Lagna and Moon Rashis of Couples

The aim of this aticle is to present some rules to find out the lagna and Moon rashi of the wife from husband’s horoscope and to find our husband’s lagna and Moon rashi from wife’s horoscope and to validate the rules with some known reliable horoscopes of the couples.

RULES

The rules are taken from the book “Kalatra Bhava” written in Telugu language by my Guru DaivagnaRatna & VidyaVisarada late Shri Divakaruni Venkata Subbarao, published in November 1970. The book is out of print now.I have freely translated the rules into English as  it is and added a few more rules to fit in the example horoscopes.

The rules from the book are as follows:

Wife’s lagna from husband’s horoscope:
  • Wife’s janma lagna is generally the rashi where the 7th lord is placed or 7th lord’s exaltation/debilitation rashis or the Kona ( 5th or 9th) rashi from the 7th lord navamsha rashi or husband’s lagna or husband’a Moon rashi or husband’s 9th rashi or husband’s 9th rashi from Moon rashi
Wife’s Moon rashi from husband’s horoscope:
  • Husband’s lagna lord or 7th lord or Moon rashi lord placement rashis or Konas ( 5th or 9th) to those rashis or their lords exaltation/ debilitation rashis
In another paragraph the rules are given again as below:
  • Wife’a rashi: 7th lord navamsha rasi lord’s rashi or 7th lord’s exaltation rashi or kalatra bhava navamsha rasi or Konas ( 5th or 9th)to above quoted rashis will be kalatra rashi. In case the kalatra janma rashi is other than the above rashis the couple may not have male children.
  • The native’s janma rashi or konas ( 5th or 9th) to those places or navamsha rasi or konas ( 5th or 9th) to it or lagna or navamsha lagna or konas ( 5ht 055 9y=th) to them or 7th bhava or its navamsha or their konas (5th or 9th), exaltation/debilitation rashis of lords of janma lagna or janma rashi or 7th lord, the place which comes by adding the Sputa bhagas of lagna lord and Venus or the place which comes by adding the sputa bhagas of places of lords of lagna lord placed rashi and 7th lord placed rashi. (In Sthree jataka if this pattern is followed the janma rashi of husband will be known
Additional Rules by me:
The following additional rules are framed by me to suit to some available horoscopes.
Husband /Wife lagna:
  • 5th or 9th rashi from where the 7th lord is placed or 5th or 9th rashi from where Moon rashi 7th lord is placed or 5th or 9th from where Moon rashi lord is placed or 5th or 9th rashi from rashi where 9th lord is placed or 7th lord navamsha rasi or 5th or 9th from 7th lord navamsha rasi or 7th lord rashi from Moon rashi

any explanations.Readers are requested to interpret the rules with their knowledge and experience and if necessary add few more additional rules with their available reliable data.
These rules will also help in selecting lagna and Moon rashi of a bride or bridegroom with suitable compatability points for matching horoscopes for marriage with suitable Dasas and Gochara.

Gochara

This is a short talk given by Pemmaraju VR Rayudu on the occasion of the 12th Annual meet of Andhra University Engineering college first batch (1955-59) on 26th Jan 2013 in Hyderabad

The birth chart is prepared showing the placements of planets in the different rashis depending on the date of birth, time of birth and place of birth. The planets would give results of the events during their running Dasas as per Dasa system. The timings of these several events both pleasant and unpleasant also depend on the daily, monthly and annual movements or transits of the several planets over the natal planets in the rashis of the birth chart. This is called “Gochara” which might have been derived from “ Graha Chara’ meaning “Planetary Movements”.

Saturn takes approximately 2 ½ years to move from one rashi to another rashi. Jupiter takes 1 year, Rahu and Ketu 1 ½ years, Sun Mercury Venus 1 month , Mars 1 ½ month and Moon2 ½ days.

Briefly, some on the Gochara planets movements over the planets in the birth chart are discussed and the major planets Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu & Ketu movements are important as they are of long duration. Each planet has got certain significations such as Sun represents father, government etc, Moon mother movements mind etc, Mars brother enemy etc, Mercury maternal uncle, education lands etc, Jupiter respect teacher etc, Venus wife finance etc, Rahu Mohamedans, paternal grand- father, hallucinations etc, Ketu Christianity, salvation ( moksha) etc, and Saturn Professioin and Karma ( duty). These signification events are triggered whenever Gochara planet move over the natal planets in the birth chart. Generally Saturn Mars Sun Moon are enemies to each other and Jupiter Venus Mercury are friends. Accordingly either enemical/ unfovourable or friendly / favourable results will be experienced during the transits.

Whenever Saturn during Gochara transits over the natal rashi where Sun is located in the native’s birth chart, indicates uneasiness to the native’s father, hazards in professional field, disputes etc .Similar results can be expected when Sun during Gochara transits for one month over the natal rashi where Saturn is located in a native’s birth chart. Mars also give problems in professional fields and during Ketu transits the native may also seriously think of quitting his job. In Rahu’s transit over Saturn the native experiences uneasiness in performing duties.

There will be a change of place in professional field for the native when Moon transits over Saturn in a native’s birth chart. The native will have to face slight blame. There will be unnecessary expenditure of money. Mentally also there will be no peace to the native.

When Jupiter transits over Saturn in a native’s birth chart, the native will get promotion in the job. He will attain prestige in profession. But when Mars is located in the seventh zodiacal rashi from Saturn in the birth chart, during Jupiter’s transit over Saturn there will be obstruction from the enemies in his profession resulting in not getting it.

During the time when Mercury transits over Saturn in a native’s birth chart the native will experience beneficial effects in commercial transactions. There will be gain of lands to a slight extent and cooperation of friends.

Venus transits over Saturn in a native’s birth chart  then there will be financial gain to the native, celebration at home and improvement in the native’s debt position and financial accommodation from helpful friends.

When Saturn transits over the rashi behind Moon in the birth chart, over Moon rashi, and over next rashi from Moon, it is called the Sade Sathi Saturn or Elinati Sani, that is almost 7 ½ years total period with about 2 ½ years in each rashi. When Saturn transits over the 8th rashi counted from Moon rashi in birth chart, is is called Ashtama Sani and when Saturn transits in 4th rashi from Moon it is called Artha- Ashtama Sani. All these Saturn transits are generally malefic and bad giving mental depressions, disturbances, separations, ill-health, accidents etc.

When Jupiter transits over combination of Saturn plus Moon in the natal chart, the native will first get promotion followed by transfer and if Jupiter moves over first Moon and then Saturn in Moon plus Saturn combination in the natal birth chart , the native gets transfer first and then promotion.

Jupiter being the Guru of Devatas is a benefic planet and when Jupiter simultaneously transits over any bad transits, the ill-effects are likely to be reduced.

Saturn decides the fate and duties of the individuals born in this world and to what extent other planets cooperate with planet Saturn the different planetary combinations involving this planet in a native’s birth chart decide this.

Therefore it is important that transit effects of planets should be predicted after knowing the basic nature (Karakatwas or Significations) of the transiting planets.

Interpretation of Varga charts and Nadi chart

Introduction

The aim of this article is to find the link between the varga charts and nadi amshas and to prepare a nadi chart and interpret it vis-à-vis birth chart. Varga charts are Divisional charts of the birth chart, dividing into different parts. The divisions are 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6, 1/7, 1/8, 1/9, 1/10, 1/11, 1/12, 1/16, 1/20, 1/24, 1/27, 1/30, 1/40, 1/45, 1/60, 1/81, 1/108, 1/150. They are given nomenclature as D- charts as D-1 ( birth chart), D-2 (Hora), D-3 ( Drekkana), D-7 (Saptamsha), D-9 (Navamsha), D-10( Dashamsha) etc. Each of these varga charts represent a particular life aspect such as D-3 coborns, D-7 Children, D-9 partner, D-10 profession etc.

Nadi amsha is 1/150 division and its division chart is called nadi chart. Nadi amshas are of uniform duration or of non-uniform duration. Non-uniform nadi amshas are preferred since for change of each nadi amsha, one or more of the varga charts change, indicating a difference in life pattern of that particular varga chart. Rectification of birth time up to seconds is necessary since small changes in time would change the nadi amsha and nadi chart ,consequently change the varga charts showing a different life pattern.

Rectification of birth time.

The rectification of birth time is to be done as per Tatwa/ Antartatwa Siddhantha given by my Guru Late Shri DV Subbarao in his Telugu language book published in 1970 ( out of print now). I have published the English translation of this in the Times of Astrology magazine, New Delhi and also included in the Articles link in my website http://rayuduastrology.com/?p=150. Basically the method is based on selecting a particular time for male/ female birth depending on the particular lagna( ascendant) movable/ fixed/dual, Moon star, day of birth, tatwa etc. This method gives rectification upto 24 seconds. Readers are requested to refer to my article since it would be too big to include it here.

Varga charts

The methodology for preparation of various varga charts and the life aspects they represent are described in any standard astrology text book and they are easily given in many astrology software programmes.

Uniform Nadi Amshas

Nadi amsha is the 1/150 part of each rashi of 30 degrees. When uniformly divided, each nadi amsha would be 12 minutes in arc amounting to approximately 48 seconds in time. The 1st nadi amsha called Vasudha is from 00-00-00 to 00-12-00 and the 2nd nadi amsha called Vaishnavi is from 00-12-00 to 00-24-00 etc. The duration of D-60 chart is for 30 minutes in arc and for the 1st and 2nd uniform nadi amshas all the varga charts including the D-60 would be the same indicating same life patterns for two persons born in the different uniform nadi amshas. Hence it is not practical to consider uniform nadi amshas. The list of names and durations of uniform nadi amshas are given in the book Chandrakala Nadi by R.Santhanam published by Sagar Publications, New Delhi.

Non-uniform nadi amshas

The list of non-uniform nadi amshas names and durations for movable/ fixed/ dual rashis is given in the book Nadi Astrology by CS Patel published by Sagar Publications, New Delhi. It is not known how this list is prepared. For example the 1st nadi amsha called Vasudha is from 00-00-00 to 00-30-00 in movable rashis ( Aries,Cancer, Libra, Capricorn),  29-30-00 to 30-00-00 in fixed rashis( Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) and from 15-00-00 to 15-20-00 in dual rashis ( Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces) and the 2nd nadi amsha called Vaishnavi is from 00-30-00 to 00-40-00 in movable rashis, 29-20-00 to 29-30-00 in fixed rashis and from 15-20-00 to 15-30-00 in dual rashis. Since the 1st nadi amsha changes after 30 minutes arc and since the D-60 chart is for 30 minutes arc duration, when the 1st nadi amsha changes to 2nd, the D-60 chart changes showing different D-charts for two persons born in different nadi amshas. For example, for Aries rashi, for nadi no.1 from 00-00-00 to 00-30-00 all the varga charts including D-60 will be in Aries and when the nadi changes to nadi no.2 from 00-30-00 to 00-40-00, all the varga charts except D-60 will be in Aries and the D-60 changes to Taurus. The biggest nadi amsha is 00-30-00 amounting to about 2 minutes in time and the smallest nadi amsha is 00-01-40 amounting to about 7 seconds in time. Hence non-uniform nadi amshas are preferred. If the nadi amshas are further divided into four equal parts as indicated in Chandrakala Nadi book by R.Santhanam, the time interval may come to about 2 seconds and this is not discussed here and it can be taken up as a separate research project.

The list of the non-uniform nadi amshas is given in Table 1 in the Appendix.

In Aries, the variation of rashis in varga charts for each nadi number is given in Table 3. Similarly the tables for Taurus to Pisces can be prepared to see the variation of rashis in varga charts for each nadi number. The numbers 1 to 12 in the Table indicate Aries to Pisces respectively.

Nadi Chart

The methodology to prepare the nadi chart is given in my article Nadi chart published in the Times of Astrology magazine, New Delhi and also included in the link Articles-Nadi astrology- Nadi chart in my web site http://rayuduastrology.com/?p=205.

Readymade tables are given as Table 1 and Table 2 in the Appendix to prepare the nadi chart easily. Note down the longitude of lagna/ planet in the birth chart in movable/ fixed/ dual rashi. For that longitude find out the duration of nadi amsha, nadi name and nadi number from Table 1. For example if the longitude in birth chart of lagna in Aries

( movable rashi) is 03-07-34, then it falls in the nadi duration 03-00-00 to 03-20-00 in Table 1 with the name Kutila and nadi no.16. Then go to the Table 2, for this nadi number and name, under the birth chart rashi against the nadi number find the nadi chart rashi. For example, for nadi no. 16, under 1 (Aries), you find no.4 which is Cancer and place the lagna in Cancer in nadi chart. In the Table 2, the numbers 1 to 12 indicate

Aries to Pisces respectively. Similarly in the birth chart if Saturn is at 05-27-00 in Aquarius (fixed rashi), then see in Table1 that it falls in the nadi duration of 05-20-00 to 05-30-00 in the fixed column with the nadi name Ambuja and nadi number 124. Now go to Table 2, against nadi no.124, under no.11 which is Aquarius in birth chart, see no.12 which is Pisces and place Saturn in Pisces in nadi chart. Similarly for the longitudes of lagna and all the planets in the birth chart, a nadi chart can be prepared.

Interpretation of Varga charts & Nadi chart

The rules given by my Guru Late DV Subbarao in his Telugu language book published in 1970 can be followed for interpretation of varga charts. The main rule is that the lordships of houses should not be considered in varga charts. The placement of lagna lord in the varga chart is important. The placement, associations and aspects can be taken. The English translation of these rules are published in Saptarishi Astrology E-magazine in July 2012 with a title “16 secrets of varga charts” and can be seen in my website rayuduastrology.com also under my the link Articles. It is not repeated here for want of space. For example the placement of lagna lord / planet in 6th, 8tth or 12th house from lagna in the varga chart would not give good results for the life aspect represented by that varga. Since Nadi chart is also a varga chart of minutest division, the same rules are to be applied. The benefic/ malefic planets in the varga charts are to be found.

Nadi chart versus Birth chart

The Three “S” analogy of Seed, Soil, Season is applied to understand the link between the nadi chart and birth chart. If the Seed is good, even if the Soil &/ Season may not be good, still the plant may survive and give good results to some extent. If the Seed is bad, even if the Soil &/ Season are good, the results may not be good. If all the Seed, Soil & Season are good, the results would be very satisfactory. Here we consider the nadi chart as Seed since it is the minutest division, the birth chart with other varga charts as Soil and the Gochara ( transits) as Season. If a planet is malefic in the nadi chart, even if it is benefic in birth and varga charts and in Gochara, it may not produce good results. If a planet is benefic in the nadi chart, even if it is malefic in birth chart it may still give good results to some extent. If a planet is benefic in the nadi and birth & varga charts, it would give very good results during its Dasa periods. The benefic/ malefic analysis can be done qualitatively as per the placements, associations, aspects etc. to check how far the nadi chart would support the birth chart.

The benefic and malefic analysis of planets can be calculated quantitatively also as given in my book “ How to read a Horoscope- A Scientific model of predictions based on benefic and malefic analysis of planets and bhavas as per Hindu astrology” published by M/s Motilal Banarsidas Publishers, New Delhi.

Malefic analysis: if in natural malefic mars sign (1); if in association with functional enemy Saturn (1); if in association with natural malefic Saturn (1); total 3 points

Benefic 5+Malefic 3= 8 points

Benefic 62.5%; Malefic 37.5%

Though Jupiter is malefic in birth & Dasamsha charts, Jupiter is benefic in nadi chart. So Jupiter has given benefic results for profession in Jupiter dasa (period) from 24/1/1966 to 24/1/1981 such as promotions, position in profession etc

Similarly for Saturn in birth chart benefic 61.1%, malefic 38.9%; dashamsha chart benefic 45.45%, malefic 54.55%; nadi chart benefic 27.3%, malefic 72.7%.

Though Saturn is benefic in birth chart, Saturn is malefic in D-10 chart and nadi chart. So Saturn has not given benefic results for profession in Saturn dasa from 24/1/1982 to 24/1/2001 such as no promotions, no position, loss of job by voluntary retirement, professional worries etc.

If the nadi chart is not prepared and analyzed, it would have been inferred that Jupiter would give bad results and Saturn would give benefic results based on birth chart analysis.

Conclusion

This is only a research project for preparing and analyzing nadi chart and to study the variation of varga charts whenever a nadi amsha changes. It is not claimed that it is right .Readers and scholars are requested to further study it and improve this methodology.

Thanks to Mr.Kamesh Pemmaraju ( USA) and Mr,Shrinivas Gramopadhyaye

16 Rare Secrets of Varga Charts

Published in the E-Magazine of Saptarishi Astrology, Mumbai, India in July 2012

[First we must know the greatness of Mr Rayudu, his work on timing marriage to the year is supposed to be one of the finest ever (published in SA), then one must know the greatness of his Guru Late D V Subbarao, then only one would realize the greatness of this article. The out of print and just not available books of Late D V Subbarao has been the prized possession of many Telegu reading astrologers all over India, some of whom have extolled the below secrets of Varga charts as their own in the last few decades and heralded themselves as the Kings of Researches in Varga Charts without giving a single line of credit/hint to the Late D V Subbarao or Late Seshadiri Iyer. We here at SA bow to Mr Rayudu, who has finally conceded to our request of 4 years for a series of articles on his Gurus work. As someone rightly said ‘Knowledge when hidden becomes like stagnant water and turns poison, when released free with due credit only then it becomes moksha karaka.’ – SA Publisher]
I give below the free translation of the Rules for interpretation of Varga (Divisional) charts from the Telugu (South Indian Language) book published in April 1970 by my Guru Shri Late D.V.Subbarao.

1. Mars being in 6th bhava would be aspecting the ascendant and hence his 6th position is always good. Mercury in 8th bhava is always beneficial.

2. In any varga chart planets in kendras (1, 4, 7, 10 bhavas) and konas (1,5,9 bhavas) are beneficial. That means they give good results to the life aspect represented by that varga. If they are in 3rd, 6th, 8th, 12th bhavas they give malefic results.

3. Even if planets are in bad positions in bhava chart, if they are in good positions in varga chart from the ascendant they give benefic results to that varga. Even if the planets are strong in bhava chart, if they are placed in bad positions in varga chart they would not give benefic results and they will give bad results to the life aspect of that particular varga chart. The planets who are benefic both in bhava chart and varga charts would give very good results. Even if planets are strong and placed in bad places, if they are in good places in varga charts they give mostly good results only. Even if planets are strong and placed in good positions in bhava chart, if they are in bad places in varga charts they will give bad effects only to the life aspects represented by those varga charts. If planets are asthangatha (nearest to sun) or grahayuddh parajita ( defeated in war) in bhava chart, even if they are in good places in vargas they will not give good results and such planets if they are in bad places in vargas they will give much more bad results.

4. In any varga chart the planet which is neechabhanga (debilitation cancelled) and placed in good position will give good effects.

5. Vargottam (same position in rashi & navamsha), Uccha ( exaltation), own house, Digbala (strength) will apply in all varga charts. Exaltation in 3, 6, 8, 12 will not be useful.

6. Mahayogas in varga charts will give good results. Aspect of natural malefic planets is bad. Aspect of natural benefic planets is good. Even if planets are in bad places if aspected by strong Jupiter it will be good and in this aspect of neecha (debilitated) Jupiter will not be useful.

7. The placement of lordship of bhavas in varga charts is not to be considered. The placement of bhava lords in bhava chart only is to be taken. In varga charts, the placement of lord of lagna (ascendant) in that varga chart is important.

8. In varga charts, even if debilitated planets are in good places, if they are not neechabhanga (debilitated cancelled) they will not give good results.

9. It will be good if in every varga chart if lagna (ascendant) is vargottam (same sign in rashi & navamsha) and if its lord is in benefic position. If not so but in malefic positions, then the resultant good effects will be felt in dreams only. If lagna and lagna lord are vargottam then it will
be very good. The position of lagna lord in good places is important.

10. In varga chart, if a planet is placed in a strong rashi in 6th house, it will give benefic results in the beginning and malefic results later on.

11. In all varga charts, it will be good if more planets aspect lagna. In all Vargas, It will be good if lagna has got subha-argala (good planets on both sides) and it will be bad if lagna has got papa-argala (bad planets on both sides). Malefic planets should not join with the subha-argala planets. If benefic planets join papa-argala planets, even if bad results are in the beginning, good results will come later on. For planets also subha-argala is good and papa-argala is bad.

12. It will be bad if Uccha (exaltation) planets are associated with neecha (debilitation) planets and if planets are associated with enemy planets.

13. If varga lagna has got good and bad planets argala, good results will come in the dasa (period) of good planet and bad planet dasa will be bad.

14. In varga charts parivartana yogas (exchange of houses of planets & results) are to be considered.

15. If in varga chart the lagna lord is in bad places in that varga chart then that planet dasa will give bad results.

16. There are karakatwas (significations) for different vargas. If those karaka planets are in karaka bhavas of those vargas they will give bad results. For example: In Siddhamsha if Mercury is in 4th, in Saptamsha if Jupiter is in lagna1, if in navamsha Venus is in 7th, in Dwadasamsha if Sun or Moon are in 12th, if in Drekkana Mars or Jupiter in 3rd or 11th respectively then they will give bad results respectively to education, children, wife/husband, father, mother, younger or elder coborns. The planets in 3rdand 8th are marakas (death inflicting) for karakatwas of those vargas.

My Journey into Hindu Astrology

My journey in Hindu Astrology started in 1963 in my 25th year when I was transferred from Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune, to Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Hyderabad, Ministry of Defence, Government of India to work in guided missiles research and development. My father Late Sri Pemmaraju Venkata Rao was in Hyderabad in politics and his hobby was Hindu Astrology. He told me that his father, my grand father, also knew astrology and used to do lot of calculations and give good predictions such as a snake bite for my elder brother within one year of his birth and he would survive and accordingly he named him as Subba Rayudu after Lord Subrahmanya representing snake god. . He studied my horoscope and told me that I would also learn astrology as it is there in the genes also.

Since my father was very busy with his politics, he introduced me to his friend and the famous professional astrologer Late Divakaruni Venkata Subbarao who wrote many books in Telugu, a south Indian language, consolidating the entire crux from many classical texts and from his experiences. I studied all his books and he was my Guru for further coaching. I also studied all the books and articles in his magazine by Late Dr. B.V.Raman , the great astrologer and founder of the Astrological magazine and corresponded with him to learn and he was also my Guru indirectly. I also collected many other books in Hindu astrology by various authors and studied them.

I was just a beginner in learning astrology and I happened to go to a place called Kovvur, near Rajahmundry city in Andhra Pradesh state in India to meet my co-brother’s family. He told me about an old astrologer in the nearby village and we went there to meet him. He came out after his Pooja (God prayers). He asked me about my date of birth, time of birth morning/evening/night, place of birth and he made the charts very fast from the ephemeris of 1938. He asked me whether I was an engineer, not that of roads & buildings, but of research type working in country’s Defence department. I was stunned how quickly he analyzed and told about my exact profession. He was the only astrologer who told my exact profession other than the Nadi astrology person in Chennai or Madras. He also asked me to stay with him for six months so that he can teach me astrology and how to make rockets and missiles from Vedas. Of course I could not do that due to my professional and domestic commitments, moreover I felt that I was not destined for such a great guidance. He was by then itself about 80 years old and none of his children got this knowledge from him being otherwise employed and his knowledge was lost along with when he died. I understand such great knowledgeable persons were available in the Godavari belt districts of Andhra Pradesh state of India, where many Rishis used to do meditations. This type of his hint of analysis helped me later on in fixing the ascendant when in doubt. Once one person who was mathematics lecturer and Panchanga (Ephemeris) writer from his family tradition made the horoscope of his newly born first son. but was in doubt whether the ascendant he got was right and wanted to consult me. I told him to bring his wife and son also. I saw the horoscope he prepared and asked his wife whether the delivery was difficult or easy. She told me that there was a surgical operation. I immediately told him to take the ascendant next to what he got. He asked me why and I told him the mother position in the son’s horoscope is not good and Mars in the 4th house would give surgical operation to the mother when he was born, because that was one of the important points which could be checked in the horoscope for the newly born first child. Similarly at some other time, one person came with his daughter and her horoscope prepared somewhere to consult me for her marriage. I saw the girl’s personality and features and horoscope and told that it was not her horoscope and later it was found that the place of birth was taken wrongly. I corrected the ascendant and told that she would not be married till another one year and he should not waste his time, money and energy for searching a marriage match for her now and they reported to me about her marriage next year only. So I took it as very important to check the horoscope made out of the data given of date, time and place of birth first with some past events before proceeding further for any analysis.

My Guru Sri D.V.Subbarao used to insist to rectify the birth time as per the Tatwa and Antar Tatwa Siddhanta to match the male or female birth as per the moveable/fixed/dual ascendants, Moon star and the five Tatwas of Prithvi (Earth), Jala (Water), Agni (Fire), Vayu (Air) and Akash (Ether) correcting upto 24 secs. I translated this information from his book into English and published it in the Times of Astrology magazine, New Delhi and also kept it in my website (www.rayuduastrology.com) for the benefit of all. During the discussions he used to give lot of clues about the Divisional charts, Ashtakavarga, Dasa systems, planets & bhavas Shadbalas, lordships etc. For example, he used to tell that for Gemini lagna, the natural benefic planet Jupiter becomes 7 th and 10th lord thus becoming malefic due to the lordship of angles (Ubhaya Kendradhipatya Dosha) and it would be better if such Jupiter is placed in a malefic house.

Once I showed a horoscope of a girl to my Guru for marriage proposal with my son (Aries lagna & Venus in 7th) and I thought the horoscope was good since Jupiter is in 4th house for her Gemini lagna and the compatibility points for both Moons are good as per standard method (maximum 36 points, acceptable if more than 18 points). He immediately rejected the match reminding me for placement of Jupiter in a good house with Ubhaya Kendradhipatya Dosha.. He also said that though Moon signs and stars of both are compatible, the lords of both ascendants (Mars and Mercury) and 7th houses (Venus and Jupiter) are enemies and also the 7th lords are placed in 2nd and 12th positions to each other ( Dwidwadasa). Then I realized that we should not just see the compatibility points as per Moon sign & star only as per standard method but should see many other aspects also. This tempted me to lay down many conditions for matching the horoscopes for marriage with maximum 100 points considering Moon and other aspects. I published an article on this in the Journal of the American Federation of Astrologers and kept it in my website. With the request of many and with the encouragement of my Guru Dr.B.V.Raman , I wrote a book “ How to match horoscopes for marriage- A Scientific model of compatibility points based on Moon and other aspects as per Hindu Astrology” giving ready made tables for easy compilation of points and this book was published by the internationally famous M/s Motilal Banarsidass Publishers, Delhi, India and was very well reviewed in magazines and appreciated and followed by many persons and reprinted. The abstract, contents and reviews are given in my website.

My Guru, Sri D.V.Subbarao, also used to tell me that each planet is to be assessed properly for benefic and malefic tendencies for the particular horoscope since no planet is either benefic or malefic. This has led me to formulate all the conditions for which a planet can be subjected to in a horoscope such as in own house/ in friend or enemy house/ with a friend or enemy/ in friend or enemy star etc and give suitable points for each condition from experience and evaluate the benefic and malefic percentage of the planet so that it can be judged almost quantitatively how far a planet in a horoscope would give benefic or malefic results. I sent an abstract of this theme to the American Federation of Astrologers, USA and I was invited to give a lecture on this topic in their convention in 1992 in Chicago. Later many requested me to write a full-fledged book with this benefic/ malefic analysis along with predictions. This book “ How to read a horoscope- A Scientific model of predictions based on benefic and malefic analysis of planets and bhavas as per Hindu astrology” was published by M/s Motilal Banarsidss Publishers, Delhi and was very well reviewed by many magazines and appreciated by many people including my Guru Sri B.V.Raman.and reprinted. The abstract, reviews and contents are given in my website.

At this stage, it may be important to mention that I took voluntary retirement from Defence R&D Lab in 1990 when I completed my 30 years service in various capacities telling my then boss Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, the then Director of Defence R&D Lab and Former President of India, that my son got settled and I had sufficiently worked in Defence R&D and I should do something for my hobby of astrology and since he knows my interest he agreed for my retirement. Since then my activities totally changed from engineering and management fields and I spent full time to engage myself in the study of astrology and philosophy and pursuing my meditation. Later also Dr. Kalam took me as a member in the committee for the reorganization of the laboratory and appreciated my research efforts and the awards in astrology telling me that I was doing good work after retirement.

My Guru Dr.B.V.Raman used to tell me that though the subject of astrology is studied technically, there should be developed some spiritual practices, Mantras and meditation techniques to get intuitive abilities for analyzing the horoscopes and giving predictions. and I was wondering who would give me this methodology. On one fine morning in 1968, one of friends and colleagues, Sri C.V.K.Murthy, came home right early in the morning of a Sunday and took me to Sri Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who had camped in Hyderabad then. After his lecture, Maharishi asked ten persons to stay back and I was one of them and he called by one inside his room and initiated Transcendental Meditation (TM) with Mantra and told how to do it and explained the benefits of the same. Since then I have been doing this TM and Mantra. Also after that I studied many spiritual texts and teachings of many Gurus like Sri Ramana Maharishi, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Sri Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, Sri Dayanada Saraswati, Sri Shirddhi Sai Baba, Jiddu Krishna Murthy, UG Krishna murthy, visited many Ashrams and Retreats, met many Saints in Himalayas and listened to them and attended spiritual courses of Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Sanskrit. Strangely before I know anything about Sri Shirddhi Saibaba, He appeared to me in dream and asked me to visit Shirddhi, which I did and also on one occasion in a summer resort He gave Huge Darshan in the sky when I was meditating. When I visited Mantralaya , I had a Darshan of Shri Guru Raghvendra Swamy coming out of his Samadhi when I was meditating sitting opposite His Samadhi.. One saint in Himalayas, before I said anything to Him, explained to me about this cosmic hierarchy, how the Gurus would come in different forms and told me that I had blessings of Sri Shirddhi Saibaba and He would guide me further.

I went for Vedanta and Sanskrit course for 3 months a few years back to Arsha Vidya Gurukulam of Pujya Dayananda Swamiji in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu state, India, though I could not complete it due to severe back ache. I met Pujya Swamiji and told him that I was studying Hindu astrology giving consultations and I was not sure whether I was guiding or misguiding the clients. Pujya Swamiji asked me whether Jupiter was in the 5th house in my horoscope and I said ‘yes’ and then he said I need not be afraid to give consultations but I should tell the clients to do some suitable regular Prayers also. He also asked me to visit his Gurukulams in Rishikesh, India and in Pennsylvania in USA. I visited Rishikesh ashram and strangely when I went to USA to my son’s place I went to his Pennsylvania ashram invited by them to give a lecture on Nadi astrology in their astrology conference. I attended his lectures in Hyderabad and Coimbatore and read his books on spiritual matters. Since then Pujya Swamiji also became one of my spiritual Gurus and I recently in October 2007 went there to meet him. He suggested to me and my wife to stay in Senior Citizens Home being constructed by a trust near his ashram and we could stay there for one month only due to food problems.

Once some client came for consultation and told me that he came earlier few days back and whatever I told for his question came true and now he came again to consult on another question. I saw his horoscope and asked him what question he asked earlier and what answer I gave at that time. He explained me that earlier question and answer I gave. Strangely I could not see that answer now to that question of earlier occasion. I immediately realized that I must have given the answer at that time intuitively since it was a border case to give positive or negative answer and I gave the positive answer from my meditation and mantra. I also remembered my Guru Dr.Raman’s advice

I used to discuss with many of astrology friends and learn from them particularly from Sri T.Ramakrishna, researcher and professional astrologer and from Late V.S.Narayana Sarma, professional astrologer and founder of Star Astrological Research Centre about the Nadi astrology. I went to Madras (Chennai) in 1968 to meet my father-in-law Sri UG KrishnaMurthy who was a philosopher. He took his Nadi astrology reading from palm leaves about 50 years ago and everything happened as it was written there. He took me to that Kowmara Nadi center in Chennai and the nadi person after asking some questions to verify my past got my leaf and read from there. He exactly told me my profession as working in government doing tube-like things containing explosives (rockets & missiles!)used for defense purposes and he did not give profession details in this field after 52 years age. Surprisingly everything came out correct and I took voluntary retirement from that technical field of guided missiles research and development at the age of 52 years. Later again when I went to him after few years after my retirement, he said that my leaf about profession is not available as there is no specific regular paid profession except doing some astrology work.

Then onwards after my retirement in 1990, I went to different nadi centres. I went first to their main center in Vaitheeswarankoil village near Chidambaram city in Tamilnadu state of India and spent about a week there to take nadi palm leaf reading of mine, my son, daughter-in-law, my wife and other friends whose whole past details are known. The nadi reader takes the right hand thumbprint for gents and left hand thumb print for ladies. Later he goes inside and brings some bundle of palm leaves and asks you some questions regarding your coborns, names of yourself and parents and wife if married, profession, education while reading leaf by leaf till he gets a leaf matching with your information. Then he goes inside and picks up the leaf pertaining to your details and read them in Tamil language (a south Indian language), write it in a notebook, and record it in a cassette along with the translation into your language by a translator. This is the procedure followed by all nadi readers at any nadi center. All the past including the exact names of yourself, parents, wife would given along with some future events also by steps of 2 to 3 years interval. One nadi fellow told me that I will be doing new type of computer astrology and I will go abroad shortly in this connection. Strangely I did go to USA on invitation by American Federation of Astrologers to give a lecture in their astrology convention about my research on benefic and malefic percentage analysis of planets and bhavas depending on the various conditions and later I published this in a book form also. I also went to nadi centers in Kanchipuram, Tirupati,Hyderabad etc and took readings. In general I found that the past events were correct and the near future readings are correct. They seem to be invoking some spirit to tell the exact names and future readings based on the transits of Jupiter and Saturn. Then I wrote an exhaustive article “NadiAstrology- An Overview” and published in the Times of Astrology magazine of Delhi India in2001 annual number and I got the prestigious Sri Santhanam (founder of the magazine) Award for the best article felicitating me in their conference in Lucknow, India with a Sandalwood Sri Saraswati statue and a woolen shawl. I raised several questions in this article to be researched and answered by future astrologers about the nadi palm leaves astrology. This article was kept in my website also for the benefit of all and even today many appreciated this article. Some persons are trying to do some research in nadi astrology but not any satisfaction to find out how such exact details of names and past events could be written long long ago on the palm leaves. Recently I went to the same nadi center twice on 16 October 2007 and 1 December 2007 and took readings by two different nadi readers to check about any change of place for me. The first reader told me that there will a change of place for 2 to 3 years and the other reader said that there will be change of place but only temporarily for a few months only and I have to check up this later which would be correct. It will be very costly since they charge for General Kandam (chapter) about Rs400 and for other Kandams of profession, marriage etc about Rs.350 and invariably they say that remedies are to be done as given in Shanti and Deeksha Kandams which would cost again. Anyway lot of research need to be done in this field to find the methodology adopted in this nadi palm leaf astrology. In this connection I discussed with my Guru Dr. BV.Raman also and I reported his views also.

I got all the books available on nadi astrology such as Chandra Kala Nadi, Brigu Nandi Nadi, Nadi astrology etc and studied the principles and applied them in my predictions successfully. I discussed then with Sri Santhanam who translated Chandralala nadi into English from Sanskrit. I also attended a workshop conducted by Sri R.G.Rao about nadi astrology principles, which he translated them into English. In principle it looks that the transits of planets over natal planets seem to be given importance along with the basic significations and characteristics of planets instead of taking the ascendant and lordships of planets. For example it is said that when Saturn transits over Mars in the natal birth chart there will be professional obstructions since Saturn represents profession and Mars is enemy to Saturn Similarly if Mars is placed after Mercury, there can be obstructions in education since Mercury represents education and Mars is enemy to Mercury. I discussed some of these trends in my lecture “ Some predictive techniques” given at the Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS) founded by my Guru Dr.BV Raman and the same was given as article in my website for the benefit of all.

I maintained a record of all the persons who consulted me keeping their date, time and place of birth, rasi chart and their personal data about self, education, job, parents coborns etc. This has resulted in collection of about thousand horoscopes, which had helped me in my research. I suggest to all astrologers to maintain the data about their clients.

When people are coming and asking for the marriage of their son or daughter, I thought that at least the astrologer should be able to give an indication at what age the marriage is likely to happen. In this connection I applied the principles of Nadi astrology and derived at an easy method to tell the approximate year of marriage. Mars is taken as the planet signifying the marriage knot and the transits of Jupiter and Saturn connecting Mars in the natal chart and the Navamsa ascendant or its lagna lord is taken as the criteria for the marriage knot, of course considering Rahu is not interfering with Mars. From my data collection, I checked up this method with about 90 horoscopes about marriage date and mostly the method proposed is satisfactory. I gave a lecture on this in Indian Council of Astrological Sciences (ICAS) and also included the same in my website for the benefit of all. I got the feedback from many that the method is simple and satisfactory to arrive at the probable marriage age.

I also studied the Prasna (question) Shastra of Kerala and applied it whenever the birth data is not available. Also I studied about the Angry planets in the horoscope that are placed as per the sins committed in the previous life so that proper remedial measures can be taken for these angry planets.

Another important study made was in connection with the Navamsapada lords and predictions. I met one person whose Guru (who is no more) studied this aspect. It is generally considered that Navamsa for the 1st pada ( quarter) of the stars Aswini. Makha and Moola falls in Aries and the Navamsapada lord is Mars and similarly for the other navamsapada lords. But in his research, he pointed out that the navamsapada lords would change and the planets are divided into two groups of Vishnu and Siva. Accordingly he formulated a methodology to prepare a navamsa graph and thereby gave methodology to give predictions. This is a very intricate method giving very accurate results. I collected the books in Telugu language from him and tried to understand the method and that person is no more interested. I wrote an article “ Navamsapada lords and predictions” and published in the Times of Astrology, Delhi and also kept it in my website. Persons who are keen research interested may further study this method.

I studied Krishna Murthy Paddhati (KP) astrology also but did not use extensively since many planets are representing an event and the elimination process was difficult. However I told one of my friends of KP astrology to document some important events with dates and times for over a year and then check the occurrence of the event with respect to the birth and horary chart as per the KP astrology. This research was published as an article “ Daily Events check with horary and birth chart” in the Times of Astrology magazine.

I was the only person from my Andhra Pradesh state selected in 1995 by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi University of Management in Holland to go there and give lectures and consultations. I stayed there for three months and gained good name for my consultations, of course with the blessings, meditation and Mantra of my first spiritual Guru Mahesh Yogi. There in Holland I gave a video recording about the Jeeva and Sareera of Grahas and kept this as an article in my website. Jeeva of a planet is the lord of the star in which that planet is placed and it is the Consciousness of that planet. Sareera of a planet is the lord of the star in which its Jeeva planet is placed and it is the Activity of that planet. If the Jeeva and Sareera planets are enemies to that planet then it will not be able to function properly. The article “ Jeeva and Sareera of Grahas-Consciuosness and activities of planets” was published in the American Federation of Astrologers Journal, USA.

The Planetary Gems Association, Thailand contacted me and admitted me as a member of their association and certified me as a Planetary Gems adviser. I published two articles “ Benefic and malefic planets and Gems” and “ Anukul Vad versus Pratikul Vad” in their journal, indicating that precious gems only are to be used for benefic planets only.

I also studied the Nadi amshas which are 150 th division of a rasi and collected the results of many nadi amshas as given in the Astrological magazine and nadi texts. I published two articles “ A Note on Nadi Amshas” and “ Nadi Amsha Chart” in the Times of Astrology magazine, Delhi , correlating my horoscope by rectifying my birth time as per Tatwa/ Antar Tatwa Siddhanta and then matching with the result of the particular nadi amsha. These articles are kept in my website.

I also actively participated in the discussions of Yahoo groups astrologyandtimingevents after learning their new methodology of using the Ashtakavaraga system to predict an event upto a timing within 15 days and I was appreciated in the group for my quick understanding of the system and participation.

Out of my study, research and experience, I also published articles “ Comments on twin births” Astrology and Human life”, “ A life pattern in the light of major planets transits”, “ A Note on problems in predictions”,” Horoscope of Sri Swami Jnanananda- The Saint and the Scientist”,”Nadi astrology for marriage-A case study”, Twelfth bhava of two Krishnamurths-Enlightened thinkers, Stellar Effects” and kept them in my website for the benefit of all for further research.

I also gave lectures in the conferences of astrology of the American federation of astrologers and Arsha Vidya Gurukulam in USA on Nadi astrology.in 1998.

I got the titles of “ Daivagna Ratna” and “ Jyotish Aradhakulu” by The Star Astrological Centre, Hyderabad in 1993 and 1997 in consideration of my meritorious contribution made and distinguished services rendered to the cause of astrology and occult sciences. I also got the prestigious Ugadi Award –2006 from the Andhra Pradesh State Government for outstanding contribution to astrology. I also got the prestigious Santhanam award for the best article “ Nadi astrology-An Overview”.

All the details about my books, reviews, contents, awards, detailed articles, photos, personal information etc are given in my website www.rayuduastrology.com designed by my daughter-in-law Sailaja Pemmaraju.

I had worked for about 40 years and done research whatever best I could for the upliftment of this great science of Hindu astrology and presented all my work in my website for the benefit of all for further research.. Since almost one year in 2007, I stopped all astrological guidance and consultations since it was giving strain to my health at this age of 70 and I want to spend more time on spiritual matters and meditation. I wish all the astrologers to do more research in astrology and achieve good success in their endeavours.

Above all I pray once again our family Deities Lord Venkateswara and Goddess Padmavathi for their blessings during my efforts.

Subham!

Marriage Age – A Nadi Method

A lecture given on 3rd July, 2005 at Indian Council of Astrological Sciences(ICAS), Hyderabad, India

Introduction

Marriage is a landmark in life and many want to know about it. Marriage like any other event in one’s life requires a positive intermediary influence to allow its fructification. It is necessary that the nativity should indicate marriage as such. Otherwise, simply timing the possible date of marriage will go in vain. However, it is assumed that in most cases in this mundane practical materialistic world there is no denial of marriage, which also works as a part of Karma or duty.

For early marriage, delayed marriage, denial of marriage, multiple marriages, timing the event of marriage, marriage etc, there are many rules given by the ancient Rishis and the modern astrologers like Late Shri R.Santhanam, Late Shri D.V.Subbarao, Late Dr.B.V.Raman, Late Shri Krishnamurthy, Shri H.R.Shankar, Shri R.G.Rao etc. based on Vimsottari dasa system, Kalachakra dasa system, Venus, Moon, houses 1,2,4,5,7,12 and their lords, navamsa, Krishnamurthy Paddhathi (KP), transits, nadi astrology etc. It is not denied that these rules and systems are not correct but it would be a Herculean task to check and apply these rules and systems to arrive at the timing of the event of marriage. Therefore, it is felt that out of these many rules and systems a minimum set of rules and systems could be selected with thumb rules to arrive at least at the probable age for the event of marriage, without going into many details at the outset. The idea is not to question the many rules and systems given and dilute the subject, but to simply the procedure for quickly recognizing the probable marriage age rejecting the other unsuitable and unproductive ages so that a better of timing of marriage event can be worked in detail later on with this probable marriage age. In this connection the method given by Shri Shankar is quite handy.

In these days, in general, the marriage age can start from 21 and up to 28 or so can be considered as a timely marriage and beyond such a phase it can be deemed as delayed one. Of course, there can be limitations for marriage age imposed by social and family customs, conventions, circumstances, responsibilities, laws of country, religious stipulations etc.

A Nadi Method

Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus

In nadi astrology, Saturn is considered as presiding over the portfolio of Karma or duty as Karma Karaka.
Saturn(significator) decides the fate and duties of the individuals born in this world depending on Saturn’s interaction with other karaka planets. In performing such duties presided over and decided by Saturn the presiding deity, there will help and cooperation of other planets to Saturn whether this cooperation will prove beneficial or harmful to the native depends upon the planetary configurations I the native’s birth chart and during transits. Jupiter is the other main major planet representing the life force or Jeeva whose interaction with the event karaka planet is important for fructification of the event. Rahu and Ketu are the other major planets generally obstructing the event karaka planet. Mars is taken as the karaka planet for marriage event or for the marital knot . Marital knot as distinctly different from the concept of marital bliss or wretchedness of marital life. How a marriage event manifests has no bearing on how life develops in the context of the marital aspect. Contributory factors culminating in the marriage event cease to have any further play or contribution thereafter. Under the nadi method, Venus is depicted as karaka for marital life which can develop into marital bliss or crucible for suffering.

Transits

In nadi astrology, transits of Saturn and Jupiter are mainly considered connecting the karaka planet of an event in the birth chart for timing the event. Since Mars is the karaka planet for marriage event, the interaction of Saturn and Jupiter with mars during their transit becomes opportune for the marriage event to occur. The 7th sign depicts partner of the native, the one with whom the marital knot is tied and the transits of Saturn and Jupiter with the 7th sign from Mars also becomes opportune. Jupiter and Saturn interact with natal Mars in birth chart when they transit over these signs or aspect these signs. Jupiter transits each sign for about an year and Saturn transits each sign for about 2 1/2 years. It can be seen that in one’s life span, Jupiter and Saturn would be interacting with the sensitive point of marital knot periodically at regular cyclic transits. While it is prerequisite that Saturn and Jupiter in their transit interact with mars natal position to bring about marriage event, it does not follow that every time Jupiter and Saturn interact with marital knot sensitive point it would be necessarily result in the marriage event. The task, therefore, is to elect the particular transit of Saturn and Jupiter out of the series of transits by process of eliminating unproductive transits. The step in this direction is to check whether the karaka for marriage event mars comes under situations to cause delay or obstruction. Rahu’s interaction with Mars can cause impediments or delay in marriage. Symbolically , Mars is considered as being swallowed by Rahu.

Change of Sign

In nadi astrology, whenever a planet is retrograde in a sign, it is considered to be in the previous sign also. When Saturn is in the beginning of a sign upto about 3 degrees and Jupiter up to about 1 degree, they are taken to be in the previous sign. When two planets in parivartana (exchange of signs) they are taken to be in their own signs.

Navamsa

In nadi astrology, the transit of major planets is also considered in the navamsa chart in the fructification of the event. Since navamsa chart is supposed to represent marriage aspect, the transit of Saturn and Jupiter over the navemsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord is considered as additional point for timing of marriage.

NADI METHOD RULES FOR MARRIAGE AGE

The following are the main rules for arriving at probable marriage age:

  1. Jupiter during transit conjoins or aspects natal Mars or 7th sign from natal Mars.
  2. Saturn during transit conjoins or aspects natal Mars or 7th sign from natal Mars.
  3. Jupiter during transit conjoins or aspects navamsa lagna or navamsa lagna lord.
  4. Saturn during transit conjoins or aspects navamsa lagna or navamsa lagna lord.

The following additional points may also be noted:

  1. When Jupiter, Saturn or Mars is retrograde in birth chart in a particular sign, they are to be considered to be in the previous sign also and age is to be counted from there.
  2. When Jupiter is in about 1 degree and Saturn is about 3 degrees in the beginning of a sign, they are to be considered to be in the previous sign also as per the Vakya Siddhanta followed by nadi astrology and age is to be counted from there.
  3. When Rahu is with Mars or next sign to Mars, the 4th sign from mars would be the sensitive point for interaction with transits of Jupiter, Saturn , Rahu.
  4. When Rahu is in opposite sign to mars, the 4th sign from there, that is,. the 10th sign form natal Mars is to be considered as the sensitive point.
  5. When Mars is in parivartana ( exchange of signs) with another planet, Mars is to be considered to be in own sign acting as the sensitive point.
  6. When Mars is retrograde with Rahu, first Mars is to be place in the previous sign and the 4th sign from there is to be considered as the sensitive point.

Thumb Rule for Counting Age

Counting of age is to be started from natal Jupiter sign at the rate for one year per sign in clockwise direction, from natal Saturn sign at the rate of 2 1/2 years per sign in clockwise direction and from natal Rahu sign at the rate of 1 1/2 years per sign in anti-clockwise direction. This means that Jupiter transit on the natal Jupiter sign is considered as completion of one year age and accordingly Jupiter transit on the next sign is taken as completion of two years and so on. Similarly Saturn on natal Saturn sign is considered as completion of 2 1/2 years and on the next sign completion of 5 years and so on. Rahu transit on natal Rahu is taken as completion of 1 1/2 years and on the previous sign since Rahu moves anti-clockwise completion of 3 years and so on. By this thumb rule, it can be quickly checked in which signs Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu would be during transit for completed years. As already stated earlier, the transit positions of Saturn, Jupiter and Rahu can be noted from 21 years age onward to check their interaction with natal Mars, navamsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord to eliminate the unproductive ages for marriage due to Rahu interaction with Mars.

It is admitted that this thumb rule would not give the actual transits as per the ephemeris, but would definitely help in quickly arriving at the probable marriage age without wasting much time and energy tro find the transit positions for every year from the ephemeris.

EXAMPLES: (Lahiri Ayanamsa is taken)

Some typical practical examples of known persons are given below:

Chart 1:

Male born 4 Sept 1907, 1802 hrs IST, 18N07, 83E25, Marriage Age 16
Lagna Aquarius, Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Pisces, Mars in Sagittarius, navamsa lagna Pisces, navamsa lagna lord Jupiter in Libra

At age 16, Jupiter transits in Libra aspecting 7th sign Gemini from natal Mars in Sagittarius, Saturn transits in Virgo aspects 7th sign Gemini from natal mars in Sagittarius. Transit Saturn also aspects navamsa lagna Pisces and Jupiter also transits over navamsa lagna lord Jupiter in Libra.

Chart 2:

Male born 16 July 1964, 1620 hrs, 79E40, 17N58, Marriage 3 March 1991 ( Age 26)
Lagna Scorpio, Jupiter in Aries, Saturn (retro) in Aquarius, Mars in Taurus, navamsa lagna Aquarius, navamsa lagna lord Saturn in Capricorncorn.

At age 26, Jupiter transits in Taurus over natal Mars and also aspects navamsa lagna lord Saturn in Capricorncorn, Saturn is taken to be in Capricorncorn being in retrograde in Aquarius and counting age from Capricorncorn transits in Scorpio and aspects Mars in Taurus and also aspects navamsa lagna lord Saturn in Capricorncorn.

Chart 3:

Female born 24 Feb 1965, 1030 hrs, 80E36, 16N32, Marriage 21 Jan 1991 (25/26))
Lagna Aries, Jupiter in Aries, Saturn in Aquarius, Mars (retro) in Virgo, navamsa lagna Scorpio, navamsa lagna lord mars in Gemini.

At age 25, Jupiter transiting in Aries aspects Mars in Leo (taken Leo since Mars in retrograde in Virgo), Saturn transiting in Scorpio aspects Mars in Leo (Virgo retro) and over navamsa lagna.

At age 26, Jupiter transiting in Taurus aspects Mars in Virgo (taking as it is ) and aspects navamsa lagna , Saturn transiting in Sagittarius aspects Mars in Virgo (taking as it ) and aspects navamsa lagna lord in Gemini.

Chart 4:

Male born 25 Feb 1961, 0927 hrs, 17N27, 78E33, Marriage 25 April 1993 (Age 32) ( 25/26)
Lagna Aries, Jupiter 3 degrees 10 min., in Capricorncorn, Saturn 2 degrees 31 min., in Capricorncorn, Mars in Gemini, navamsa lagna Gemini, navamsa lagna lord Venus in Aquarius

At age 32, Jupiter transits in Leo and aspects 7th sign Sagittarius from natal mars in Gemini., Saturn is at 2 degrees 31 min., in Capricorncorn and taken to be in Sagittarius (nadi rule if Saturn is upto about 3 degrees in a sign considered as if in previous sign) transits in Sagittarius and aspects mars in Gemini and navamsa lagna lord Venus in Aquarius.

In this case, since it is considered as late marriage, other ages are also considered to check why the marriage event was missed earlier. The Age Table in Appendix gives the transits as per the thumb rule as well as per ephemeris. The signs and comments in the brackets are as for the data from ephemeris for ready comparison.

It may be noted in the comments, at other ages, either Rahu obstructs Mars or Jupiter and Saturn are not connected to Mars and hence the marriage event could not take place. Whereas at age 32, in the case of the thumb rule, Jupiter and Saturn are connected to Mars and Navamsa lagna lord and Rahu does not obstruct Mars and in the ephemeris data Saturn in Aquarius is not connected to Mars.

Chart 5:

Male born 25 Nov 1964, 1523 hrs, 17N26, 78E27, Marriage 28 Feb 1991 0300 hrs, 17N42, 83E18, (Age 26/27)
Lagna Aries, Jupiter (retro) in Aries, Saturn in Aquarius, Mars in Leo, navamsa lagna Aries, navamsa lagna lord Mars in Leo, Mars and Sun are in Parivartana (exchange of houses).

At age 26, Jupiter in Pisces (being retrograde in Aries) transits in Aries, aspects Mars , over navamsa lagna Aries and aspects navamsa lagna lord Mars in Leo, Saturn transits in Sagittarius aspects 7th from natal Mars in Leo.

At age 27, Jupiter transits in Taurus, aspects Mars in Scorpio (being in exchange of signs with Sun), Saturn transits in Sagittarius aspects 7th from Mars.

Chart 6:

Male born 3 August 1942, 0723 hrs, 13N00, 77E35, Marriage August (Age 30)
Lagna Leo, Jupiter in Gemini, Saturn in Taurus, Mars & Rahu in Leo, Navamsa lagna Taurus.

Since Mars is with Rahu in Leo, the sensitive point is Scorpio, the 4th from Leo. At age 30, Jupiter transiting in Scorpio is over Mars, Saturn transiting in Taurus aspects Scorpio Mars and both are also connected with navamsa lagna Taurus.

Chart 7:

Male (one of twins) born 5 Nov 1956, 0241 hrs, 16N32, 80E36, Marriage 22 March 1992 (Age 35).
Lagna Leo 29 deg.26 min, Jupiter 1 deg.19 min. in Virgo, Saturn 9 deg.27 min. in Scorpio, Mars 25deg 53 min. in Aquarius, navamsa lagna Sagittarius, navamsa lagna lord in Capricorncorn.

At age 35, Jupiter in Leo (being in 1 deg. 19 min. in Virgo as per nadi rule) transits in Gemini and aspects Natal Mars in Aquarius and navamsa lagna Sagittarius, Saturn transits in Sagittarius aspects Mars and over navamsa lagna.

Chart 8:

Male (twin brother of chart 7) born 5 Nov 1956, 0226 hrs,16N32, 80E36, Marriage 18 Aug 1988.
( Age 32)

Lagna Leo 25 deg.49 min., Jupiter in Virgo 1deg.18min., Saturn in Scorpio 9 deg.27 min, Mars in Aquarius 23 deg.52 min., navamsa lagna Scorpio, navamsa lagna lord in Taurus.

At age 32, Jupiter transits in Aries (natal Jupiter is taken to be in Virgo only) aspects 7th from Mars, Saturn transits in Scorpio aspects 7th from Mars, transits over navamsa lagna and aspects navamsa lagna lord, if Jupiter is taken to be in Leo, Jupiter transits in Pisces almost over Mars and aspects navamsa lagna.

NOTE: The twin with earlier navamsa lagna got married earlier.

Chart 9:

Female(one of twins) born 25 Nov 1967, 2223 hrs, 17N26, 78E27, Marriage 1989 (age 22)
Lagna Cancer 15deg 59min34sec. Jupiter 11.19.05, Saturn (retro) Pisces 12.24.48, Mars Capricorncorn 1.53.16, navamsa lagna Scorpio, navamsa lagna lord in Capricorncorn.

At age 22, Jupiter transiting in Taurus aspects Mars and navamsa lagna lord, Saturn (being retrograde taken in Aquarius) transitting in Libra aspects 7th form Mars. Taking Saturn in Pisces itself transits in Scorpio aspects Mars and navamsa lagna.

Chart 10:

NOTE: When the navamsa lagna is same the marriage took place at same age for both twins.

Chart 11:

It was predicted in Jan 2005, when their parents asked about her marriage, that her marriage would be in her 22/23 age, most probably at her 22 1/2 age.

Female born 30 Nov 1982, 0405 hrs, 17N23, 78E23, Marriage 1 June 2005
Lagna Libra, Jupiter in Scorpio, Saturn in Libra, Mars in Sagittarius, Rahu in Gemini,Navamsa Lagna Capricorncorn, Namamsa Lagna lord in Scorpio.
Since Rahu is in 7th from Mars, take 4th from 7th ie., 10th from Mars in Sagittarius Virgo as Sensitive point.

At age 23, Jupiter transits in Virgo over sensitive point in Virgo aspects Navamsa lagna, Saturn transits over Cancer aspects sensitive point Virgo aspects Navamsa lagna.
Since Jupiter and Mars are in exchange of houses ( parivartana) taking Mars in Scorpio and Jupiter in Sagittarius, at age 22 Jupiter transits in Virgo aspects 7th from Mars Taurus aspects over Navamsa lagna, Saturn transits in Gemini almost aspects Mars in Scorpio and Navamsa lagna lord and at age 23 transits in Cancer almost aspects 7th from Mars aspects Navamsa lagna.

As per the actual ephemeris on the marriage day, Jupiter is retro in Virgo and Saturn just entered Cancer and Jupiter being retro considered to be in Leo aspects Natal Mars in Sagittarius and Saturn almost aspects.
Natal Mars and in fact at the time of fixing the marriage Saturn transits in Gemini aspects Natal Mars.

Chart 12:

Male born 04 Feb 1946, 0742 hrs, 17N23, 78E 27, Marriage 07 May 1971 at 22:30 hrs ( Age 25)
Lagna Aquarius, Jupiter in Libra, Saturn Gemini9, Mars ( retro) Gemini, Rahu Gemini, Navamsa lagna Scorpio, Navamsa lagna lord Aries.

Since Mars is Retrograde in Gemini and with Rahu, first consider Mars in Taurus and then count 4th house from there ie Leo as the Sensitive point.
At age 25, Jupiter transits in Libra aspects 7th Aquarius from the sensitive point Leo, aspect navamsa lagna lord; Saturn is considered to be in Taurus being retrograde in Gemini transits Aquarius aspects 7th from sensitive point aspects navamsa lagna Scorpio and navamsa lagna lord.

Conclusion

Many charts with birth data and marriage dates(88)are checked with this thumb rule method and in 43 charts all the four rules are satisfied and in the rest also nearly 3 rules are satisfied. It looks that this method gives better results compared to actual transits taken from ephemeris for different ages which is also a tedious process. Therefore, the thumb rule to count the ages from Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu can be followed to arrive at the probable age for marriage. Shri Shankar should be thanked in indicating Mars as marital knot karaka and transit of Jupiter connecting Mars for marriage timing. The method is extended including transits of Saturn and Rahu connecting mars, navamsa lagna and navamsa lagna lord, to select the probable age eliminating unproductive ages due to Rahu’s connection with Mars.

Marriage being the most auspicious and major event, there must be some allowance for planets in transit to properly correlate the fixation of marriage and its actual ceremony. Planets could have easily changed their position between these two phases. The transits at the marriage fixation time also may satisfy the rules better than at the actual marriage time.

All the readers are requested to study this thumb rule method with the birth data and the marriage dates available with them along with the actual transits as per ephemeris. They should do further research to formulate better rules to arrive at more appropriate results for marriage timing of not only marriage age but also up to the marriage month and date in that marriage age.

Nadi Amsha Chart

This article was published in “The Times of Astrology” magazine, New Delhi in April 2005.

Introduction

The Rashi is divided into several divisions such as Hora (1/2), Drekkana (1/3), Chaturtamsa ( 1/4), Panchamsa (1/5), Shastamsa ( 1/6), Saptamsa (1/7), Ashtamsa (1/8), Navamsha ( 1/9), Dashamsa (1/10), Dwadashamsa ( 1/12), Shodashamsa ( 1/16), Vimshamsa 91/20), Siddhamsa (1/24), Bhamsa (1/27), Trimshamsa (1/30), Khavedamsa (1/40), Akshavedamsa ( 1/40), Shastiamsa ( 1/60, Navamsha-Navamsha ( 1/81), Navamsha-Dwadashamsa ( 1/108) etc, representing different aspects of life. It is known how to prepare these different divisional charts though with some differences in the approach. But there is no published literature for the correct utilization of these charts in interpreting the results. Nadi Amsha is the subtlest in the division of the Rashi. Some of the published literature on Nadi amshas has given the results. But nowhere it is published how to prepare the Nadi amsha chart and to interpret the results.

In this article is given the explanation of the Nadi amshas, methodology to prepare the Nadi amsha chart and interpretation of Nadi amsha chart, out of my research.

Nadi Amshas

By now, most of the readers know what is a Nadi amsha. However, for the benefit of others, a Nadi amsha is 1/150th part of a rashi. The 30 degrees of rashi divided by 150 would give 12 minutes of arc (30 degrees multiplied by 60 and divided by 150 is equal to 12 minutes). Thus there are 150 Nadi amshas in a rashi and each Nadi amsha is of 12 minutes arc. If, on an average, 2 hours duration is taken for each rashi, it amounts to 48 seconds in time duration (2 hours multiplied by 3600 and divided by 150 is equal to 48 seconds). These Nadi amshas are given different names to recognize their interval periods.

The Nadi amshas are numbered in clockwise direction in moveable rashis from beginning to end of rashi. In fixed rashis they begin from end to beginning of rashi anti-clockwise. In dual rashis, they begin from middle of rashi, to the end of rashi then continue from beginning of rashi and counted upto the middle of rashi. For example, in Aries moveable rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha, named Vasudha, is from 0 degrees to 0 degrees 12 minutes, the 2nd Nadi amsha is from 0 degrees 12 minutes to 0degrees 24 minutes and so on till the 150th Nadi amsha is from 29 degrees 48 minutes to 30 degrees. In Taurus fixed rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha of Vasudha is from 29 degrees 48 minutes to 30 degrees, the 2nd one from 29 degrees 36 minutes to 29 degrees 48 minutes and so on till the last 150th Nadi amsha is from 0 degrees to 0 degrees 12 minutes. In Gemini dual rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha of Vasudha is from the middle 15 degrees to 15 degrees 12 minutes, the 2nd one from 15 degrees 12 minutes to 15 degrees 24 minutes and so on till the 75th Nadi amsha is from 29 degrees 48 minutes to 30 degrees and then the 76th Nadi amsha starts from the beginning of 0 degrees to 0 degrees 12 minutes, the 77th from 0 degrees 12 minutes to 0 degrees 24 minutes and so on till the 150th one is from 14 degrees 48 minutes to 15 degrees. Thus it can be seen that 1st Nadi amsha in Aries, the 150th Nadi amsha in Taurus and the 76th Nadi amsha in Gemini are the same. But it does not seem logical to apply this to all moveable, fixed and dual rashis. There are four sets of moveable, fixed and dual rashis in the zodiac. They are Aries-Taurus-Gemini, Cancer-Leo-Virgo, Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius, and Capricorn-Aquarius-Pisces. The above logic applies only within each set. The 1st Nadi amsha of Cancer, 150th Nadi amsha of Leo, the 76th Nadi amsha of Virgo would be the same. The 1st Nadi amsha of Libra, the 150th Nadi amsha of Scorpio, the 76th Nadi amsha of Sagittarius would-be the same. The 1st Nadi amsha of Capricorn, the 150th Nadi amsha of Aquarius, the 76th adi amsha of Pisces would be the same.

Table of Nadi Amshas

For ready reference, the table of Nadi amshas is given in Appendix I to this article, as taken from my article ” A Note on Nadi amshas” published by ” Vedic Astrology” magazine November-December 1998. The list is also given the in the book ” Devakeralam” by late Sri R. Shantanam and in ” The Astrological Magazine” of late Sri B. V. Raman. The names of the Nadi amshas may differ but the duration of the intervals are the same in all the sources.

Preperation of Nadi Amshas Chart

Before preparing the Nadi amsha chart, it is essential to rectify the given birth time as per my article ” Tatwa/Antartatwa Siddhata-Birth Rectification” published in ” The Times of Astrology” magazine June 2002. This method would rectify the birth time to match the male / female births as per the day, lagna, and Moon star and tatwa upto a difference of 24 seconds in birthtime.

An attempt is made here from fundamentals of explanation of Nadi amshas to give a methodology to prepare a Nadi amsha chart for different sets moveable, fixed and dual rashis.

Moveable Rashis

In moveable rashis, the Nadi amshas are counted clockwise from the beginning to the end of the rashi. Hence in Aries moveable rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha falls in Aries itself, the 2nd I Taurus, the 3rd in Gemini and so on till the 150thfall in Virgo. In Cancer moveable rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha falls in Cancer, the 2nd in Leo, the 3rd in Virgo and so on till the last 150th falls in Sagittarius. In Libra moveable rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha falls in Libra, the 2nd in Scorpio, the 3rd in Sagittarius and so on till the 150th falls in Pisces. In Capricorn moveable rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha falls in Capricorn, the 2nd in Aquarius, the 3rd in Pisces and so on till the 150th falls in Gemini. That means, if Ascendant (lagna) or any other planet in rashi chart in Aries rashi is in 1st Nadi amsha of 0 degrees to 0 degrees 12 minutes, it falls in Aries rashi itself in Nadi amsha chart, if from 0-12 to 0-24 it falls in Taurus in Nadi chart, and so on till if it is between 29-48 to 39 degrees it should be place in Virgo in Nadi chart. Similarly the ascendant or any other planet in Cancer, Libra or Capricorn in rashi chart should be place in Nadi chart depending on the degrees and minutes in rashi chart and the number of the Nadi amsha.

Fixed Rashis

In fixed rashis, the Nadi amshas are counted anti-clockwise from the end to the beginning of the rashi. In Taurus fixed rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha of 29-48 to 30 degrees is the same as the 150th Nadi amsha of 29-48 to 30 degrees in Aries moveable rashi. The 150th Nadi amsha in Taurus from 0 degrees to 0-0:12 is the same as the 1srt Nadi amsha of 0 degrees to 0-0:12 in Aries. As already explained above, 150th Nadi amsha of Aries falls in Virgo and 1st falls in Aries. Therefore, the 1st Nadi amsha of Taurus should start from Virgo and go anti-clockwise, the 2nd from 29-36 to 29-48 in Leo and so on till the 150th of 0 degrees to 0-0:12 falls in Aries. Suppose if ascendant or any planet id in 10 -58 in Taurus, it falls in the 96th Nadi amsha in Taurus from 10-48 to 11 degrees and so count 96 anti-clockwise from Virgo, which would be Libra. Therefore, the ascendant or any planet in 10-58 in Taurus in rashi chart should be placed in Libra in Nadi amsha chart.

Similarly in the second set of moveable-fixed-dual rashis of Cancer-Leo-Virgo, the 1st Nadi amsha of Leo is the same as the 1450th Nadi amsha of Cancer. The 150th Nadi amsha of cancer if Sagittarius. So the counting of Nadi amshas in Leo should start from Sagittarius anti-clockwise. If the ascendant or any planet is in 20-51 in Leo, it falls in the 46th Nadi amsha of 20-28 to 21degrees and so count 46 anti-clockwise from Sagittarius, which would be Pisces. Therefore, the ascendant or any planet in 20-51 in Leo in rashi chart should be place in Pisces in Nadi amsha chart.

Similarly in the third set of Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius, the 150th Nadi amsha of Libra falls in Pisces and so the counting for Nadi amshas in Scorpio should start from Pisces anti-clockwise. F ascendant or any planet is in 10-58 in Scorpio, which would be the 96th Nadi amsha and so count 96 anti-clockwise from Pisces, which would be Aries. Therefore, the ascendant or any planet in 10-58 in Scorpio in rashi chart should be placed in Aries in Nadi amsha chart.

Similarly in the fourth set of Capricorn-Aquarius-Pisces, the counting for Nadi amshas in Aquarius shold start form Gemini which is the 150th in Capricorn. If ascendant or any planet were in 24-40 in Aquarius, it would be in 27th Nadi amsha and so count 27 anti-clockwise from Gemini, which would be Aries. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in 24-40 in Aquarius in rashi chart should be placed in Aries in Nadi amsha chart.

Thus the crux is that if the ascendant of any planet is in Taurus, the counting of Nadi amsha of that should start from Virgo anti-clockwise, if in Leo start counting from Sagittarius anti-clockwise, if in Scorpio start counting from Pisces anti-clockwise and if in Aquarius start counting from Gemini anti-clockwise.

Dual Rashis

In dual rashis, the Nadi amshas are counted clockwise from the middle to the end of the rashi and then counting continued from the beginning to the middle of the rashi. In Gemini dual rashi, the 1st Nadi amsha of 15 to 15-12 is the same as the 76th Nadi amsha of 15 to 15-12 in Aries moveable rashi. The 75th Nadi amsha of Gemini from 29-48 to 30 degrees is same as the 150th in Aries. The 76th Nadi amsha in Gemini from 0 degrees to 0-12 is same as the 1srt in Aries. The 150th Nadi amsha in Gemini from 14-48 to 15 degrees is same as the 75th in Aries. As already seen in Aries, the 76th Nadi amsha falls in Cancer, the 150th in Virgo, and the 1srt in Aries and the 75th in Gemini. So the 1st Nadi amsha in Gemini should fall in Cancer, 75th in Virgo, 76th in Aries and 150th in Gemini. So the counting of Nadi amshas in Gemini should start form Cancer clockwise from the 1srt Nadi amsha till the 75th in Virgo. The 76th in Gemini should start clockwise from Aries till the 150th in Gemini. Suppose the ascendant or any planet is in 18-27 in Gemini, it falls in the 18th Nadi amsha in Gemini from 18-24 to18-36 and so count 18 clockwise from Cancer, which would be Sagittarius. Therefore, the ascendant or any planet in 18-27 in Gemini in rashi chart should be placed in Sagittarius in Nadi chart. Suppose the ascendant or any planet is in 1-10 in Gemini, it falls in the 82nd Nadi amsha in Gemini from 1 degree to 1-12 and so count 82 clockwise from Aries taking 76 as Aries, which would be Virgo. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in 1-10 in Gemini in rashi chart should be placed in Virgo in Nadi chart.

Similarly in the second set of moveable-fixed-dual rashis of Cancer-Leo-Virgo, the 1st Nadi amsha in Virgo is same as the 76th in Cancer, 75th in Virgo is same as 150th in Cancer, 76th in Virgo is same as 1st in Cancer and the 150th in Virgo is same as the 75th in Cancer. The 76th in Cancer falls in Libra. O the counting of Nadi amshas in Virgo should start from Libra clockwise till the 75th falls in Sagittarius. The 76th in Virgo should start clockwise from Cancer till the 150th in Virgo. Suppose if the ascendant or any planet is in 18-27 in Virgo, it falls in the 18th Nadi amsha in Virgo, and to count 18 from Libra clockwise, which would e Pisces. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in 18-27 in Virgo in rashi chart should be placed in Pisces in Nadi chart.

Suppose the ascendant or any planet is in 1-10 in Virgo, it falls in the 82nf Nadi amsha in Virgo and so count 82 clockwise from Cancer taking 76 as Cancer, which would be Sagittarius. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in 1-10 in Virgo in rashi chart should be place in Sagittarius in Nadi chart.

Similarly in the third set of Libra-Scorpio-Sagittarius, the 1st Nadi amsha in Sagittarius is same as the 76th in Libra, the 75th in Sagittarius is same as 150th in Libra, 76th in Sagittarius is same as 1st in Libra and the 150th in Sagittarius is same s 75th in Libra. The 76th in Libra falls in Capricorn. So the counting of Nadi amshas in Sagittarius from 1st to 75th should start clockwise from Capricorn till the 75th in Pisces. The 76th Sagittarius should start clockwise from Libra till the 150th in Sagittarius. Suppose if the ascendant or any planet is in 18-27 in Sagittarius, it falls in the 18th Nadi amsha of Sagittarius and so count 18 from Capricorn clockwise, which would be Gemini. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in Sagittarius in 18-27 in rashi chart should be placed in Gemini in Nadi chart. Suppose if the ascendant or any planet is in 1-10 in Sagittarius, it falls in 82nd Nadi amsha in Sagittarius and so count 82from Libra clockwise taking 786 as Libra, which would be Pisces and therefore should be place n Pisces in Nadi chart.

Similarly in the fourth set of Capricorn-Aquarius-Pisces, the counting of Nadi amshas in Pisces from 1st to 75th should start from Aries clockwise till the 75th falls in Gemini. The 76th Nadi amsha in Pisces should start clockwise from Capricorn till the 150th falls in Pisces. Therefore the ascendant or any planet in 23-51 in Pisces falls in 45th Nadi amsha in Pisces from 23-48 to 2 degrees. So count 45 from Aries clockwise, which would be Sagittarius and therefore should be placed in Sagittarius in Nadi chart. If ascendant or any planet is in 1-10 in Pisces, it falls in 82nd Nadi amsha in Pisces and so count 82 from Capricorn clockwise taking 76th as Capricorn, which would be Gemini and therefore should be placed in Gemini in Nadi chart.

Example of Nadi Chart

Based on the above methodology, the Nadi chart is given below for the ascendant and planets in rashi chart.

Rasi Chart: Libra-Ascendant 5-54, Venus 7-4, Rahu 27-16; Capricorn- moon 20-9; Aquarius- Jupiter 2-7; Pisces- Saturn 23-51; Aries- Ketu 27-16; Leo- Mercury 5-59, Mars 6-33, Sun 20-51

Nadi Chart: Pisces-Ascendant, Sun, Mars; Taurus-Moon; Leo- Ketu; Virgo-Venus; Scorpio- Jupiter; Sagittarius-Mercury, Saturn; Aquarius-Rahu

Interpretation of Nadi Chart

The person of the above rashi chart is a mechanical engineer retired from Government Defense Research service. After retirement he continued his hobby of astrology doing researh, writing articles, giving lectures and consultations, getting awards in astrology. He also knows Vedanta and Veena musical instrument to some extent. He has own house and vehicles. He ahs only one son settled abroad. He lives on pension I his own house with his wife studying astrology and Vedanta. He also travels in India and abroad. He ahs moderate health.

The above rashi and Nadi charts are broadly analyzed to check which one would give better interpretation.

In the rashi chart, the 10th house is vacant aspected by the 10th lord Moon. The 10th lords in 4th alone in Moon star without any aspects from any other planet. From this, it is difficult to interpret his activities in Defence research, astrology and Vedanta. Venus in Libra ascendant in own house has not given any proficiency in his musical interests. The Moon in 4th, the 4th not aspected by any planet ad the 4th lord Saturn in 6th house aspected by Mars should have obstructed having his own house, vehicles and education. Jupiter in 5th ouse aspected by Sun, Mercury and Mars and the 5th lord Saturn in 6th house with exchange (parivartana) with Jupiter should have given more children. The 2nd lord Mars, 9th lord Mercury and 11th lord Sun in 11th should have given big wealth and prosperity. Ascendant lord Venus in the ascendant and 6th lord Jupiter In 5th with exchange with Saturn should have given good health. The 9th and 12th lord Mercury with enemy mars should have obstructed his travels.

In the Nadi chart, Saturn and Mercury in 10th house, 10th and 1st lord Jupiter in Scorpio of Mars with exchange with Mars would give better interpretation about his activities in Defense research, astrology and Vedanta. Debilitated Venus has not given much progress in musical pursuits. The 4th house aspected by 4th lord Mercury, 2nd and 9th lord mars, 11th lord Saturn has given good house, vehicles and education. The 5th house aspected by Jupiter and 5th lord Moon exalted has given one son. The 2nd and 9th lord Mars in ascendant associated with 6th lord Sun and 11th and 12th lord Saturn have given moderate wealth and prosperity. The 6th lord Sun in ascendant aspected by 8th lord debilitated Venus has given moderate health though ascendant lord Jupiter aspecting the ascendant. Jupiter in 9th and 9th lord Mars in ascendant with exchange with ascendant lord Jupiter and 12th aspected by 11th and 12th lord Saturn has given the travels.

The transits of planets in both the charts can also be compared to check the results though it is not done here.

Thus from the above broad analysis the Nadi chart gives better interpretation than the rashi chart.

Conclusion

Since the Nadi amshas differentiate upto 48 seconds in birth time, it is the subtlest available means to interpret better results. When there is no published literature to correctly interpret the all the other known divisional charts, particularly whether lordship of houses can be taken or not in the divisional charts, it is not claimed that the analysis of the Nadi chart as given above is correct. It is also not claimed that the above methodology to prepare the Nadi chart is correct. The idea is writing this article is to stimulate the experts astrology to come out with better research to delve deep into this subject to interpret better results by studying all the divisional charts including the subtlest Nadi amsha chart and to publish the same for the benefit of others. The subject of astrology is already having its natural death with superficial knowledge and interpretations of commercial interest and without any deep research and published literature. It is an earnest request once again to all the astrologers and other government and private organizations to do deep research in astrology and publish the same to revive this great Divine subject.

Stellar Effects

(Notes of Lecture given at Indian council of Astrological Studies, Hyderabad, India)

My Guru, Late Dr.B.V.Raman, told me to read the book “Nadi Jyothisha or The Stellar Astrology” by Late Sri R.Gopala Krishna Rao (Meena) published in 1954. It is out of print now. Fortunately I could get Xerox copy of the same from Ranjan Publications, Delhi. Sri R.Gopala Krishna Rao in the Preface of his book writes ” The method I have pursued and which I have presented in the pages of this book, is an ancient one. It has hitherto been kept confidential without being brought to light. The authors of this method have recorded Nadis on palm leaves. What was possible to Sages is equally possible to those who take pains to investigate and understand the science correctly by the method herein revealed. It is not only the constellations, which are to be studied, but also, the characters (Gunas) of the planets are to be reckoned in moulding the results. The usual Guna of a planet may appear to be good in ( Sthoola) the outward appearance, but internally ( Sookshma) it may not be so.

I give below some of the extracts from this book for your further study and research.

Gunas

Jupiter and Mercury are Sattvikas. Sun, Moon and Venus are Rajasas. Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are Thamasas. By Sathvikas is meant planets, who are, by nature , pure in character, that is, they will be inclined to do good.

By Rajasas is meant planets who by nature have both good and bad characters.

By Thamasas is meant planets who have by nature bad characters only.

Sathvic planets give good results when they remain pure and unalloyed in Sathvic nature. The same applies to Rajasic and Thamasic planets. It is not very harmful if the Sathvic and Rajasic planets get Rajasic and Sathvic natures respectively, but they should never acquire Thamasic nature. And the Thamasic planets should never get Rajasic nature if they are to give satisfactory results.

Example1: Aries lagna, Jupiter in Aries lagna is good in places from 266deg 40 min to 280 degrees. Jupiter is Uttarashada in Sun star. But if Sun is in combination with Saturn, an inimical atmosphere arises out of that combination and mixture of good and bad results follow. If this Sun is in own housewith Saturn, good results will be greater then bad by reason of Sun remaining in his own house and Saturn being weak. If this Sun is in Capricorn with Saturn, bad results will be greater than good by reason of Sun being weak and Saturn being strong in his own house. If Sun is aspected by Saturn or Sun is in Saturn star, mixed results follow. Even if Sun is alone but in debilitation, good results re meagre. If debilitated Sun is aspected by Moon, friend of Sun and lord of 4th house, the friendly rays of Moon cause good effects.

Example 2: We have seen planet in good constellation giving mixed results. We shall see how mixed results occur even when planet remains in bad constellation. Scorpio lagna, Moon in Scorpio debilitated in Jyeshta Mercury star. Mercury is with Jupiter in Sagittarius. Jupiter is in his own house. Jupiter is a Yogakaraka for this lagna. Hence good effects prevail by reason of the good influence of Jupiter on Moon through Mercury and his star Jyeshta.

How to examine the Bhava of a horoscope- Jeeva (soul) and Sharira ( body)

Sagittarius lagna, lord of 7th Mercury is in Sravana Mercury star. So Moon becomes the Jeeva of the 7th bhava. Further Moon is n Bharani Venus star andVenus becomes the Sharira of the 7th bhava. If this Moon is with Mars in Aries, Mars is the most powerful planet for being in own house. Thus Mars becomes the Jeep. If Mars is in Critic Sun star, Sun becomes the Sharira. If Mercury is in Scorpio in own star Jyeshta, Mercury himself becomes the Jeeva. In such cases the lord of the house in which the Jeeva is situated becomes the Sharira.

Pisces lagna, Jupiter lord of the 10th bhava is in own star Purvabhadra in Pisces. Jupiter becomes Jeeva. Besides Jupiter occupies his own house Pisces. So Jupiter himself becomes Sharira also.

For benefic results, the Jeep and Sharira of the bhava should be situated inbenefic houses. But in cases where either Jeeva or Sharira is rendered weak, the results will be bad. Results do not depend solely on the situation of the Jeeva and Sharira, the Gunas acquired by both the Jeeva and sharira on account of their situation play a greater part in changing the results. Further, if the Jeeva and Sharira are inimically disposed toward each other, the results will not be good. Excellent results follow, when, in addition to the above, the Jeeva and Sharira are in their friendly, own or exalted houses, in order, provided that they are not aspected by or in conjunction with the particular malefics of the native’s lagna.

House of Finance ( Dhana Bhava)

Example1: Gemini lagna, Moon is in Pushyami star. and lord Moon is in own house, but in Saturn star. Saturn is a Thamasi and lord of 8th in additon. Hence the native lost thousand by reason of the bank going into liquidation where he had deposited.

Example2: Sagittarius lagna, 2nd lord Saturn is in 12th house, which is Vyaya Sthana, Expenditure house. Yet the native’s finances are satisfactory. Saturn is in Jyeshta Mercury star. Mercury is 7th lord and Saturn gets the influence of 7th Quadrant and Saturn in 7th is very powerful.

Example3: Lei lagna, 2nd lord Mercury is in Virgo exalted, but in Chitta Mars star. Mercury and Mars are enemies. Hence there are the bad finances of the native.

Example4: Libra Laguna, 2nd lord Mars is Scorpio in own house, but I Visakha star of Jupiter. Jupiter is not a Yogakaraka to this lagna and further Jupiter is lord of 3rd and 6th houses. If this mars is in Jyeshta star of Mercury, who is a Yogakaraka to this lagna, there will be good finances. If this Mercury is in lagna, which is a powerful place for Mercury (Jupiter and Mercury are powerful in lagna kendra) or if this Mercury is in Leo in 11th house, the native of the former case will have more wealth than the latter case.

Similarly other bhavas are to be judged.

How to predict the results of a Dasa

Before commencing to predict the results of a Dasa, the ownership, situation, aspects on etc of the lord of the Dasa should be noted. The Guna (nature) of the lord of the Dasa should also be considered. Further it must be decided, to which bhava the lord of the Dasa is the Jeeva as thenative will enjoy the results of that bhava during the said period.

Example: Leo lagna, Mercury is in Hasta star and Saturn is in Sravana star. Both are in Moon star. Moon is in Mula star of Ketu. So Moon becomes the Jeeva of both the 2nd and 7th bhavas. Moon being in Ketu star becomes Thamasa in nature. Hence during Moon Dasa the native was separated from his wife and sustained financial losses.

Similarity in planetary influences indicating same events in parents’ and children’s’ charts.t

Example: In father’s chart, Scorpio lagna, Education bhava 4th lord Saturn is in Jyeshta star of Mercury. Mercury becomes the Jeeva of this bhava. He is lord of 8th house and is conjunction with Sun and Jupiter in the 12th bhava. Hence thefather did not have much of education. In son’s chart, Taurus lagna, the 9th house of father is Capricorn. The 4th house from Capricorn will indicate the father’s education. The 4th house is Aries and Mars its lord is in Kritika Sun star. Hence Sun becomes the Jeeva of the Vidya bhava of the father. Sun is in conjunction with Jupiter lord of 8th bhava. This indicates also poor education of the father.

Mixed results in Dasas of Dasanathas in mixed sways

If a planet is situated in a star of a bad and enemy planet, the results will be bad in the first portion of the formers Dasa and good results will be forthcoming only in the latter period of the Dasa . If a planet is situated in the star of a good planet, who is himself in combination with a bad planet, the Dasa will commence with good results, but the latter portion of the Dasa will be bad.

Example1: Aries lagna, Mercury is in Virgo in Uttara Sun star. Sun is in combination with a bad planet Rahu in Leo. Hence in Mercury Dasa from the beginning till the commencement of Rahu Bhukti, the native enjoyed a good official career. But in Rahu Bhukti, the native lost his position all of sudden.

Example2: Aries lagna, Jupiter is in Satabhisha star of Rahu a Thamasic planet. But Rah is in combination with Moon in Taurus a Yogakartaka for this chart. Hence the first half of Jupiter Dasa was a life of miseries to the native while in the latter half he enjoyed good life.

Example 3: Taurus lagna, Moon is in Aswini Ketu star. Further Moon is the 3rd lord and remains in the 12rth bhava. Yet the person rose in rank as an officer in Moon Dasa itself. The reason is Ketu is in combination with Saturn 9th and 10th lord in Virgo. Dharma Karma Yoga effect on Moon has taken place. Hence there is fine result in Moon Dasa. This is about the bright and good side in Moon Dasa. But we should not forget the dark side of Aswan Moon. Although the native rose in rank in Moon Dasa, he had the bad effect of theAswini Moon also. For a time he was bedridden. And one noteworthy thing was that his attempt to go to foreign countries for bettering his prospects failed.

Last days of life

This is judged from the 8th house the house of longevity. Jeeva and Sharira of a bhava are the chief promoters of that bhava. Their very names suggest that Jeeva controls the intrinsic effects in the soul while the Sharira the outward things that pertain to the body. When we think of that with respect thehouse of longevity the 8th bhava, the Jeeva represents the soul while the Sharira represents the body and constitutioin that preserves the soul.

Between the two if anyone is weak, things representative of it will suffer and by a comparative study of the Jeeva and Sahrira of the 8th bhava the mode of death may be judged as follows:

  1. Jeeva weaker than Sharira gives short illness and if the disparity is too great the period of illness will be far lessened.
  2. Jeeva stronger than Sharira gives long illness before death and the wider the disparity between the two the longer would be the duration of illness.
  3. Both Jeeva and Sharira are equally strong or weak gives sudden death without illness with this difference that in the case of strength there will be no pain endured at the last moment while in the other case terrible bodily suffering will be felt.

Example1: Gemini lagna, Saturn in lagna in Aridra star of Rahu. Rahu is in Virgo in Uttara star of Sun. Sun is in Libra in debilitation. The Jeeva and Sharira of the 8th bhava are Rahu and Sun respectively. Between the two, Sun is in debilitation and hence awfully weaker than Rahu. As it is sharira that is weaker he suffered for six months and died in Sun Dasa.

Shanti Karma

For the evil caused by Jupiter for Libra lagna during his period, Shanti will be effective if done to Jupiter alone as he is malefic by himself and caused the result independently. For Sagittarius lagna and Jupiter related with Venus causing evil during Jupiter Dasa, it is evident the evil is caused by the malefic Venus and not by Jupiter. In this case, Shanti should be done to Venus and not to Jupiter. The relationship can be by conjunction, aspect and stellar connection.

During the period of the same Jupiter for Sagittarius Lagna (Jupiter is in Bharani star 3rd pada), the malefic effect will be seen in the 3rd quarter of Jupiter Dasa. When that Jupiter was showing himself to be benefic till that time, he has suddenly changed his colours has caused evil. Does it not show that somebody else causes the evil by relationship? It is evident that Venus for Sagittarius Laguna is a great malefic being the 6th and 11th lord and Jupiter being placed in such a malefic’s star has attained Venus colours during the chara period of his Dasa. Then to whom should Shanti be done? Evidently for Venus.

Worship of Deities may be done as follows: Jupiter and Mercury – Vishnu; Moon- Parvati; Venus-Lakshmi; Mars-Kumaraswami; Sun-Eswara; Saturn-Yama.
If they are further joined or related with other planets, the combinations may be as follows:
Mars and Mercury-Urge Vishnu therefore Narasimhaswamy; Moon and Rahu-Ugra Devi that is Durga, Kalika, Chamundeswari etc.

Many other points:

Many other important points are given in this book about different bhavas such as number of coborns, education, vehicles, property, hospital births, whether the native is first wife’s or second wife’s child, number and sex of children, different diseases, multiplemarriages, divorces, selection of the partner from two horoscopes, profession, one planet control, parivartana effect etc.

Conclusion

Since it is difficult to cover all points given in the book, it is worth that the book may be obtained from Ranjan Publications, 16 Ansari Road, Daryagunj, New Delhi- 110002, if it is available and studied thoroughly for predictive purposes.

Some Predictive Techniques

(Notes of Lecture given at Indian Council of Astrological Studies, Hyderabad India)

Rectification of birth time

First of all, rectify the given birth time of male / female as per Tatwa/ Antar Tatwa Siddhanta to match for male/ female birth with respect to birth day, lagna, Moon star lord, Sunrise. (Refer my article in my website) This would give rectification upto 24 seconds.

Birth chart

Prepare the birth chart for this rectified birth time, placing the lagna and planets in respective rasis with their degrees in order.

Angry Planets

Find the Angry planets responsible for bad karma in the past life causing sufferings in the present life. Angry planets are: natural benefic planets in 6th, 8th and 12th houses and natural malefic planets in 1st 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th houses (2nd, 3rd 11th houses are neutral) from Chathra, Arudha, Moon and Birth lagnas for wrath from Gods, Brahmins, Enemies and Public respectively. If the indicator planet is in Moon sign, the sins committed are deliberately committed and if in the house of Sun the sins are ignorantly or accidentally got.

Arudha lagna- the point obtained by counting as many signs from the place of birth lagna lord is removed from birth lagna. Example: if lagna lord is in 4th, the Arudha is 7th from lagna, Exceptions: if lagna lord in lagna itself then Arudha lagna is 4th from lagna, if lagna lord is in 7th then Arudha is 10th from lagna.

Veedhi lagna- If Sun is in Taurus, Gemini, Cancer or Leo, Veedhi lagna is Aries. If Sun is in Scorpio, Capricorn, or Aquarius Veedhi lagna is Gemini. If Sun is in the other signs, the Veedhi lagna is Taurus.

Chathra lagna- Count the number of signs from Arudha lagna to birth lagna and then count this number from Veedhi lagna to get Chathra lagna.

Thought (5th house), Word (2nd house), Deed (10th house)

If a weak malefic is in 5th, the sins are outcome of mental actions, if in 2nd due to Words cruel and unwanted, if in 10th due to fruits of bodily actions. If malefics are in 5th, 2nd, and 10th, evil karma from all the three of thought, word, and deed. If malefics are in 2nd, 5th and benefics in 10th, work is done unwillingly complaining bitterly. If malefics are in 5th and the benefics in 2nd and 10th the duties are done carelessly and indifferently without proper attention and this may bring loss of children since 5th represents children and thought or attention. If malefics are in 2nd and benefics in 5th and 10th, the evil has issued out of words, which may bring loss of money since 2nd represents money.

Remedial measures

To the angry planets do concerned pujas, give concerned charities, pray concerned Gods etc to lessen the evil effects in the present life. Also take care not to do any further evils to Gods, Brahnins, Enemies and Public by thought, word and deed to avoid any further curse or wrath from them in the next life. Thus nullify all bad Karma in due course by completing the good Karmas also, one can attain Salvation without rebirth.

Karakatwas (Significations) of Planets

To analyze a bhava, the planets in the bhava, lord of the bhava and karaka planet for that bhava are seen. Karaka planet is the most important in one school of nadi astrology.

For example, out of electic bulb in the room, fuse box in the house and transformer in the area, the transformer is the most important to get the electric current into the house. Ofcourse if all thse are good, the results will be better.

Note down all the karakatwas of planets. For example, Saturn karmakaraka, Jupiter Jiva and Jnana karaka, Ketu Mokshakaraka, Venus kalatrakaraka, Mercury vidyakaraka, Mars bhatrukaraka, Sun Atma and Pitrukaraka, Moon matru and manah karaka etc.

Combination of planets

Planets in the same direction of rasis or in trines are supposed to be together. Directions Aries, Leo, Sagittarius – East; Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn-South; Gemini, Libra, Aquarius- West; Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces- North

Note down the combination in order as per degrees for analysis. For example, Sun+Moon indicate father (Sun) travels (Moon). Moon + Mars indicate mother (Moon) courageous (Mars). For female Mars+ Ketu+Venus indicate disturbances ( Ketu) between husband (Mars) and Jeeva self ( Venus for females). Jupiter+ Saturn indicates respect (Jupiter) in work (Saturn) Dharma Karma Yoga. Life (Jupiter) Vayu Air (Saturn) gives rheumatic, asthma, likes to eat relishingly, should not eat more oily foods because fatty, gastric in stomach, thighs problem, etc. Venus+Rahu indicate some difficulties in domestic life, illhealth or death to wife, Rahu being retrograde swallows Venus wife. Venus+ Moon gives wealth (Venus) and expenditure (Moon). Saturn+Sun+ Moon indicate work (Saturn), government (Sun) travels (Moon) highly influenced person connected with government and nature of work involves travels.

Planets in the opposite houses and in the adjacent houses also influence.

Saturn decides the fate and duties and to what extent other planets cooperate with Saturn the different planetary combinations involving Saturn in birth chart decides this.

Retrograde planets

They are also considered as being in the sign behind them. Retro, retro-direct to the original degree wherefrom it became retro and then Direct are to be considered.

Stationary (still) or Sthambana planets

Planets also remain stationary for sometime after being in motion for sometime, till their mission gets fulfilled and after their aim is achieved then proceed further.

Parivartana (exchange) of planets

Planets in one another’s house are in parivartana and they are also considered as being in their own houses.

Some rules of judgement

When planets eventhough located in their own signs or friendly signs or exaltation signs cannot yield full benefic results when enemy planets are located either behind or next to them and they remain neutral being unable to do either good or bad.

When a benefic planet is hemmed in between two enemy planets, there will be impediments to the benefic effect of benefic planet.

When an enemy planet located in 2nd sign to the sign where a planet located is retrograde, the planet in the first sign gets affected and yields malefic results.

A planet cannot yield its results if there are no planets located in the 7th, 2nd, 12th and 5th signs therefrom. Even if it yields its effects will be most minimum. But this planet if it gets planetary interchange with some other planet can work wonders and can be most effective.

If the combust planet (when nearer to Sun) were to be in planetary interchange with some other planet though the planetary interchange has no significance the combust planet yields surprising results.

If the combust planet has in combination with friendly planets, the bad effects of planetary combustion will be pronounced.

Exaltation of a planet gets cancelled if retrograde. If such an exalted retro planet has to its 12th sign an enemy planet, it is as though in a position of fearsome exaltation. If there is an enemy planet in 2nd and 7th, the exaltation of that particular planet is incomplete.

If a particular planet has in its 12th sign enemy planet, it is to be presumed that both planets will yield minimum effects. But if the enemy planet in 12th sign is retrograde, the planet located next to it will yield good results.

If out of the two planets together, the planet, which has more longitude, is an enemy planet and is retro the planet which is less in longitude will yield most minimum effect.

If out he two planets in a planetary interchange, one of the planets is debilitated, the debilitation gets cancelled sue to the planetary exchange. Also if the debilitated planet has a friendly or benefic planet with it or in the 7th or 5th therefrom or aspect then the debilitation gets cancelled.

Transits of planets or Gochara

The natal birth chart is made use of to predict future events both pleasant and unpleasant in respect of education, profession, marriage, children, house, money, health, and many other aspects, which are foretold on this basis. But the timings of these several events both pleasant and unpleasant are dependant on the basis of daily, monthly and annual movement of the several planets, It is these effects that are called the planetary transit effects.

During the planetary transit for the first time after the native’s birth, the transit effects will be ordinary. But when the same planet transit for the second time the effects will be maximum. During their transit for the third time in the native’s life the effects will be medium. This is because the native’s age will be tender during the first transit, youthful during second transit and will be attaining old age during the third transit in case of major planets like Jupiter and Saturn.

For example, suppose in a native’s birth chart, Mars is located at the 15th degree in Capricorn. Suppose during transit Saturn enters the same sign and it requires another 15 months approximately for Saturn to transit exact degree portion of Mars. So, we have to predict that the consultant native has to undergo lot of hardships in his professional field during these 15 months. Similarly Saturn transits sign where a benefic planet is located we have to predict beneficial results.

Take another example. Suppose in birth chart Moon is located at Aswini 2 star and suppose the planet Rahu transits this Aswini 2 star pada during transit, we have then to predict that native is suffering from mental delusions, fear complex and a sort of mental gloom during this period. It is only when the transiting Rahu moves away from the Aswini star that the native can experience favorable effects like mental fortitude, peace of mind and other auspicious results.

Like this if during transits suppose two mutually inimically disposed malefic planets together transit a particular sign and suppose benefic planets like Venus or Jupiter transit the 7th sign therefrom. In such circumstances, disastrous effects of the transit of such malefic planets will be checkmated.

Lordship Planets and Strengths of Bhavas

In traditional astrology, the location of the lord of a particular Brava in another Brava and the strengths of the bhavas also play a role in predictions. For example, if lord of the lagna (1st bhava) is placed in the 6th bhava, on may get into debts, diseases and enemies (6th bhava). If the 1st bhava is stronger than the 6th bhava in Shadbalas of bhavas, one may overcome debts, diseases and enemies due to self-effort. If the 6th lord is in the 11th bhava, one may gain (11th) through debts, diseases and enemies (6th). If 9th lord is in 2nd, one may get wealth (2nd) from father (9th). If the 12th bhava is stronger than 2nd and 11th bhavas, expenses (12th) may be more than wealth (2nd) and gains and income (11th).

Transits of planets also can be judged similarly. If the 1st lord transits over 10th bhava or 10th lord, one may get professional success by self-effort. Ofcourse transits of other planets also are to be seen simultaneously for favourable or unfavourable results.

Conclusion

Angry planets and Some predictive techniques are given to stimulate thinking process to proceed and do further research. Many birth charts with known events may be studied to consolidate one’s predictive techniques. However, certain imaginative and intuitive processes along with the place, time (Desha kala many ritya) and background of the person, are also required by praying the Navagrahas, Istha Devata and Meditation daily.

Angry Planets

(Notes of Lecture given at Indian Council of Astrological Studies, Hyderabad, India)

Introduction

Reincarnation is one of the theories of Hindu Philosophy. All beings take fresh births to experience the results of their actions (Karma) done in their previous birth. Even if there is a little Karma left over, it has to be experienced. The Karma can be either good or bad giving favorable or unfavorable results. There is nothing much to worry as long as the Karma is good for normal human beings. The human being suffers from misfortunes in the shape of loss of wealth, loss of name, death of kith and kin, diseases etc., as a result of bad Karma in his previous life.

The position of planets in the birth chart would give a clue to find out the cause of one’s good or bad karma done in the past life. When the planets are favorably placed, they indicate fruition of good Karma, otherwise that of evil Karma. The planets responsible for bad Karma in the past life would result in the person suffering from afflictions in the present life and these planets are called angry planets.

It is believed that Atma Jnana (Self-Realization) can however overcome the effects of the good or bad karma. But many of the human beings cannot reach that state of Atma Jnana. So doing some remedial measures to these angry planets may reduce the evil effects due to the Angry Planets.

The astrologer should, carefully divine whether one’s past karma is favorable or unfavorable and in what manner it expresses itself.

Angry Planets

The Angry Planets causing evil Karma are the natural benefic planets deposited in 6th, 8th and 12th houses and the natural malefic planets deposited in the 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th and 10th houses, from Chathra rasi, Arudha, Moon and Lagna. The deposition of planets in the 2nd, 3rd and 11th may be taken as neutral, since nothing is specifically mentioned about them in the available literature.

Chathra Rashi

The Chathra rasi is the sign counted from the Veedhi rasi. Count the number of signs from Arudha lagna to the birth lagna and then count this number from the Veedhi rasi to get the Chathra rasi. For example, if Arudha lagna is Capricorn and Veedhi rasi is Aries, birth lagna is Libra, count from Arudha lagna to birth lagna from Capricorn to Libra, which is 10, and then count 10 signs from Veedhi rasi of Aries which is Capricorn and so Chathra rasi is Capricorn. Similarly if birth lagna is Cancer, Arudha lagna is Aries, Veedhi rasi is Gemini, and then Chathra rasi is Virgo.

Veedhi Rasi

If Sun is in Taurus, Gemini, Cancer or Leo, the Veedhi rasi is Aries. If Sun is in Scorpio, Capricorn or Aquarius, Veedhi rasi is Gemini. If Sun is in the other signs, the Veedhi rasi is Taurus. For example, if Sun is in Leo, Veedhi rasi is Aries. If Sun is in Aquarius, Veedhi rasi is Gemini. If Sun is in Aries, Veedhi rasi is Taurus.

Arudha Lagna

Arudha lagna is the point obtained by counting as many signs from the place of the lord of the birth lagna is removed from birth lagna. Example is if the lord of the lagna is in the 4th, and then 7th from the lagna becomes the Arudha lagna. But the exceptions are if the lord of the lagna is in the lagna itself then the 4th from lagna becomes the Arudha lagna and if the lord of the lagna is in the 7th then the Arudha lagna will be the 10th from the lagna.

For example, if the lagna is Taurus and the lord of the lagna Venus is in Libra in 6th, the, count 6 sings from Libra and the Arudha lagna will be Pisces. If the lagna is Aries and lord of lagna Mars is in Cancer, then count 7 signs from Aries and the Arudha lagna will be Libra. If the lagna is Libra and lord of lagna Venus is in Libra itself, count 4 signs from Libra and the Arudha lagna will be Capricorn. If the lagna is Cancer and the lord of the lagna Moon is in Capricorn, count 10 signs from Cancer and the Arudha lagna will be Aries.

There may be some difference of opinions about fixing the Arudha lagna, as given above. The readers may use their own discretion about the rules they follow.

Categories of Karma

According to the disposition of the benefic and malefic planets in the birth chart from Chathra rasi, Arudha lagna, Moon or Birth lagna, the cause of the evil karma is ascertained. If benefics occupy 6th, 8th and 12th from Chathra rasi and malefics occupy 1st, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th 10th, the sins and consequent evil effects are due to the Gods’ wrath or fury of Gods. Here by Gods are also meant persons held in reverence such as parents, preceptors and elders. If the planets are found in the above places from Arudha lagna, the sins are the outcome of curses from Brahmins or Religious persons. If the planets occupy such places from Moon, the sins are due to the incantation (mantric) of enemies. If the planets are found in the above-mentioned places from birth lagna, the peoples’ hatred will be the cause.

Planets favorably placed, that is, benefics in 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th and malefics in 6th, 8th, 12th, indicate merit derived from good deeds.

The bad actions may be intentional or deliberate. They may also be either accidental or unintentional or done out of ignorance. They may also be both combined. If the indicator planet representing angry planets is in the Moon’s sign, the sins are deliberately committed, If the indicator planet is in the house of Sun, the sons are ignorantly or accidentally got.

Thought, Word, Deed

Whether deliberate or accidental, the karma can again be divided into three categories arising out of Thought, Word and Deed. It can arise from mental actions such as entertaining or harboring evil thought or wishing others evil. It can be due to verbal actions such as indulging in abusive and filthy language. It can also be arising from bodily actions such as causing physical injury.

Suppose one deliberately insults or assaults one’s parents or elders. Here the nature of the evil Karma is due to the intentional Word and Deed. The same is the case when the person harbors evil thoughts and the evil Karma is due to thought. If on the other hand, one uses impolite language towards an elder through ignorance or slip of tongue, the nature of Karma is accidental by thought or Deed. Theaggreived party feels pain and this rebounds on the perpetrator of the karma.

If a weak malefic is the 5th, the sins may be considered as the outcome of mental actions. If it is in the 2nd, they are the results of his words, cruel and unwanted. If it is in the 10th, they are the fruits of his bodily actions.

If some planets indicate deliberate actions and some planets indicate accidental actions, a certain delicate balancing is called for. If malefic occupy 5th, 2nd and 10th houses, evil karma would have emanated from all the three- Thought, Word and Deed respectively. If malefics occupy only the 2nd and 5th while benieics occupy the 10th, the work is done unwillingly, complaining bitterly. If malefics occupy the 5th house while good planets are in the 2nd and 10th, the duties are done carelessly or indifferently without proper attention and this may generally bring loss of children since 5th represents children. If malefics occupy 2nd while benefics join the 5th and 10th houses, the evil has issued out of words, which may bring about loss of money since 2nd represents money. If these malefic are in debilitation or occupy inimical places or combust, they cause intense evil. If benefics are in exaltation, in own or friendly houses, the good they give will also be great. On the contrary, if malefics are exalted and if benefics are debilitated, their effects will be little.

Examples of Angry Planets

Example I

Libra-lagna, Venus; Capricorn-Moon; Aquarius- Jupiter; Pisces- Saturn; Leo- Mercury, Mars, Sun;

In the above chart, the birth lagna is Libra. Lord of lagna Venus is in lagna Libra itself. Therefore counting 4 signs from Libra (as per the exception) the Arudha lagna is Capricorn counting 4 signs from Libra. Sun is in Leo and therefore the Veedhi rasi is Aries. Aurdha lagna to birth lagna is 10 signs and then counting 10 signs from Veedhi rasi of Aries , the Chathra rasi is Capricorn.

From Chathra rasi of Capricorn, the benefic Mercury is in Leo in 8th and the malefics Rahu and Ketu are in 10th and 4th. The other benefics Jupiter, Venus, Moon are in 2nd, 10th and 1st and the other malefics Saturn, mars, Sun are in 3rd, 8th from Chathra rasi of Capricorn. Therefore the Angry Planets due to Gods’ wrath are Mercury, Rahu and Ketu.

From Arudha lagna of Capricorn, again the angry planets due to Brahmins’ wrath are Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. Again from Moon in Capricorn, the angry planets due to enemies’ wrath are Mercury, Rahu and Ketu. From birth lagna of Libra, Rahu and Ketu are in 7th and 1st and hence the angry planets due to Public wrath are Rahu and Ketu since other benefic planets Moon, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury are in 1st, 4th, 5th, and 11th and the other malefic planets Saturn, Mars and Sun are in 6th and 11th houses.

Thus Mercury, Rahu and Ketu are the Angry planets for this horoscope due to curses from Gods, Brahmins, Enemies and Public in previous life, which would give sufferings in present life as per their placement and signification in the birth chart.

Example II

Cancer-Lagna; Scorpio- Rahu; Capricorn- Moon, Mars,Mercury; Aquarius- Sun; Pisces-Jupiter, Venus; Taurus-Ketu; Gemini-Saturn.

The birth lagna is Cancer. The Arudha lagna is Aries counting 10 signs from cancer as per exception. The Veedhi rasi is Gemini since Sun is in Aquarius. Arudha lagna to birth lagna is 4 signs and then counting 4 signs from Veedhi rasi of Gemini, the Chathra rasi id Virgo.

From Chathra rasi of Virgo, the malefics Mars, Ketu and Saturn are in 5th, 9th and 10th and therefore the angry planets due to Gods’ wrath are Mars, Saturn and Ketu. Since the benefics Moon, Jupiter and Venus are in 5th, 7th from Chathra rasi of Virgo and the other malefics of Rahu and Sun are 3rd and 6th.

From Arudha lagna, the benefics Jupiter and Venus are in the 12th and the malefic Mars is in 10th. Hence the angry planets due to Brahmins’ wrath are Jupiter, Venus and Mars, since other benefics Moon and Mercury are in the 10th and the other malefics Saturn, Rahu and Sun are in 3rd, 8th and 11th from Arudha lagna of Aries.

From Moon in Capricorn, themalefics Mars and Ketu are in 1st and 5th houses. The other malefics Sun, Saturn and Rahu are in 2nd, 6th and 11th and the benefics Moon, Jupiter and Venus are in 1st and 3rd from Moon. Therefore the angry planets due to the enemies’ wrath are Mars and Ketu.

From birth lagna of Cancer, the malefics Rahu and Mars are in the 5th and 7th houses. The other malefics Sun, Ketu and Saturn are in 8th, 11th and 12th houses and the benefics Moon, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are in 7th and 9th from birth lagna of Cancer. Therefore the angry planets due to people wrath are Mars and Rahu.

Thus the planets Jupiter, Saturn, Ketu, Venus, Mars and Rahu are the angry planets due to curses from Gods, Brahmins, Enemies and Public in previous life as per their placement and significations in the birth chart.

Remedial Measures

After finding the angry planets due to various causes as mentioned above, the remedial measures are to be done to those angry planets by doing concerned pujas, by giving concerned charities, by praying concerned Gods etc. For example, if Sun is the angry planet, the remedial measures may be puja to Sun, charities of wheat, ruby, praying Lord Shiva etc. Details of remedial measures are not given here since it is totally a different subject and readers are requested to refer to books and articles on remedial measures or consult a knowledgeable and reliable astrologer or priest of their faith and choice.

Conclusion

Since the sins committed in past life are carried forward to the present life, the human being suffers in the present life. One should find out those sins committed in the past life and the concerned angry planets. Suitable remedial measures are to be done to those angry planets to lessen the evil effects in this present life. Also suitable care is to be taken in this life not to do any further evil to Gods, Brahmins, Enemies and Public by Thought, Word and Deed to avoid suffering from any curse or wrath from them in the next life. Thus nullifying all the bad karma in due course by completing the good Karma also, one can attain Salvation without Rebirth. The basis for this article is from the Prasna Sastra of Kerala extending to Natal birth chart.
