is an ancient one. It has hitherto been kept confidential without being brought to light., The authors of this method have recorded Nadis on palm leaves. What was possible to Sages is equally possible to those who take pains to investigate and understand the science correctly by the method herein revealed.

In the “Bhrugu Nandi Nadi” book by Shri R.G.Rao, the karakatwa of the planets and rasis are given importance and Jupiter transits in the houses and over planets will decide events. Lagna is not important. The sequence of planets in the chart is important to be noted to give predictions. The natal chart combinations and transits are to be judiciously understood along with effects of retrograde planets and parivartana planets.

In “Chandra kala Nadi” books 3 volumes by Late Shri R.Santhanam, transits of a planet in various Navamshas with respect to its lordship and benefic and malefic Navamsha are given importance.

In “Sapta Rishi Nadi” book by oriental Library Chennai the rashi chart is only considered and the depositor of the planets is considered. Lagnawise some ready made charts are discussed for various aspects of life for some lagnas only.

In “The Astrological Magazine” the general life patterns of some of the Nadi Amshas from Dhruva Nadi were published

My friend Mr.Barry Pittard of Australia, sends email to me stating ” I have found repeated evidence – both in my explorations at first hand and from sending out well over two thousand emails to people who could possibly help many accurate details can be discovered about one self. In 1998 Shanti (new my wife) and I explored nadi readings at Libraries at Vaitheeswarankoil and therefore shortly able, I also visited a library at Chennai. Yet again, I found stunningly accurate information. Moreover it too corresponded with informed them from both the Vaitheeswaran koil and Tanjore Libraries. We found our names and family details including our parents names. He also said that they got the thumbprints of his wife’s parents by fax from Australia and the readings were incredibly accurate about them.

Shri K.N.Rao in his article “Thumb and Horoscope” mentioned “while in Calcutta, I heard of about an astrologer near Dumdum who prepared horoscopes in all cases of unknown births from one’s thumb I never met him. Through a very senior Guru Bhai who knew him well and patronized, I sent him a request if he would prepare the horoscopes of those whose birth details were well known and made it clear that it was not to test him but to know how dependable his method was. I further clarified that I would like to use it for the verification of birth time in cases of doubtful horoscopes. I sent five persons to him. In three cases he gave us correct degrees of all planets and the lagna. He was not given any birth details. He drew out the whole horoscope from the palm particularly of the thumb. The most remarkable fact which showed have struck me was that the degrees of the planets he gave from the palm and thumb was what Lahiri’s ephemeris had given to me . he used the work Chitrapaksheeya Ayamsha”. Sri K.N.Rao published the readings about him from Dhruva Nadi given to him by Dr.B.V.Raman in one of his books.

Shri Kannan in his article “My experiences with Nadis -X 1″ in the Astrological Magazine” June 1969 stated “Thus, after investigating all types of nadis what I have learnt is as noted below:- Nadis have been written on the basis of nadi-amshas, but they require alterations based on the localities and planetary positions. Nadi writer wrote horoscopes upto certain future periods only for each. That is why some nadis appear and some disappear if any querent funds no leaf for hi, it is due to the fact that bundles written must have destroyed by nadi holders of the past or otherwise lost by the successors. Apart from this kind of loss, some persons may not be in the scheme of a particular nadi at all and hence there may not be a leaf. For instance, in my case, according to Sukhar’s scheme, I should have had 6 children but I had 8. The last two had no leaves in Sukha Nadi. When questioned about this in Prasna Kanda, it was stated that there was nothing to be worried about their longevity and the scheme of Rishi Vakyam was only like that. Somehow I got the readings for them in some other nadi. Nadis generally have some stock method of giving predictions without bothering and without meticulous calculations. Most of the good nadis have mastery over the subject and have a good sense of judgement taking into account all the good and bad points. Astrologers usually linger or persist in a particular view. Regarding prescription of medicine, the nadis follow Ayurvedic system for the known ailments without resorting to particular herb for a particular afflicting planet. A nadi is able to find out not only the querent’s thought but also the e exact time of consultation. In my case Sukhar stated when I exactly consulted each bhava or vakyam. Though cent percent results cannot be expected, nadi gives some correct predictions also and these depend upon the quality of the nadi consulted. If a nadi stipulates a fabulous figure of fees it has to be understood that it is the mischief of the astrologer. All the nadi invariably prescribe shantis (whether warranted or not because every one will have some defect or other in the horoscope. This is ruse for getting money. One has to investigate the reasonableness of it before adopting. Very good predictions can be expected from a prasna nadi for the immediate future. But long range predictions fail mostly, probably because they could not check up correctly all the relevant positions. In the matter of daily prasnas, the nadis seem to have followed only ” Nandi Vakyam” method of giving results based on planetary position and not on Stellar basis. In the matter of judgement one h as to give importance to the position of the dispositor from the Bhava which seems to act best. The nadis have got always some curse as Mr.Chidambara Iyer expressed and it is found most of the nadi holders have to experience difficulties and calamities. There seem to be law connecting the particular time of writing a nadi and the next time of consultation. This is the most secret method to be investigated. For instance, Sukar’s Prasna Kanda was written long ago. When the nadi holder opens at random a leaf his eyes fall on a letter which furnishes information about the person consulting that day. What is that law? Can any body demonstrate ? At any rate these are all mysterious to me. With these I close these series and if anybody has any tangible information to unravel the mysteries pointed out, it will certainly be useful to all. 52. Of course, there are others who say that the thumb impression is used only as identification and to impress you. And the reader would find out from you the birth details by his clever random type of question s and remembering the answers and then arriving at the exact details make the chart from their ephemeris for that date of birth in their library room, read the results from standard charts recorded in ancient times matching your , lagna etc and the whole thing was a manipulation. There are some others who say that they consulted all nadis but did not find their leaf and felt that the whole thing was a hoax. Some others say that there are lot of cheating nowadays in how they operate it and they are people monitoring behind the screen in other room listening to you and there is no nadi reader live in India today just try giving a thumb he will be able to find the details some others say that the readings for foreigners have been exploited .from other leaves some say that the nadi readers would invoke a “spirit” which would smell the thumb print and tell them what Index leaves are to be picked up, which are only some old recorded life patterns and as he turns leaf after leaf while questioning as usual routine process the spirit would tell him at certain stage to read the correct date though it won’t be there on that leaf. Some say that time of birth and lagna are given by nadi reader which has not matched when checked on computer later. Every one had different experiences with the nadi Jyotish. It would be difficult to record all the experiences in this limited space.

Some Doubts And Questions

In view of the above discussions, several doubts and questions which arise on Nadi Jyotish are consolidated here as far as possible at random:- What is the real origin of this Nadi Jyotish?
Are they really written by some Sages and only by professional astrologers?
Are they the records of those born in earlier written on palm leaves in those times?
Why a right thumb impression for male and left for female is to be taken?
In what language they were written originally?
When were they translated into other languages?
How many bundles of leaves are available in total?
Is each set of leaves after some name of Nadi Jyotish is different ?
Is there really anything written on the leaves at all or something appear then and there?
Is there any Mantra or some other means used by the Nadi astrologers?
Is there any specific science written to get the birth chart and birth data from< the thumb impressions?
How the exact names can be told?
What is the procedure followed by the nadi reader to pick up the index leaves from his library from thumb impression?
How is it on some leaves only some type of funny pattern of lines was written without any normal language form of script ?
How is it that some type of Tamil script found on the leaves could not be understood?
Why do the readers give the future readings from the date of consultation only at some intervals of age only?
Why do they not give the occurrence of past events age wise generally?
How do they give the names of foreigners also sometimes?
Is there any privacy issue?
Why do some readers ask y u to come again?
Which collections are considered largest and carefully reserved etc?
Which nadi readers are held reliable?
How the small place in Tamilnadu,Vaitheeswaran koil has got different readers
even in small houses offering readers.?
Are there leaves were distributed amongst members of that family for their
different businesses charging different fees?
What is the material and sole of the leaf and and how they have preserved so
long?
Are they rewritten at different intervals of time?
How are they trained and how long?
How the leaves are with mostly a particular sect of people who are doing business from them?
How do they link up the index leaf with the actual leaf of general Kandam and other chapters of?
How can some readers say that such and such person is going to consult on that day?
Do the readings for the same person from different Nadis match exactly?
Do the readings for the same person from the same nadi reader from the same nadi taken at different interval of time say a year later match exactly?
Are you really to be destined to consult Nadi?
How many consult Nadi?
Are the past readings given always perfectly correct ?
How far the future reading goes perfectly right upto what time to nearby future or to long future also?
Do the reader himself involved in giving correct readings, includes his training
and experience?
Why do the remedial measures given in Shanti Kanda mostly refer to the
Gods/Goddess /Temples in Tamilnadu?
Why do they prescribe the alms to be given to the nadi reader and is it really
written on the leaves ?
Are they actually reading what was written on the leaves ?
Why are some of them in some form of trance with half closed eyes as if they are
not reading it from the leaves at all?
Why don’t nadi readers give your leaf to you, if it really belongs to y u?
Can you read what is written there?
Will they show it you?
How many readings are there on each leaf?
How many index bundles are normally to be scanned to arrive at your data?
How many leaves are there in each bundle?
Do they read without thumb impression, if the chart is given ?
Are the previous life readings given in different Nadis for the same person
would be the same?
Is there any luck in the leaves from the previous life to the present life to
the future life ?
How far the remedial measures given work?
Why do every nadi reader prescribe shanti definitely for every person whenever
consulted?
Why do the chart given by them differ from the one prepared by you in computers?
Is their ephemeris from Vakya Siddhanta as told different from others and how
far is it correct?
Why do they tell the firth date, month and year in Tamil calendar and then
correlate it Christian calendar, is it because the records were in Tamil ?
If the records were in Sanskrit or Telugu language, how are the birth data found in which calendar?
Why are the readings are only at intervals of 1 year or 2 ½ hrs etc ?
Are they following only the transits of major planets of Jupiter Saturn etc?
Why do they give readings of future events only age wise, not at a particular
calendar date, month and year ?
Do they know astrology at all?
Do they tell the exact names of twins , if the thumbprints are given ?
Do they give the readings without the presence of the person consulting and with the date presented by some person?
Do they give the reading by post if the required data is given and fees sent?
How far they take the responsibility if the future readings given by them do not
come true and what excuse do they give in such cases ?
Is whole thing a foax only?
Is there cheating by them?
Are there any real astrological principles involved in those Nadis?
Why do they charge exorbitantly which many poor people cannot afford?
Do poor people are distend to consult them?
Is it worth spending lot of money in finding out the tricks of this nadi
astrology?
Is it possible to do any research at all in this filed?
Are there any Nadis with some Swamijis or in some Ashram or with some other
persons who are not using it for professional commercial purposes and give
readings when consulted?
Are there any Nadis published fully, if so in what language?
Why do some astrologers, who have got nadi Grantha not publish it completely in a book form?
Are there other aspects natural calamities, political set ups wars, countries etc written also nadi granthas other than about persons and if so why don’t they publish it before hand?
Are these Nadis written restricted to certain regions only, if so within how many kilometers /miles and within what longitudes and latitudes?
Is there any law, which is given in the Nadis to extend it other persons and other regions?
How can a few bundles of leaves ,however large they re cover all life patterns of all persons?
What the addresses of all the nadi readers?
Are there any persons who are really doing any genuine serious research to find out the secrets of the nadi Jyotish if so what are their addresses and what are their findings so far, have they published their research anywhere?
Are there any persons who are exchanging their experience and research with each in this field and if so what are their addresses?
Are there any persons who had consulted all Nadis about them personalities and published their readings comparing and verifying the results if so what are their addresses?
Why can’t the nadi readers tell the exact names of the wife/husband before marriage, but can tell the e names of after marriage?
Why can’t they tell the names of the children when they can tell your name, your wife/husband name and names of parents?
Is there any danger or calamity or curse or those who possess these nadi granthas and to their families when they practice it?
How did Sage Satyacharya, supposed to be inventor of nadi amshas of 150 write the general life patterns for each nadi amsha and to what percentage they match with a person’s life pattern, if the person birth amsha falls in one of the nadi amshas or is it that the person should select the nearest nadi amsha pattern which matches with most of his life events and if it is to be chosen for a newly born baby who has not much specific events to check then how to fix up the nadi amsha?
Is there any method, if at all any, to draw the nadi amsha chart just as other Vargas (divisional) charts and if so how to prepare such a nadi chart and how to use it vis-à-vis rasi and other Vargas charts (though it is not mostly known how to use the known Vargas charts themselves specifically for a particular event in life!)
Which are the mantra Nadis , the tantra Nadis, prasna Nadis etc and what are the differences and how do they operate?
Where are we now in our research on nadi Jyotish in finding out the secrets, when they have existing from so many years?
Are there any specific astrological principles used in nadi Jyotish literature other than normal principles enunciated in standard ancient text books by sage Parasara, Jaimini,Varahamihira, Mantreswara, Vidyanatha, Kalidasa, Venkatesdaivagna, Bhaskara Jyotish, Bhruhatjataka, Phaladeepika , Jatakaparijata, Uttara Kalamithra, Sarvartha Chinthamani, Bhavadeepika, Sanketanidhi, Saravali etc ?
Do the nadi readers allow to record all the questions they ask as they proceed
with the index leaves and is there any person who got such recorded data in his personal case and if what is his address?
How can the Nadi Reader tell that your parents are alive when y you consult him when they are alive and tell that they are dead when you consult him after their death and can such a thing can be told from applying normal astrological principles?
Similarly how can h e tell the exact number of brothers and sisters and at age you were married etc and can these can be told so precisely from any normal astrological rules?
Will all the Nadis give the e life span for a person or different life spans, when the names and chart and other past details match exactly in all Nadis ?
Why some Nadis mention certain age as “Gandam” (danger to life) and if it is surpassed the person would live upto certain other age ?

Though one can try to find out answers to all the above questions I feel
that further important research required to be carried out in nadi astrology
should be concentrated on the following points:-

Whether a complete Natural Birth chart with planetary positions and lagna with
exact degrees and birth data can be formed from the thumb impression?
Why a right hand thumb impression for male and left hand thumb print for female
should be taken?
What is the technique used by Nadi Readers to pick up the Index leaves bundles from the thumb print and subsequent Kandam leaves?
What are the scripts written on the leaves?
Whether the Nadi Readers reads the same thing on the leaf?
Whether we or the experts in linguistics can read the same and understand?
Whether there is any script at all in the leaves?
Can we record what all he reads and questions leaf after leaf till he arrives at
our data in the index leaves?
Whether he writes the same thing in the notebook, records in the audiotape and translates?
Do the leaves contain some old records of life histories of persons written in
olden days for certain planetary configurations for research for future cycles
and if so how to modify the results for the present consultant’s chart which and could be only a nearby chart since it takes very long time to get to the same planetary configuration again?
How one can tell exact names, numbers of brothers and sisters with help of a
chart even with exact degrees of planets and lagna?
Can we get our leaf from the Nadi readers and even if so will it be of any use?
Whether the same nadi reader from same nadi grantha gives same results when
consulted at different time intervals, say one year?
Why the nadi readers gives results age-wise only for events, not particular
dates?
Would they use mostly the transits of major planets on the natal chart to tell
events?
Would different readers of same nadi give different results?
Would different Nadis give different results?
Why the remedial measures (Shantis) are prescribed for every one whether
consulted at any time, why they are mostly connected to Temples/Gods/Goddesses
in Tamilnadu only, whether they work at all to overcome the difficulties read
in the leaves or is at another gimmick of the nadi reading to get money from the person consulted by invoking fear and faith into him?
Why not collect as much data as possible from persons who consulted nadi along with their experiences about the veracity of the future predictions?
Is it possible to find how the past life data is given by nadi readers and check
the same?
Is there any method to link the past life data with the present and future
readings?
Which nadi and nadi reader is giving more accurate results?
Is there any way to arrive at nadi astrologers principles in correlation with
the normal standard astrology , as given in the palm leaves by the nadi readers
or is the whole thing a process of hoax using some Upasana of spirits or Mantra
by the nadi readers?
What percentage of correct results would come from nadi readers compared to the readings from well-experienced sincere normal astrologers?
Can one can erect a nadi amsha chart (1/150) and use it for exact predictions
along with other Vargas charts?
Can one find out how the general life pattern is given for each nadi amsha?
Whether anybody consulted the same nadi at same place or at different places at same time read by different nadi readers and what are the results?
Whether anybody consulted the same nadi at same place read by the same person at different times say a year later and what are the results and are they same particularly with respect to the future events?
Whether anybody got the results without knowing the birth date/month/year/lagna/Moon rasi and nakshatra/chart and if so how?
Whether anybody got the exact name of wife / husband before marriage?
Whether anybody got future results every year or only at intervals of 2 to 3
years or at some random future ages?
Whether anybody got the same life span (age) mentioned in different nadis?
Whether anybody got the same life span (age) mentioned in different nadis?
Whether anybody got the future result about the birth of a child male or female
specifically?
Whether any astrologer could succeed so far in analyzing the results given by
nadi as per the known astrological rules?(ask astrologers)?
How many are visiting the nadis and getting results also not finding their nadi
leaves.(ask nadi readers)?
What would be the percentage of people consulting nasi?
Whether anybody recorded the various questions asked by the nadi reader leaf
after leaf in the index bundles till he hits the correct one with exact names number of brothers and sisters etc?

Conclusion

I have discussed many important points on nadi Jyotish as far as possible
due to restriction of space from my experience. It is farther for the readers and experienced astrologers to get into real research into the mysteries of this nadi jyothish. Since this research would be very long time process involving lot of expenses, it will not be possible for any single individual to carryout this research. I earnestly request all serious research astrologers to come together exchanging their information freely on this subject, which is very easy now a days because of inter-net and E-mails. I also request the rich individuals, trusts, government, private agencies, Swamis, Ashrams help financially for this research. I pray God also to help all these astrology research aspirants to unveil the secrets of this ancient Nadi Jyotish uplifting the Vedic astrology for the benefit of world community. Jeeva And Sharira Of Grahas

Consciousness and Activity of Planets

On the gross level, jeeva is the soul and sharira is the body. On the subtle level, jeeva can be considered as consciousness and sharira can be taken as activity.

How do we know the jeeva and sharira of a planet? There are twelve rashis (signs) and twenty-seven nakshatras (constellations) in Hindu/Vedic astrology. The nine planets are deposited in any rashi and the corresponding nakshatras, which have planets as their lords. You can learn the details about rashis, names of nakshatras, nakshatra padas and the distribution of nakshatras and their padas in the rashis and their lordships in any basic book on Hindu/Vedic astrology.

Suppose a planet is in a particular nakshatra. The lord of that nakshatra will be the the jeeva of that planet. If the planet Guru (Jupiter) is in the nakshatra of Mangal (Mars), then Mangal will be the jeeva of Guru. Now we have to check which nakshtra the jeeva planet is deposited in and what is the lord of that nakshatra. Then that lord will be the sharira of the planet. Now we have seen that Mangal is the jeeva of Guru. If Mangal is in the Ketu  (Dragon’s Tail) nakshatra, then Ketu will be the sharira of Guru.

Examples

For example, if Guru is in the nakshatra of Guru that is its own nakshatra then Guru will be the jeeva of Guru. Normally Guru will be the sharira also, but here the rule for finding the sharira planet is slightly different. If the jeeva planet is in its own souse, then only the jeeva planet will be the sharira planet. If Guru is in its own nakshatra and also its own house, then only Guru will be jeeva and sharira also. For example, if Guru is in the the nakshatra of Pooravabhadra fourth pada, then Guru is in its own nakshatra and its own house Meena (Pisces). If Guru is in the house of some other planet, though in its own nakshatra, then the lord of that house will be sharira. For example, if Guru is in the nakshatra of Punarvasu third pada, it is in its own nakshatra. But it is not in its own house; it is in Midhuna (Gemini), the house of Budha (Mercury). Then Budha will be the sharira of Guru. If Guru is in the same Punarvasu nakshatra but in the fourth pada, it is Kataka (Cancer)  in the house of Chandra (Moon), Then Chandra is the sharira
of Guru.

In another example, consider Chandra in Makara (Capricorn)  rashi in the nakshatra of Shravana. Then Chandra is in its own nakshatra so Chandra is the jeeva. But Chandra is not Sharira. Sharira planet is Shani (Saturn) since Chandra is in the house of Shani.

Jeeva for a planet is the lord of the nakshatra and the sharira for the planet is the lord of the nakshatra of jeeva or the lord of the house of the planet. What is the use of knowing the jeeva and sharira of the planets?

Jeeva is the consciousness and sharira is activity. A planet’s consciousness is known from the characteristics of the jeeva planet and its activity is known from the characteristics of the sharira planet. If the characteristics of the jeeva and sharira planets are not in tune with the planet’s nature and of a contradictory nature, the planet’s consciousness and activity will clash and the planet will not be able to give its results in its own natural way.

Planetary Relationships

Planets have a relationship between them as friend, enemy or neutral. In general, the planets Guru (Jupiter), Surya (Sun), Chandra (Moon)  and Mangal (Mars) belong to one group and the planets Shani (Shani), Shukra (Venus), Budha (Mercury), Rahu (Dragon’s head)  and Ketu (Dragon’s tail)  belong to another group. The planets in the same group are friends with each other. The planets in one group are enemies to the planets in the other group. Of course, there are some exceptions and some are
neutral. For example, for Surya, Guru is a friend and Shukra is the enemy. Similarly, for Shukra, Shani is the friend and Surya is the enemy. Planets have certain gunas or natures. The different gunas are Satwik, Rajasik and Tamasik, In general, Satwik is of pure nature, Rajasik is of restless nature and Tamasik is of dull or aggressive nature.

In general, the lordship of the first, second, fourth, fifth, seventh, ninth and tenth bhavas is good and lordships of the third, sixth, eighth, eleventh and twelfth bhavas is bad.

Now, let’s see how the jeeva and sharira would affect the performance of a planet. Guru is a Satwik planet, that of pure nature. If it is in its own nakshatra and house, the jeeva and sharira also would be Guru. That means Guru will have the pure consciousness and its activity would also be pure in nature. There is no obstruction or contradiction in its consciousness and activity. Therefore, such a Guru would generally be able to discharge its duties smoothly without clashes /obstructions and would give whatever results it is supposed to give for the horoscope depending on its placement, lordship, associations, aspects etc.

If Guru is in its own nakshatra Visakha fourth pada in Vrischik (Scorpio) rashi, then the jeeva is Guru but the sharira is Mangal (lord of Vrischik). Here Mangal is a Tamasik planet, though a friend of Guru. Therefore the consciousness of Guru is of pure nature but the activity will be of aggressive nature. There is a little clash between consciousness between consciousness and activity.

In such a situation the activity will not go in tune with the consciousness and the planet will not give its natural results to full extent. In addition if the lordships of jeeva and sharira planets for a particular lagna are also not in tune with the planet, the results will not come out fruitfully.

An example will explain the situation. There is a cake on the table which, from previous experience, your mouth wants to eat. But the consciousness tells you not to do so because you are diabetic. But the hand, the Karmendriya, may or may not listen to the consciousness. If the jeeva and sharira are in tune with each other, you will not eat it, but if they are not in tune, you will eat it. This is an example of involuntary action against the wish of consciousness.

Another example has Guru’s jeeva as Rahu and sharira is again Guru. That means Guru is the in the nakshatra of Rahu and Rahu is in the nakshatra of Guru. This is called nakshatra parivartana (exchange). This Guru’s consciousness is Tamasik and the activity is of a pure nature. There is a clash between consciousness and activity, but this Guru although having an aggressive and materialistic consciousness, will try to act with purity considering all the pros and cons of the situation of the activity to be undertaken according to its role in the horoscope.

If Guru’s jeeva is Shukra and sharira is Rahu, the consciousness is of a restless nature and on the activity side it is in the the hands of Tamasik Rahu, resulting in either rash or dull activity. This situation also will restrict Guru in showing its natural purity.

 

Lordship Of Jeeva And Sharira

The lordship of the jeeva and sharira planets will restrict or limit the consciousness and activity of the planets. For example, if Guru for Mesha (Aries) lagna is in Dhanur (Sagittarius) rashi in the Poorvashada nakshatra, it is in its own house and in the nakshatra of Shukra, its enemy. Shukra is the second and seventh lord for Mesha lagna and is malefic, so the jeeva of Guru is Shukra, which is against Guru. The consciousness of Guru becomes negative and Rajasik. If this Shukra is in Budha nakshatra, Budha is a friend to Shukra and an enemy to Guru. Budha is the third and sixth lord for Mesha lagna and is malefic, so the sharira of Guru is Budha, which against Guru. The activity of Guru is also restricted and obstructed. Such a Guru will not be able to give spiritual upliftment as expected.

If the same Guru is in the Uttarashada nakshatra, it will be in nakshatra of Surya, the lord of fifth house for Mesha lagna and friend of Guru. If this Surya is in the Chandra nakshatra, Chandra will be the sharira of Guru. Here the situation of Guru is good with Surya as jeeva as fifth lord and Chandra a sharira as fourth lord. Such a Guru can be expected to give rise to spiritual progress.

Astrology And Human Life

The following article was published in “The Times of Astrology” magazine, July 1999, New Delhi, India.

The Universe contains an infinite number of solar systems, many very much greater than our own.  As we realize this, our vision will widen, our minds expand, and our hearts become filled with wonder and reverence for that Great Supreme and Unknowable power that is the primary cause of all the glory that fills space.  But no amount of speculation concerning other solar system can reveal the true state of things in the broad expanse of the heavens.  It therefore becomes more profitable to us at our present stage to confine  our attention to the Solar system of which we form a par, leaving the fixed stars with their immense distances and magnitude out of our consideration.  If we expand our imagination and think of our Sun as being in the center of an enormous circle, extending millions of miles into space and embracing the whole system we might begin to realize what the conference of a solar systems means.  The whole solar system was a vast heated nebulous mass which cooling down threw of huge portion which finally become planets or worlds, forming a complete planetary System revolving round the sun.

Astrology gives knowledge of the celestial bodies, their magnitudes, motions, distances, periods sizes, weight, order etc.

Astrology is a unique method of interpretation of the correlation of planetary influence.  This impresses that there is a constantly moving relationship between the very large moving objects of the universe such as the sun, moon, and planets and the small moving objects, such as human beings and animals.

The question of the scientific origin of astrological knowledge has been the subject of controversy.  Modern scientists have not hesitated to brand Astrology as superstition, and even its kindest critics refer to it as a pseudo science.  The definition of “Science” will be found to be similar to the following:

A knowledge of facts, laws and proximate causes, gained and verified by exact observation and correct thinking, also, the Sun of Universal knowledge an exact and systematic statement or classification knowledge concerning some subject or group of subject or any department of knowledge in which the results of investigation have been systematized.

If this were a correct definition of Science then indeed is Astrology the greatest of all sciences, its percepts and formula were accumulated and established over a period of thousands of years of observations by men. Astrology is the oldest of all sciences.  It is the real Science of the Stars.  It is a science of all sciences, the key to all knowledge.  It includes in its various ramifications such modern sciences as Astrology Medicine, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and many others.

The first principle upon which the Science of Astrology rests is that the whole universe is actually what the term implies a unity and that a law which if found in manifestation in one portion of the universe must also be equally operative throughout the whole.  The consequent to this major premise is that our own solar system being itself a complete whole, those laws which are operative among the major constituents of that system, viz., the planetary bodies, are also in force among the lesser components of the same system to with ourselves and the other objects on this earth, whether solid, fluid or gaseous whether human animal, vegetable or mineral.

The second principle is that by a study of the motions and relative positions of the planets the operations of these laws may be observed measured and determined. From these two first principles, aided by present day observation and a mind capable of metaphysical grasp of the metaphysical significance of phenomena, the whole science of Astrology can be deduced.  It is a mistake far too prevalent even among thoughtful and unprejudiced people to suppose that the present interest in Astrology is merely the decadent revival of an ancient superstition, based entirely on accepted tradition.

Nevertheless since truth is the same in all times, the learning of the ancients is of the greatest value to the modern student modern student. Indeed, the astrologers who had to depend entirely on the two first principles given above would certainly have a Herculean task before him of observation, tabulation and intelligently applies its principles.

The claims of astrology are, that it offers first and foremost a means of general character study entirely surpassing the combined advantages of ordinary astrological methods, being at once more comprehensive and more subtle.  Secondly and this is preeminently its greatest, its divine use, a means for the unbiased examinations of ones own character and the most effective means of strengthening it.  Thirdly a knowledge of times and seasons appropriate for certain works, and a means of testing ones development of character.  Lastly means of forecasting future events.

It is true that  Astrological Science in all its implications extends into deep and far-reaching metaphysical and philosophical domains, but after all what science does not? The mathematical concepts of great scientists like Einstein have already crossed the border from the domains of fixed form, and materialistic limitation into so called fourth dimensional territories.  Why should scientists therefore scoff at the implications contained Astrology?

Astrology while embracing all other sciences was divided by the ancient scientists into main sections.

  • That which dealt with the observations and recording of the relative positions and motions of the celestial bodies in time.
  • That which dealt with the observation and recording the correspondence between these positions and
    • Natural phenomena occurring on the earth, such as weather, trees, earth quakes floods, volcanic eruptions, growth and evolution of plant and animal life.
    • Human psychological phenomena such as love, hate, envy, jealousy, the sex urge, avarice and the physical actions resulting from these emotional states such as mating murder, robbery plunder rape combats and wars.

Of these two divisions of Astrological scientific research that which dealt with the mere observance of the relative motions of the celestial bodies astronomy was considered as incidental.  It was a step the first step toward the acquisition of the real knowledge the only which really mattered the knowledge of man, h is origin and his destiny.  The first division/Astrology is recognized today as a science, because modern scientists with aid of modern mechanical devices continued and extended the observations of the ancient start scientists.  The second division is not so recognized simply because on account of rank prejudice and skepticism it has been ignored almost completely by present day scientists who have made no attempt whatever to study it and rationalize it and yet there is no logical reason for this. Certainly there are a few well known facts occurring in nature and falling within the scope of the second division of astrological knowledge, which would conform the other finds of the ancient scientists.  Of these natural facts there are
